Madeleine McCann: The News Of The World’s Sorry Apology For Tabloid Reporting
MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann, Kate McCann and Gerry McCann
HAVING read “the heartbreaking TRUTH that destroys the lies of Portuguese police”, the oh-so-caring News of The World tells its readers:
“We today offer Kate our immediate and sincere apologies.”
No need, surely..?
The News of the World only published extracts from Kate McCann’s private diary because it cares. It wants to help. It has investigated the case of her daughter’s vanishing and found that the Portuguese police are bungling and to blame.
Yeah, those sicko coppers like Goncalo Amaral who seek to profit from the McCanns agony by publishing books. Not sure how much Amaral’s book costs, but the NOTW is under a pound.
Says the paper:
“We published the extracts in the belief held in good faith that we had Kate’s permission to do so.”
Did the caring NOTW ask Kate McCann to publish extracts from her diary, or just think she would agree to it?
The extracts also appeared in The Sun, the NOTW’s sister paper. How did the paper come by them? A police leak? How the papers hate those:
THE SUN: “McCann cops deny ‘smears’”
The Sun: “Leaks, smears … now plane lies”
How the caring tabloids hate those leaks from the Portuguese police:
Madeleine McCann: Liz Hunt Wonders, The Leaked File And The End
As the NOTW explains:
“It is now clear that our belief was misplaced, and that, in fact, Kate neither approved of nor knew the extracts were to be published.”
“Belief”. Yeah, not fact, just an educated hunch…
That apology in full:
Last week we published extracts from Kate McCann’s diaries and explained in the article that we were doing so to “nail the lies” about Kate created by selective leaking from the diaries by Portuguese police.
No, not to make easy headlines, to keep the story alive and sell more newspapers (surely to keep Our Maddie in the public eye? - Ed).
We published the extracts in the belief held in good faith that we had Kate’s permission to do so. It is now clear that our belief was misplaced, and that in fact Kate neither approved of nor knew that the extracts were to be published.
Misplaced. Not wrong…
Upon learning of our error we immediately removed the extracts from our website and we today offer Kate our immediate and sincere apologies. We have agreed to make a donation to be used in the search for Madeleine. The News of the World remains wholly supportive of the McCanns and their continuing campaign to find their daughter.
Make a donation, or be sued, perhaps…

Good to see you, âde.
The wheels are coming off the ‘give me lots of money now’ waggon to a remarkable degree; the Fragrant Duo’s equity is no doubt so far down the hole that it may meet the Large Hadron Collider coming the other way, and Gerry’s career in politics looks comprehensively screwed.
Which just goes to show that there always a ray of hope….

That’s a yes then. Just changed my computer so didn’t know whether if it would affect my ability to post on here.
The one thing that hasn’t been discussed on any forum (that I know of) is that if the shutters were down it would have been pitch black - not a chink of light anywhere. So, three kids would have been completely in the dark. Any supposed checkers would not have seen a thing. No mention of any of them turning on a light - in order for Gerry to see he was such a lucky man at having such a beautiful daughter. I go to Spain about three times a year and as a brit I don’t do these shutters. I want to see some light from somewhere. And I want to see the sky in the morning. Just my way of living but I got stuck in a cellar in Geneva once without a key - got out but only by …….

The FSS document states that of those 19 components, 15 are present within the result of the analysis to that specific sample. But the total number of components is 37, because there are at least three contributors, may be up to five, in the sample.

As it is front page news at almost every British newspaper, it’s interesting to know with more detail what the scientists from Forensic Science Service told Portuguese police, on September 4, 2007, a few days before Gerry and Kate McCann were named “arguidos.”
According to a document from FSS, signed by Mr. J.R. Lowe, analysis to the samples collected at the boot of the Renault Scenic produced a complex Low Copy Number DNA result which appeared to have originated from at least three people. Madeleine’s DNA profile had 19 elements, each one represented by a peak on a chart, explains Mr. Lowe.
As Madeleine has inherited a same DNA component from both parents, the number of peaks in the chart is 19, instead of 20. Those 2 components appear, in the chart, as only one peak.
The FSS document states that of those 19 components, 15 are present within the result of the analysis to that specific sample. But the total number of components is 37, because there are at least three contributors, may be up to five, in the sample.
Mr. J.R. Lowe’s opinion was that the result is too complex to have a meaningful interpretation or conclusion.
But, concerning the question asked, when the samples were sent to FSS – if it could be or not Madeleine’s DNA – the FSS scientist admits that it would be very simple to say yes, because of the number of components, within the sample, that are also present in Madeleine DNA profile – 15 over 19.
However, as Mr. J.R. Lowe emphasizes, in the mentioned document, the scientists need to consider if the match is genuine and legitimate. Meaning, to be sure if either Madeleine’s DNA was deposited in the car or if the result matched Madeleine’s DNA just by chance.
To explain in more detail this question, the FSS scientist reminds that individual components of Madeleine’s DNA are also present within the profile of many of the scientists that work in the Birmingham laboratory. Mr. Lowe even refers to his own DNA profile, as an evidence of that.
As the sample analysed has a mixture of elements from more than two persons, it is not possible, according to the FSS expert, to determine or evaluate which specific components pair with each other. Another difficulty mentioned is the fact that it’s not possible to separate the components out into three individual DNA profiles.
As a conclusion, Mr. J.R. Lowe wrote that he could not answer the question if the partial match was genuine or just a chance match.

Of course, if the spirit did not want to pass over, like someone who dies suddenly and does not want to pass to the other side - then I suppose it would be possible. They remain in limbo until they are shown the way. There have been lots of reports of the spirits of people who die suddenly and maybe want to hold onto their family - watching their children grow etc. and do not actually go to rest. This could be the case with a child spirit I suppose. Not wanting to leave its family - so I suppose that a limbo spirit could appear very early after death - I dont know, but I suppose if Madeleine is no longer alive, then her spirit could be waiting around for direction. So sad wouldnt it be - if that were the case?

I would seriously doubt it - but if you think that way, then God bless you. Madeleine - if she had passed to the other side, surely would not yet be able to visit - spirits have to mature (not the malt type, I might add!!) The spirit of a child would not under normal circumstances return to haunt so soon - would it??

The British Consul to Portimão retired on July 2007.
His substitute, a lady, followed him and stopped her carrier one year later, prefering to take care of her children.(Why exactly chosing the children?).
The Brish ambassador to Portugal abandonned his diplomatic carrier a few days before the couple were made arguidos.
Could it be that Madeleine’s spirit was visiting them, that’s why they took distance of diplomacy?

Sam a couple of months ago that was the mantra of some posters : pictures of Madeleine [esp. the one know as 'the last picture' = the picture on the pool in PdL] was/were photoshopped.
To me she looks like a normal/happy/naughty girl on lot o pictures I’ve seen
So it’s all in the eyes of the beholder….
Have to go to work early tomorrow, so I’m off.
Nite nite, sleep well
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
why would the mccanns photoshop pictures of maddie totje ?
September 22nd, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Of course not, they are photoshopped.
And it is suspicious how all the people that really knew her discribed her as a happy girl.
Yampster, are we on strike?

‘At the danger of repeating myself:
Most of all, she’s in general frightened and trying to please.’
Chatelaine! Hi! Darling - please continue to repeat yourself as often as you feel able to do so!
One day your message will fall upon the ears of the selectively deaf people!
To my judgemental eye - M is having to seriously concentrate in a concerted and much-prepared manner when posing for the photographs.
I don’t know enough about the child herself to be able to comment on what would capture and hold her attention - but there is a vulnerability there all the time - in her spatial awareness and her eyes and her body language.
In what I initially thought were relaxed photos - I soon found them impish and uncompliant! Conundrum all this!
There is absolutely no spontaneity in any pic that I am aware of.

chateleine, coco, i disagree in one part, i think it’s perfectly normal for kids nowadays to look unkempt when playing or after a whole day travelling, or to look really cute on special occaisons or when in costume, i do think she often looks shy and uncomfortable too, which is in direct contrast to the tapas 9’s description of her, she doesn’t look like a bouncy happy kid does she.

But if it was satire, it would require humor.
In which car was a body found? Reading the report on the dogs, it appears that the cadaver dog “hit” on an ignition key, and that the “blood” dog scented something at the back (when he was called back), although no blood evidence was found.
Is the report incorrect?

coco, it’d be ironic if it wasn’t satire.
………………………………………………….
Wouldn’t it just!
It would be soul-destroying if it was written with heartfelt sympathy!
I comfort myself with the fact that the UK Press is beginning to start reporting the case with an ounce of objection - if not full tonnage!
I would love the undiplomatic diplomatic corps - come out and explain a few things to us.
But if they don’t have to pay for their parking tickets - what can we expect? Guffaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not seen a pic of M looking normal or natural yet unfortunately.
The photos I have seen seem contrived - which I know happens wirh some children some of the time! - I have a Nephew who is a pain in the arse when asked if he will have his photo taken!
M seems to be trying to please the taker of photos in all the pics that I have seen yet. Even the ones where Granny Healy is holding her up to blow out the candles on the cake.
I don’t like the crimped-hair pics or the dressy-up ones and the ones where she is eating something are distateful to me.
Given that M allegedly loved pinky and fairy-like things - I am quite perturbed by her dishevelled and unkempt tom-boy appearance in some of the pics.
I was a bit of a tom-boy when very young but my parents always made sure my face was scrubbed and rosy and that my hair shone like it had been polished with the mahogany cloth! I don’t see this in M’s appearance.

Good evening, Coco.
The photos of Madeleine are indeed unbalanced, unbalancing.
She’s either a diva, or an unkept little [tomboy] girl.
