Banging Tunes: Gangsta Rap Drives Tabloid Hack To Kill
DOTUN Adebayo tells Sun readers:
“After 12 hours of gangsta rap I could have knifed someone.”
The Sun hack goes native and helps to break the Broken Britain his paper writes of?
BACK in the Sixties Diana Ross and The Supremes asked: “Where did our love go?” Last Sunday I struggled to find it after subjecting myself to a diet of nothing but UK grime music for 12 hours solid. It was half a day of the most violent lyrics — written by black men about the pain they wanted to inflict on other black men. After listening to this hybrid of hip-hop and garage music, I wanted to kill someone.
Anyone in particular?
I wouldn’t, of course, because I don’t have a violent nature.
Phew! But what if he did. What then?
But if I was an aggressive man the first person to step on my foot would probably have got shanked — knifed — as is happening on the streets.
Anorak is on it. We have sat five subjects in a room for 12 hours and made them listen to various strains of music. Our findings are thus:
Subject - Music - Artist - Kill Tally
A: Pop - Cliff Richard - 19
B: Classical - Paul Potts - 27
C: Folk - James Galway - 453
D: Walt Salzburg Male Boys Choice- 34,980
E: Skiffle - The Spinners - 0
The Spinners will be played over a public address system at Anorak Towers at all times.
Ends.

What is this forum about, talking about issues or just talking breeze
let me address the issue.
You see back in the day there was an some sort of BALANCE in the media, what do i mean by this. Back in the day radio stations club dj’s used to play NWA along side tribe call quest.
I even remember the flack that NWA got when they came out for their lyrical content, from songs like
fuck the police
edit
which they defended the so called ” negative reviews” by stating that they are only talking about what they know… Fair enough and i agree. but on the other hand they had a positive side with songs like
express yourself click link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAmPhbpK6y8
you see BALANCE is the key !!!!!
right lets take it to the present day……
Today we are living among negativity in our every day lives from the were we live, what we see on tv, games we play as well as what we hear on the radio, war, crime to name a few
you heard the term sex sells, well the same goes for violence. dont get it twisted i been in the hip hop, rap, grime game since day one but let me tell you this…..
Record lables, radio stations know dat violence sells in the same way it sells in the film industry so all they care about is making units, fair enough its a business. but i have been in meetings with labels with my boy who was signed to a major who had just out prison totally reformed and wanted change his music to address his positive side. The label did not want to know, they just wanted to hear his negative side.
right back to grime ting yo i love grime, i love the music, i love the flows and i like the lyrics, but please when you say
there are elements for whom grime is negative reinforcement.
there is to much of that, or shall i say radio stations weather legal, pirate or online as well as TV and record labels push the type of grime with a lot of negativity. whether it is to sell units or to destroy something created from the street ( Dont get me started on the decline UK Garage )
and despite what you say music is a big influence to young minds along side other things the youth are exposed to in their life
So if you are in the game, just to make the papers and trust me talk about negativety and i m sure in time you will get signed. but also take responsiblity. However if you are a more than making paper talk about the poistive in your lyrics as well negative to let people know there are always two sides of a coin
I do not see a balance, knowing there are positive grime uk music out there. MAINTAIN THE BALANCE!!!!!!
I want to see and hear TRIBE CALLED QUEST/ DE LA SOUL grime being played along side the grime as we know.
It is in our hands to do what NWA did maintain a balance. So yeah Dotun raised a point purely because all he hears and see’s in the mainstream is just the negative side cause thats all they are promoting.
THATS THE PROBLEM
so i ask you this lets talk about the real issues and not crap you are posting on this forum
and i ask u and peeps in the forum to address that situation im all about BALANCE and if you think there is a BALANCE in our music fair enough, but if not lets join forces and let people know that grime is not all about negativity
M&A
Artemis
Please note that we can allow only one link per post, so I’ve left in the cheerful one. It’s all about balance.

I reckon you should! It makes the brain question itself and makes people more focussed.
I mean - even more focussed on what you have to say. And one says it so well.
Especially for one such as myself wot doesn’t know much about anything and can’t think for myself.

Making Money is just a padded out natural progression of Going Postal, maybe I was just expecting too much. There are some laugh out loud moments though.

Most cats feel that an entire library should be devoted to them…

Bugger! Was just about to start ‘Making Money’… you reckon it’s not up to much?

Spooky, I have just started the said Tome, at the moment Cohen the Barbarian has just appeared on the scene. However it is the first time round for me. Unhappily I was very disappointed with Making Money, but Tiddles the cat should have a book of it’s own.

Strangely enough, have been rereading the very same thing. Interspersed with edited highlights of the world’s greatest mathematician, you bastard…

Hmmphh,
I am compiling a rough guide to the less salubrious watering holes of Scandinavia, that is to say trying to get a drink for the price of just under a small mortgage. If we are indeed living in Interesting Times, then this must be the Soul Music thread.

I can do a fulsome ‘we love you just the way you are’, if that would help.
Saul appears to have knocked off for the day and is probably hanging around some waterfront somewhere, practising his Marlon Brando impersonation.
At least, that’s what he says he’s doing when he’s hanging around the waterfront…

Note the fascinating evocation of the yodel with that deft flick of the keys.
Must be this working from home bit…
