Carol Voderman’s Countdown Erect Join

carol_vorderman1-300x166 Carol Vodermans Countdown Erect JoinCAROL Voderman (surely Phwaorderman? – Ed) has left her job as sum solver–in-residence on TV’s Countdown.

Now read on as the Daily Mirror’s front page screams: “HM ELLY OVRN ESCKIGA”.

Says Carol:

“After 26 years they said, ‘Take a 90 per cent PAY CUT or go!’ They wanted me out… After putting my heart and soul into the show for 26 years I was given just 48 hours to decide—take it or leave.”

Time’s up. Stop the clock.

Is it rejection?

* See Carol on daytime telly ads for financing.

  1. 1 Petronius Says:

    I still would.

  2. 2 Anorak Says:

    yould wou

  3. 3 JuneJohnson Says:

Apparently they offered her a 90% cut in salary, gosh who could refuse?

I liked Richard and his jackets….

Countdown will never be the same -vowels not withstanding, and as for consenants….

    5 15 32 44,damn my lottery numbers

  4. 4 Margaret Davis Says:

Who are these ‘bosses’ who are forcing our Carol out? No one in their right mind could accept a 90% salary cut and it was obviously a ploy to get her out, and in a very insulting way. I suppose she has upset someone who is jealous of her, the usual ‘office tactics’ . Countdown will not be the same without her and these bosses are
letting down thousands of loyal viewers as well in forcing a change. I think we should all boycott the programme if she goes. I have watched the programme since the first one went out and never missed but I for one will not watch it any more, dirty tricks like this are not in keeping with the programme and will spoil the happy family atmosphere.
    Margaret Davis (Mrs).

  5. 5 Margaret Davis Says:

wonder what Richard Whitely would have thought of the situation Carol is in, he must be turning in his grave.
This would never have been allowed to happen in his time, we didn’t know when he was taken that so would the
integrity of certain people who would then have power over the programme, whoever they are, hiding being the
    term ‘bosses’. .
Another change is the in email service, in the past we always got a reply from Michael Wylie, now there is
some automatic reply which probably means our emails are not even read let alone replied to, It has
all gone sadly downhill since Richard’s death.

  6. 6 chenier Says:

I don’t know much about the show but it certainly seems to have been very unfortunate.

Cheapskate programmes tend to look like cheapskate programmes, though the bosses no doubt hope otherwise…

  7. 7 Mr I Q Lowe Says:

I see her TV bosses at Channel 4 managed to get the exact quantity and mix of vowels and consenants to spell the words Piss Off!

    Mand A

Wot no numbers? not Piss Off 1?

  8. 8 Simon Says:

Take it off the air and bring back 15 t0 1.

    Can’t stand Countdown.

  9. 9 Paddy Says:

She is irritating and her dress sense makes my mental aunt look refined.

Have to agree with Petronius, I still would.

Though Suzie Dent is the epitome of loveliness. Once she leave I will make a point of not watching, rather than not turning over of it happens to be on.

  10. 10 kenny reid Says:

I THINK IT ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING THAT A PERSON WITH THE UNDOUBTED TALENT OF CAROL VORDERMAN SHOULD BE SO SHABBILY TREATED BY NAMELESS AND FACELESS PERSONS WHO ARE ACTING FROM THE SAFEST OF ALL POSITIONS …… ONE OF T OTAL AND PROFOUND IGNORANCE OF WHAT THE PUBLIC WISH…… NOT THAT THEY WILL LOSE ANY SLEEP OVER THIS VOID BETWEEN THEIR COLLECTIVE EARS ;IT IS NOT WISE TO TALK OF BOYCOTTING THE PROGRAMME UNTIL THESE ICONOCLASTS COME TO THEIR SENSES , FOR THE MOST VALID REASON THAT, THEY HAVE NO SENSES TO WHICH TO COME ,AS AMPLY DISPLAYED BY THE RATHER TAWDRY AND TOTALLY SENSELESS CONDITIONS OF CONTINUANCE OF SERVICEU LAID BEFORE A HIGHLY RESPECTED WORKER; ; PERHAPS A MARCH ON KIRKSTALL RD. WOULD BE MORE PRODUCTIVE ; SHED NO TEARS FOR OUR CAROL ; SHE IS A SURVIVOR AND IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME SHE WILL PROVE ME TO BE CORRECT ; CAROL CAN DO NICELY WITHOUT COUNTDOWN , BUT , CAN COUNTDOWN DO WITHOUT CAROL K.R.

  11. 11 annie1 Says:

If she had a bit more dress sense and acted her age and not her shoe size, then maybe she would have been taken a little more seriously. She caccles and produces the most false “laughs” in the background, looks a complete bimbo - countdown, regardless of her years of service - now deserves better - in my opinion. Countdown has outgrown her, and most kids and oaps these days can calculated the numbers game equally as well as old Carol. she is not, unfortunately for her, an institution - showing her true colours by appearing on adverts for financial institutions does not bode well with the die hard countdown supporters - let her go and lets get someone who has a bit of style in her place - any suggestions??

  12. 12 annie1 Says:

Here’s one suggestion - Carol Thatcher - only need to change the surname on the credits!!!

  13. 13 annie1 Says:

margaret davies - 90 per cent of how much though??? You need to realise that the advertisements pay a huge part of the wages of the commecial tv presenters, and the internet has taken over. The amount of TV advertising is falling, obviously, as everyone finds cheaper ways to promote their businesses. Goood ooolllddd stenna stair lift - they’ll keep em going!! Oh and of course jolly old Carol encouraging her elderly audience to sell up their homes to get capital release - Oh right on Carol, tell it to your own mother!!

  14. 14 Terry Carty Says:

I’ll take the job for 10% of her salary!!!!!!!! Actually I used to work with her brother Anton who was a technical author at ICL in Northwich so I actually met her while she was still a refrigeration engineer. All I can remember is a nice but rather plain and mousy young woman who’s appearance bore absolutely no relation to the person I see on countdown. For a start where did the cheekbones come from!! Funny life isn’t it. She didn’t want to go for the interview for countdown and had to be practically dragged there by her mother. I wonder if she hadn’t gone would she be still be an obscure refrigeration engineer.

  15. 15 Emma Says:

Her original salary was £800,000, I would happily do her job for 10% of that, £80k is not a figure to be turned down for most people, I am not sure what the average national wage is, but I do know £80k is a lot lot higher. Plus if you take into account money from all her other projects (detox books etc..) . Annie1 you are completely right, companies who make there money from advertising need to cut back in times of economic downturn, I’d prefer they got rid of Carol and countdown than a good programme.

  16. 16 Paul Jameson Says:

I thought that in an age when most women are doing their utmost to look butch and manly, it was refreshing to see Carol wearing pretty feminine dresses. Having said that, Carol could be easily replaced by a pretty girl and a computer. We do live in the year 2008 !

  17. 17 Susan Says:

Can’t say I’ll miss her. She thinks she runs the show. I agree with a previous comment about her false cackling in the background. The constant looking at screens whilst putting up the numbers to see what her bum looks like in whatever she’s wearing drives me daft. Its HUGE Carol, the same as it was yesterday, n the day before that n the day before that……………… I,m afraid I found her extremely irritating. Don’t know what she did to deserve the amount of money she was being paid anyway
