Madeleine McCann: Daily Mirror Flies Anna Stam To London

MADELEINE McCann: An Anorak reader sends news of tomorrow’s tabloid sensation, translated from the Dutch.

What good can come of Anna Stam - Maddie spotter; one of many - meeting with Kate McCann, a meeting arranged by a tabloid paper?

The story:

Anna zag Maddie, ontmoet McCanns
ANNA SAW MADDIE, MEETS MCCANNS

Last night Anna Stam of Amsterdam has flown to London for a meeting with the parents of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared last year.

Costs being met by the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, she will tell them that she “maybe” has seen Maddie.

Last year May, Stam, assistant in a party goods shop in Amsterdam-East, was addressed by a British girl of approx. 4 years old.

”Of ik wist waar haar mummy was,” zegt Stam.

“She wanted to know if I knew where her Mommy was,” says Stam.

When she pointed to the women with whom she had entered, the girl shook her head.

“That’s not my mother”, she said, “that’s a stranger.”

According to Stam the girl said that the woman had taken her away from her mother on holidays, but couldn’t say where.

Stam: “Then I asked what her name was. At first I thought she saod Maggie, but she corrected me: ”My name is Maddie”.”

At the time the news about the abduction of Madeleine MxCann from an apartment building in Portugal hadn’t reached the Netherlands yet.

When a week later Stam saw a photo of the girl on television, she reported to the police.

Stam: “If it really was Maddie, I don’t know for sure.

But hopefully it helps the parent and they keep hope that she will still be found one day.

Gerry said “I have no doubt we will be able to sustain a high profile for Madeleines disappearance in the long term.” (June 28, 2007)

Oh well, be careful what you wish for.
From tragedy to farce, with the help of the British tabloids. No doubt whilst she is here she will also give interviews to ITV and Sky.

  8. 8 chenier Says:

So what do the Dutch police think about this?

Will the Mirror be providing us with insightful commentary on those stupid Dutch plods who failed to follow up on Anna’s vision?

Or will it be yet another contribution to Xenophobia Inc. which has made so much money on the back of this story?

What will Parsons’ confide to us on the wonders of the British plod?

    We should be trolled!

  9. 9 Julie Says:

I thought they were going to leave no stone unturned … now the people who’ve “seen” “Maddie” have to come to them ….

And what did this fine upstanding citizen do on discovering a girl named Maddie who said she had been taken from her family by strangers??

Oh she told her she was cute and offered her a balloon.

According to the Daily Wail yesterday - she didnot report this to the police until the 2nd week in June. sigh…

Yes, if the Dutch police can’t be trusted, and the Portuguese Police cant’ be trusted, we’ll just have to bus the witnesses into dear old trustworthy blighty to be interrogated by the private investigators - employers of drug dealers and other criminals………………….

    You couldn’t make it up!

    Bollox!. You just did!

  20. 20 chenier Says:

Julie, I fear you are being a little naive here.

Have you seen anything that leads you to believe that the disgraceful behaviour of the Dutch police in failing to find Madeleine should not be exposed in all its ineptitude?

Surely, slagging people off is the entire raison d’etre of the exercise.

Wonder how long it will take the Daily Wail and the Express to steal Paul’s scoop?

  21. 21 Garth Says:

Is this just an anti-British site? I’m beginning to wonder.

  22. 22 Julie Says:

The Daily Mirror is clever … importing Anna Stam to tell HER story (well considering K probably has no interest in meeting her anyway because … ok forget that point).

BUT The Daily Mirror’s sales are just going to shoot sky-high when Anna Stam’s story is on THEIR front page!! Clever …. clever ….

  23. 23 coolandcalm Says:

Chenier… re: free wine on the previous thread……….. after the end of the paid-for holiday the McCanns stayed on at MW for free with all accomodation / food etc paid for. Totally different from when they were on their actual holiday. (up to the saturday)

The mark Warner holiday they were on did not provide alcohol. They could also eat in any restaurant as part of the deal.

  24. 24 Garth Says:

Chenier’s not still going on about the bleedin wine?

NO, actually if you peep at the name on the post just above yours …. it wasn’t Chenier who imported the subject from the other thread. DO KEEP UP GARTHY!!

  29. 29 just so Says:

What a terrible shame that the little girl didn’t say what her second name was and then we would have known for sure. Wouldn’t we?

Still, it was good of the adults to give her a sporting chance of telling Stam about herself.

The man also gave a good hint by making sure that Stam knew he was speaking Portuguese.

Maybe they lied about the circus, though. Don’t you think?
