Madeleine McCann: When The Sniffer Dogs Barked And Casey Anthony

dog-maddie-car-300x176 Madeleine McCann: When The Sniffer Dogs Barked And Casey AnthonyMADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann

THE SUN (front page): “BARKING – The moment Maddie cops say dog made McCanns ‘suspects’

No, not the tabloid dog pack. There’s a picture of a spaniel crawling on a sofa. To its rear is a man. There is a pair of blue drapes, open.

And another picture of a dog, which may be same dog. The caption:

Howl … pooch alerts handler to ‘evidence’ found in the parents’ rented motor

Pages 4 and 5: “HOUNDING OF THE McCANNS”

THESE were the scenes as two police sniffer dogs investigated the disappearance of little Madeleine McCann — and left her shell-shocked parents wrongly in the frame.

You can never trust a dog, much less a Portuguese dog

The 2½-hour film, shot on a police camcorder, chronicles the work of two specially-trained British sniffer dogs.

It was the British all along, friendly fire, blue on blue disaster…

It details the moments when the springer spaniels apparently detected:

Barking … the moment Maddie cops say dog made McCanns ’suspects’

The scent of a dead body in the McCanns’ rented Renault Scenic, hired 25 days after Maddie vanished shortly before her fourth birthday in May 2007

An aroma of blood in a bedroom cupboard in the family’s Praia da Luz holiday apartment, and

A smell of death on Kate’s clothes.

Good of the Sun to repeat all the apparent speculation again. And tell us that – hold that apology to the Portuguese, the dog handler was one of them, a Portuguese…

Eddie is first to be taken into the two-bed apartment and spends nearly 30 minutes sniffing around. He barks twice — once in a bedroom and once at a spot behind a sofa underneath a living room window.

Woof! Woof!

Martin says: “As soon as I came in the dog is very excited. From his body language it would appear he has picked up a scent that he recognises. There is enough scent there for him to give me a bark indication.

Woof!

After Eddie leaves the apartment, Martin takes in Keela. She can be seen freezing — a sign she has found something — underneath the window where Eddie had earlier barked.

And..?

Martin says on camera: “The crime scene dog has given me a positive indication. That indicates to me there is some human blood there. She will detect blood that is very old and find anybody’s blood.”

Not a blood hound – a spaniel

While Portuguese cops carried out DNA tests on “fluids” found in the flat, it has never been revealed if any blood was found.

And the British at the forensic lab in Birmingham, don’t forget them…

Detectives also asked Martin to use his dogs on the McCanns’ hire car.

Oh, yes, the Renault Scenic

Eddie is seen barking at the driver’s door before standing still in the boot, then scrabbling in one corner. Martin says: “We had a reaction from the dog. The scent is coming out of the sealed door.”

RINGSIDE REPORT (US): “More Charges For Caylee’s mom”

An online boxing magazine delivers the news with punch. Ding! Ding!

Every time a child disappears, it must be taken seriously. For months, we have been awaiting for good news of British girl Madeleine McCann, the four year old princess who disappeared in Portugal. Now, it turns out, the United States has an even worse case at hand, that of Caylee Anthony, a 3 year old angel who mysteriously disappeared from Florida and whom police investigations point out to be a likely murder victim.

Seconds out!

Number one, if Casey Anthony is involved in her daughter’s disappearance, all she deserves is 12 rounds with Lennox Lewis, after having people completely tie her up to a corner. Number two, we are all praying at RSR so that the first thing the grandmother said becomes a reality, and Caylee is found alive, as well as Madeleine McCann.

Lennox beats up women, Lennox beats up women, la-la-la-la…

  3. 3 brandon flours Says:

So the videos not coming out today?

Is it just the beginning of a week of discrediting them ?

  4. 4 PeterMac Says:

I wonder if Clarrie will be brought out of his early retirement to try to discredit the dogs’ evidence. Or if they will all try to keep their heads down until this round of hysteria has blown over.

Kate rubbed herself on deceased molton melbry residents prior to her holiday.

If Madeleine was targeted - then it is probable that she was being watched.

Requests for photos were made, but what seemed very odd to me was that the McCanns refused to explain where they were with or without Madeleine earlier on in the day (in case anyone queries my source - KMcC herself said that it was not helpful to say what they were doing earlier on in the day).

    Why not?

If - for example - they had been at the beach, and I was a holiday maker in PdL at the same time, I might have been able to say that I saw someone suspicious lurking around.

The secrecy and total refusal to account for their movements earlier in the day have always seemed a little strange to me. And - before people say, they had lunch etc. etc. - I am talking about earlier in the day. KMcC clearly said she would not comment. Why not if it would have helped jog someone’s memory ?
    ———————–

    Quite simply to answer really.

She believed that they were looking for evidence to incriminate her and not interested in what actually happened in that apartment that night.

  7. 7 PeterMac Says:

Ah, yes. Sorry. I totally forgot. All that rotting meat and the nappies stored in the boot, and the failure of KM to change her clothes for the last 2 weeks in her part time GP role, dealing with corpses, and then wearing the same clothes for the whole week on holiday.
    Silly me.
Why had I dismissed these so obvious “facts”

I very much doubt Clarrie will mate.

He will leave the hysteria to the few who gloat over it.

Dogs dont lie cause they cant talk. But they can be mistaken!!

For an ex copper mate, you are totally blind!

  10. 10 liza Says:

Garth - but surely it would have been wiser to instead collaborate, precisely to demonstrate innocence? Remember that the McC’s had really powerful backers, so I really can’t imagine they were afraid of being framed or anything.

Plus, would you put your self -interest before that of your abducted child?

    Ciao Garth!

Im not saying she had her rational head on.

But I think she may have been trying to hint that the investigators needed to look into what happened in the evening when the crime was committed.

  14. 14 brandon flours Says:

“Gerry and Kate are not interested in dwelling on mistakes that were made. They and their investigation team wish to focus entirely on finding Maddie.”

  15. 15 liza Says:

Garth, honestly, this is exactly the problem - they had a gazillion advisers, they appeared to be cool enough to plan their campaign, plan tv appearances, etc etc, and did not have the sense to realize that K’s not replying to questions etc would not make thinkgs worse and most of all, believing as she did that the police were not focusing on maddie but on her, wouldn’t just giving plain and honest answers (even if by doing so she/they might have had to admit to possibly not checking on the kids much or to sedating them) and eliminate any need for the police to keep on focusing on her?

And I can imagine that the days after the fact must have been horrendous, but she could have offered to speak with the police at any time - maybe even by TC or something.

    Ciao Garth

  16. 16 Garth Says:

    BF

I have worked in a prison and seen a demonstration by dogs who detect drugs.

Four people from and audience were chosen for the demonstration.

The fifth person had drugs on him.

On one person in particular (and to his embarrassment) had every dog stick their nose in his crutch and a little excitedly. One dog was very excited.

It turned out this person had peppermint sweets in his pocket.

In this case the officers were able to identify the sweets as not being drugs.

But did the dogs lie or were they mistaken?

  17. 17 brandon flours Says:

yeah but I bet he had a joint before going to work ;-)

  18. 18 brandon flours Says:

The only mistake could be that the cadaver wasnt madeleines.
So you think they would do all in their power to find out whose it was, but they dont.

    I wonder why ?

  19. 19 SteveT Says:

    Garth,

You have convinced me how stupid dogs are!

  20. 20 SteveT Says:

    Garth,

Did you work on mail bags in prison?

  21. 21 Garth Says:

    liza

We are going to have to agree to disagree.

She knew that trying to investigate her activities earlier in the day were not aimed at finding an abductor.

Apart from being angry and i think she must have felt very frustrated with the police. And this was an indication to her frustration with them imo.

  22. 22 Garth Says:

    Steve T

I am just making the point re ‘dogs dont lie’.

    Obviously you are missing it.

  23. 23 liza Says:

Garth but sure, that’s no problem - agreeing to disagree - but that’s also one of the main point of meeting here, internet is fantastic because you can really debate and talk about things, and there’s no better way to develop one’s mental skill than debating with someone whose views differ from your own.

Re dogs - I’d say that cadavar dogs receive a different training from drug dogs, so I don’t know whether that example may go to disprove the capability of cadaver/blood dogs

Something similar happened to someone we know at an airport in Italy, only he had a sandwich somewhere… quite embarassing…..

  24. 24 Tracy Knysna, SA Says:

The video is out on the Mccannfiles :)

  25. 25 Garth Says:

    liza

All dogs surely must be trained purely on scent.

It must be remembered that they can only ‘indicate’ .

It is then up to us to prove or disprove whether the indication has innocent explanations.

In the case of cadaver there appear to be many explanatory factors which question the reliability of what we are actually looking for.

  26. 26 liza Says:

Yes Garth but not being a dog I don’t know the difference between the scent of drugs/blood etc.

allow me an excursus - I’m not a dog person myself (I prefer cats) but I’m always impressed when I see police dogs in airports, they’re so - how can I say? professional looking! Once I don’t remember where in the States there was an incredibly cute beagle sniffing at our legs and luggage, he was sooo cute!

Garth I would love to ask you whether you are quite confident the McC’s are not hiding anything (checking timelines, or sedation etc)….

  27. 27 Rasputin Says:

Poor old clueless will be turbot charging, evidence ? who let the dogs out, the dogs testimony my Lord consists of woof! woof! and sniff sniff, complete and compelling the you know who’s are as guilty as, well perhaps not we will have to ask the FSS. We did ? how remiss of me my Lord, I don’t remember that, what did they say must have been definite guilty opinion what! Oh well can’t we get them on parking tickets or something else, that Portuguese AG keeps saying no evidence, what can he possibly know that we don’t, woof! woof!

  28. 28 Garth Says:

And to think they were made arguidos based on the sniffer dogs. Unbelievable.

There is no evidence of anything else that would indicate they are implicated. Unbelievable.

Hopefully liza that will answer your question.

  29. 29 Jaz Says:

What exactly have they physically done to’ leave no stone unturned’ for that dear little soul since the status was dropped? Hope they have been working at it. Must have been difficult to choose trained dogs that lie!!
Although my dog used to lie if some other member of the family had given him his
meal unbeknown to me He was always ready to put another meal away!! Crafty thing
