Madeleine McCann: Eamoon Holmes Empathises, Police Files Go Public And Maddie Wristbands On eBay
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann…
BRACE yourselves for lots of Madeleine McCann shocker headlines. Portuguese police might have shelved the case, but the thousands of pages of evidence assembled in the official search for the missing child are expected to be made public at 2pm today.
Hacks will today be able to look through thousands of pages of witness statements, transcripts of interviews with the McCanns, tip offs and details of the lines of inquiry detectives pursued.
Kate McCann and her husband Gerry have been officially cleared of any involvement in their daughter’s disappearance.
BELFAST TELEGRAPH: “Holmes ‘robbed of £10,000′ while on Algarve holiday”
Those dirty foreign basta…
Ulster-born telly star Eamonn Holmes has had thousands of pounds stolen in a burglary in Portugal — and he has slammed the local police investigation.
Eamonn was playing golf at the time. Chilling, indeed. Is he ok, or has he taken a knock to the head? Says Eamonn:
“Like Kate and Gerry McCann, I’ve had dealings with the Portuguese police. But unlike Kate and Gerry, I was only trying to report a burglary — not the theft of my child.
“One of the things obvious to anyone dealing with the police on the Algarve is the sorry fact that no matter what you have lost, there simply isn’t enough of them to begin tracking it down.
“That may be one of the worst twists of fate in what happened to Madeleine — that tragically, she went missing in the wrong place.”
If only they’d been playing golf…
THE SUN: “Kate ‘fell silent’ in police quiz”
KATE McCann refused to answer 48 questions when probed by Portuguese cops over her missing daughter Madeleine, it was revealed yesterday.
Kate McCann was interviewed by Portuguese police on September 7 2007.
Cops also asked whether she gave the children medication and if it was true that she sometimes despaired of their behaviour and had considered handing custody of Maddie to a relative.
Why should the Sun mention this one question from 48?
Says McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell: “Kate was well within her rights not to answer if she didn’t want to.”
Indeed. And since when has a police question necessitated a base in fact? Do you know what speed you answer going sir? Hello, hello, hello, what have we here, then? Why don’t you just tell the truth and it will all be over?
DAILY MAIL: “Madeleine dossier will finally be made public after Portuguese secrecy laws are lifted”
The contents of the Madeleine McCann case files will be unlocked today, ending 15 months of leaks, smears and innuendo. (See above.)
The couple have several teams of detectives on standby ready to travel across the world to check any potential leads.
Ready, steady…
Demand to see the case file has been so great that court officials have scanned the pages into a computer and compiled them on DVDs.
And handed them to the HMCR for safe keeping…

I really should learn my lesson & not get involved as I end up suffering! But I cannot stand injustness (is that a word?)
A level playing would be lovely. Same rules for all.
I also noticed your question mark (‘I am not permitted to say I am quoting from today’s Guardian?’) which made it a question rather than a statement.

My apologies; I omitted the word ‘why’ at the beginning of Maria’s sentence.

Thank you! Yes, I’ve seen the new thread and gone there.
Just chatting with Artemis who is being very patient with me. I’ll probably end up blushing again as I did yesterday!

No, I knew it had not actually been blocked but, when Totje said to jo that her (jo’s) rude post to me was uncalled for and childish :

whichever M and A was on duty told Totje that jo had been quite right to tell me to post a link. This is going to sound incredibly childish, but, first jo should not have written her post quite as she did (though, admittedly, not as rude as usual!) and it wasn’t her place to tell me anyway….unless she is a moderator? Not a word was said to her about this. Secondly, she did exactly the same thing herself and no comment was made about there being no link given NOR about the fact that she was posting contentious stuff that hadn’t even been officially released.
PLEASE don’t waste more time on this…..not worth it! Other people noticed the “unfairness” anyway. It’s just that, as people said, it sometimes seems like one rule for ganders and another for geese like me!
Still…it does NOT matter a jot really……just that this worm was turning for a moment!! If i don’t like it, I know exactly what to do! (Getting my birds and worms all mixed up here. Mixed metaphors!)

Maria, you stated in your post that
‘I am not permitted to say I am quoting from today’s Guardian?’
It is difficult to construe that as meaning anything other than that you had not been permitted to say that you were quoting from today’s Guardian.
Naturally, I investigated the matter, only to discover that your post was indeed sitting there for all to read.
As you have acknowledged this is a very busy day for us all, and it is disappointing that a poster of your experience should make this misleading claim.

Thank you very much. I realise you are very busy this afternoon and that there is now a new thread. Sorry! No prob and no hurry.
Even the worm turns in the end, though!

Maria, if you look back you will see that I have pointed out that your post at 10.16 am today was not blocked, and is there for anyone to read.
Was there a particular reason why you thought it had been blocked?

Maria
There’s a new thread. Perhaps post there…..
August 4th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
….and, of course, I don’t think I’ve ever quoted from a blog, for obvious reasons, or given links to insulting stuff on youtube, or whatever.
I quote from mainline media sources and always give the date and use speech marks. I would still be perfectly happy to give the link, provided everyone was expected to do the same.
Goodbye my friends, most likely!

Question
Q455
Is there a legal age for a babysitter?
Answer
No there is no legal age for babysitting. It is the responsibility of the parents using common sense to make the decision. It is worth bearing in mind though that a child under 16 years old cannot be prosecuted for neglect or ill treatment of children in their care. The parents/carers/guardians would be charged in that situation. However, any person who is 16 or over and who has responsibility for a person under that age could be prosecuted.

Also from the IHT:
‘Portugal’s attorney general last month ordered police to halt their 14-month investigation because detectives had uncovered no evidence of a crime.’
I’m still wondering whether the Rapture constitutes an offence under the Portuguese penal code…

I’m surprised that the TV news channels haven’t shown a clip of all the reporters queueing up for their bounty in portamao. Is it a huge queue?

Good. Don’t let him get away with it.
I don’t know why a retailer would bother with a scam like that - he’d make more money encouraging customer loyalty. The fool.

According to the International Herald Tribune,
‘A court clerk in the southern Portuguese town of Portimao, near where the child vanished last year in the Algarve region, said the file would be available to journalists who file a written request and appear in person at the court.
Officials would then copy the file onto DVDs, which journalists would have to provide, the clerk said on condition of anonymity in line with department rules.
She said the file is divided into 17 volumes and comprises close to 30,000 pages.’
Any advance on 30,000 pages, anyone?

Gotta admit, my son added a few extra swearwords to his vocabulary yesterday
By the time I’ve finished with this bastard, he’s going to wish he never saw my lotto ticket. We’re laying a charge of theft against him, which will waste his time, I’m writing to the local paper asking them to do an article to enquire if he’s caught anyone else in this way .. which will lose him business, and then I’m laying a complaint against his outlet at the Lotto organisation, which may lose him his Lotto licence
All in all, it will be well worth the R583 he stole from me.
