Robinho’s Dream: To Win The Cash With Chelsea

robinho_ Robinhos Dream: To Win The Cash With ChelseaROBINHO, one of the myriad Brazilian attacking footballers whose names being in a “R”, has been the object of transfer speculation between Real Madrid (ten times winners of the European Cup) and Chelsea (identity under offer).

And the Sun headline: “Madrid have killed the dream.”

That’s right. Robinho’s dream was to play for Chelsea. Really.

When another South American called Osvaldo Ardiles had a dream we were invited to appreciate its comic charms, with little Ossie popping up to tell us how his dream was to win the “Kupp forr Totting-ham”.
We knew that Ossie didn’t grow up in Argentina kicking a ball in his replica Bobby Smith shirt, greasing his hair into a Cyril Knowles up and over and prising the “Yiddos” in his local cathedral.

Now we get Robinho’s representative Wagner Ribeiro telling us with a straight face: “The dream of Chelsea is broken because Real Madrid will not even negotiate. It is impossible to advance any conversation. Next summer we will sort out the situation if people can show some sense.”

What the dream is we can guess at, and it starts with “m” and ends in “oney”.

Nobody dreams of playing for Chelsea, besides sons of men who work on flower stalls, lawn mower enthusiasts and the born again Christian butcher in Spittlefields market.

Oh, and Robinho, born in the footballing backwater of Sao Paulo, playing for little known Santos FC and starting for sporting minnows Brazil…

IMO…………. In the days of the late sixties, early seventies I would say plenty of people dreamed of playing for Chelsea. What a charismatic side they had then. They were very exciting with many talented players, not only skillful individually but they were awesome as a team too. Not much different to todays Chelsea. But the image the latterday Chelsea players project is one of aloofness, smugness and they seem to have little rapport with fans. Compare that to Harris, Cooke, Osgood, Hudson, I could go on. They were real players motivated by nothing other than trying to entertain supporters while striving to win trophies. Many stories abound about stars of those days who were not averse to chatting to fans in their local pub over a pint or throwing out a tip in the bookies. Don’t happen no more though. Money has changed times.
I think that the club most players would dream of playing for is Arsenal these days. They play attractive football, with the players generally mixing with public where they can, which is encourged by the board. A cool stadium and great manager. Which is funny as they are one of the few top European clubs that have a salary cap. But Chelsea these days is all about money. But I for one will not answer Abramoviches texts.
