CCTV images of the blonde blue-eyed youngster, seen just seven days ago at a Brussels bank, are now being studied. Last night Belgian police said the case had been given top priority and was being passed to a magistrate who would launch a full inquiry.
That’s right - the Express has reverted to calling the missing child Madeleine. It flirted with Maddie, but Madeleine it is, and ever will be…
The little girl, who looked “much like” Madeleine, was spotted by a security guard at the Havenlaan branch of the KBC Bank in the district of Molenbeek St Jean.
It’s Madeleine. It has to be:
The guard – stationed outside the bank’s main entrance – was so shocked he considered following the pair but decided not to leave his post, a police source has revealed.
Nor did he call out her name, nor question the woman, nor whip out a camera phone and take a picture…
A police source added: “He is convinced he saw Madeleine but obviously it needs checking out carefully.”

The Sun has a grainy picture of a blonde child and a woman walking hand-in-hand. It’s “CCTV of little girl being led up street.” And a question: “IS IT HER?”
A LITTLE girl who cops suspect could be Madeleine McCann asked a woman she was seen walking with, “Can we go back now?” it emerged last night. The poignant plea in English was overheard by a bank security guard in Brussels, Belgium — and he is convinced the kiddie was missing Maddie.
Tells us more:
The dark-skinned woman, wearing a hijab headdress, spoke in a different language, possibly broken French. Police interviewed the guard, who speaks fluent Flemish, Dutch and English, on Thursday.
But not French. He doesn’t speak French…

How many months?
A suspected abductor was spotted spying on Madeleine McCann’s flat before she vanished - but Portuguese police ignored the tip-off, it emerged yesterday.
How many months ago?
British babysitter Margaret Hall was caring for a girl aged six in the same apartment when she saw the prowler lurking in the dark and peering inside. A statement and his description were passed to officers - who dismissed it as irrelevant, their files on the bungled probe reveal.
What happened?
Margaret had reported her autumn 2006 sighting to Metodo 3 in November 2007 and they informed police.
Let’s recap: Months before Madeleine went missing a nanny says she saw a man looking through a window. And she told not the police, rather seh told a private detective agency. Just shows you how much better the agency is than the police – and how much its worth its fee – doesn’t it?
Metodo 3… What do we know about the detectives?
Spanish private investigators, based in Barcelona, are said to be being paid £50,000 a day to hunt for Madeleine. Since taking on the case it has received 16,000 calls from potential witnesses.
How many tip-offs Metodo 3 passed on to the police, the Mirror does not care to say. How many of these tip-offs the Portuguese police investigated, the Mirror does not care to say.
Such are the facts.

Police failed to investigate a previous suspected abduction attempt from Kate and Gerry McCann’s holiday apartment, it was disclosed yesterday.
Or a suspected burglary. Or a suspected break in. Or a suspected rape/ mugging/ window cleaning/ voyeurism and many more…
Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said their detectives were working on all the missed clues in the police files. He said: ‘Kate and Gerry hoped from the outset that the police were following up every lead in the most thorough and professional manner possible. Where any information is found not to have been followed up, our investigators are working on it, all of it.’
All of it. And what of any information Metodo 3 did not follow up, will that be reviewed once more?

It is within the realms of possibility that she was taken out of the country and is being held somewhere by an organised paedo ring but this is statistically the least likely scenario.
When Holly and Jessica went missing the British police did not set up road blocks or close all the ports lest they were going to be spirited abroad - they had been murdered by a local man known to them within the village and dumped a fairly short drive away that same evening. Why do the media ignore the statistics in favour of the most far fetched theories?

I don’t agree with what a lot of posters say but I don’t think anyone should be subjected to such abusive insults.
But that’s just my opinion.
Over the weekend 2 mods (Duncan & you I believe) said how pleasant it was without certain posters. I agree, even though I think you were refering to others.

So, why shouldn’t a reported sighting (with images to back it up) be investigated? What if this is real and it is Maddie? Why not find out if it is her or not and put an end to the speculation? What if this could then bring a close to the case for the PJ?
Most of the posters (not all, but most) believe she is dead, but there is always the possibility that your views are incorrect. That she is alive somewhere … wouldn’t you be happy if that was the case? … Or is the hatred some posters have for the McCanns so blinding that nothing else can be considered as a possibility except the worst?
So far, the PJ could not make a case against the McCanns, therefore the case is still “on hold” = “unresolved”. IMO new reported sightings, whether they turn out to be erroneous or not, MUST be investigated. A child’s welfare COULD be at stake and an unresolved case COULD be solved.
If this report would have been made say 15 months ago, we would all be jumping with hope that this could be her. Why not have the same attitude now? It could be her … until proven otherwise … it COULD be her.

Daisy, I agree with you totally. People prefer to overlook those young people who have been taken and found years later. Over in Europe itself, the other year that young woman who was found after 10 or more years who had been taken and held captive all those years; however, I do forget which country but it made all your news. Another horrible case is the daughter who was held captive all these years as her father’s sex slave, so to speak, and bore his children. Over here, the other year we had a young boy found at age 16, who had been kidnapped by a paedophile and held captive for 4 years, and was allowed outside of that man’s apartment, and he was found because the police got a lead and was checking on another young boy who had been kidnapped and found him and that other missing boy at the same time in the apartment. Other cases also over the years. Rare - yes. But it happens they are found.
The paedolphile who had gone into a home and killed the mother, her boy friend and another siblings, kidnapped a young boy and his young sister. In two weeks time he had killed the young boy BUT he kept the 8 year old alive. Six weeks later, he walked into a store in a small town with her one morning, the waitress recognized her from a poster that had been distributed all over the states, and called the police.

Could the man “looking for a little girl to abduct” have been a fellow holiday maker a little the worse for wear and confused about which apartment he was staying in - I once walked into the wrong caravan at a holiday park - its easy done.
If he was up to no good then might he have been a thief or a peeping tom? How do we know he had child abduction(comparatively rare) in mind?
What should have been done by the police? FIND THIS GUY NOW - it may be the key!

In this recent outbreak of silly sightings gone mad I am having trouble keeping up - a British man definately spotted her in the Caribbean but took no immediate action although he was sure - a Dutch shopkeeper spoke to her in a fancy dress shop(maybe they were in there to purchase a blue wig to hide that tell tale blonde hair) - was it a bank? was it a plane? If this is what “sane and reasonable” people find plausible then I am totally bonkers!

He said they would not necessarily make any move public, if they did find their daughter, until they had brought her home.

”Kate and Gerry are relieved the arguido status was lifted recently and are pleased their lawyers now have full access to the files. They are waiting to hear from the lawyers who are going through it meticulously and translating it.”
Belgian police said they had received more than 100 reports of possible sightings and about 30 merited investigation.
Meanwhile, national newspapers have reported that Portuguese police failed to investigate a previous suspected abduction bid from the McCanns’ holiday apartment - eight months before Madeleine went missing.

I’m amazed that the Irish Mr.Smith and his wife, both who positively ID’d Gerry carrying Madeleine that night, have not been heard of?
It is the only eye witness account that has an actual name attatched to it. Why is this not followed up?
Who was Gerry’s alibi? Someone independant? I seem to remember the staff had not much of a clue who was where?
The other thing is the dog evidence. Why is it being trashed?
In the old days if the press was muzzled no one was any the wiser and I’m sure things would have happened rather differently then. These days the press can still be manipulated it seems but big brother is struggling to be able to control the internet which is a good portal to challenge the views of their press.
It’s becoming like a contest ‘Press V Internet blogs’.

I knew a chap once who had an eye like Madeleine’s and he had poor sight out of it. If Maddie had been abducted, another though would be that the eye would be fixed up, or a contact lens worn.
