Jose Mourinho Passes His Spurs Interview

JOSE Mourinho is all set to sign for Spurs. Well, he’s passed his own test with Real Madrid’s performance against Barcelona in the Champions’ League. As he told us in 2004:

“I would have been frustrated if I had been a supporter who paid £50 to watch this game because Spurs came to defend. I’m really frustrated because there was only one team looking to win, they only came not to concede – it’s not fair for the football we played.”

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere Starts Work As A Journalist In Barcelona: Photos

LAST night Arsenal lost to Barcelona in the Champions League. Massimo Busacca, the man Martin Samuel calls “merciless Massimo” is the Swiss referee who sent off the Gunners’ Robin Van Persie for kicking the ball a second after the whistle had blown. And the game was up.

The talk is of argument and arbitrary decisions. But football is about facts. The score says much. But what of those other facts the media likes to pepper its reporting with?

As ever the news media is factual:

The Game:

“We were not perfect, but we have got the result. We have come through and that is what is important,” – Pep Guardiola, Press TV

“We played the perfect game” – Pep Guardiola, Irish Independent

Barcelona V Arsenal In Photos: Fabregas Shirt Watch

BARCELONA are seeking to overturn a 1-2 scoreline and advance to the later stages of the Champions League at the expense of Arsenal. Barca want the Gunners’ captain Cesc Fabregas. Anorak will watch tonight to see how long it is before a fan runs onto the pitch and presents Cesc with a Barca shirt.

Barcelona play good football. But they are praised beyond their worth. They are not more than club. They are a club who like to win. They are not morally superior. They can put the boot in.

Leyton Orient Do Better Than Barcelona Against Arsenal: FA Cup Photos

CALLING Leyton Orient fans, these phones of your mighty 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the FA Cup are for you – and this is the same Arsenal who conquered Barcelona a few days earlier. One other thing to admire about Orient: the fans can watch the game from the flats. Were you one of them on the best balcony in London?

Chile Miners Trapped In Barcelona, Real Madrid And Manchester United PR War

THE 33 miners trapped underground in Chile are the subject of a tug-o-war between Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona football clubs.

Barcelona striker David Villa has donated two signed shirts to the 33 workers.

Real Madrid has sent signed tops to the 33 miners with the message “be strong miners” on the back.

And now Bobby Charlton, stalwart of Manchester United’s PR machine, has invited the miners to come and watch his team play.

Amnesiac Cesc Fabregas Stays As Arsenal Laugh Off Desperate Barcelona: Photos

CESC Fabreagas, the Arsenal skipper with no chant to call his own, says he is happy to stay at Arsenal and it no sure what all the fuss was about him going to Barcelona.

Says he:

“Firstly, I would like to apologise to all the Arsenal fans for not speaking sooner about my future but I’ve not known what I was going to do until this moment.”

No. Cesc has spoken about his future. He has said over the summer – and you have to listen hard to hear him over the sin of Barcelona company men speaking for their paymasters and the fact that his mouth is being covered as a Barcelona shirt is pulled over his torso:

“When you see that things are going so well for [players at Barcelona], I think I would like to go to Barcelona. Then if they want me or not is another thing. It’s what I want and what I would like.”

And:

“It is not up to me any more. It’s just now about Arsenal and whoever else has to be [involved] and that’s it. I don’t want to say anything else.”

Burnley Football Hooligan Escapes Jail Because He Loves His Dog

deeIS that you in the “DEE 38” top biting off part of a fan’s ear at the Champions League final in Rome?

Football hooliganism was once the media’s favourite topic. One of your writer’s first jobs in sports journalism was to compile a “Year Of Shame” list. It turned out that the archives had one for each year and all that was needed was to look for any game in the past 12 months featuring two of Leeds, Chelsea or Millwall to keep it up to date.

The media loves talking of and talking up crowd trouble. You do get lunatics like “Dee 38” and one Michael Lewis, who breached his Football Banning Order for the third time when he went to a match at Blackpool.

Lewis’s case show that banning orders can work. But are they effective?

Madeleine McCann: Victoria Beckham Lookalike Found

mccann-lookalike-1MADELEINE McCann Watch: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at Madeleine McCann in the news – Posh lookalike found, live from Barcelona and the Swedish ghost ship…

Daily Express (back on the front page): “MADDIE: Mystery of yacht that just vanished”

It’s the “MADDIE YACHT MYSTERY”.

No, it’s not the yacht that just vanished form the new, the Arab yacht that in June 2007 caused the Express to yell “Find the Arab’s yacht.” This is another disappearing yacht entirely:

A YACHT which left the Algarve just hours after Madeleine McCann disappeared has vanished without trace, the Daily Express can reveal. The luxury Swedish cruiser sailed out of the Portuguese harbour at Portimao on May 4, 2007, the morning after four-year-old Madeleine disappeared. It has not been seen since.

Last night there was growing speculation that Madeleine might have been whisked out of Portugal on the mystery boat.

Speculation like:

It is possible Madeleine could have been abducted on the orders of a childless couple, desperate to have a family, and taken to Barcelona to meet her new “parents”…

And the mystery yacht?

In Sweden all vessels measuring over 12 metres (40ft) long must be registered with the Swedish Maritime Administration. But inquires with their head office in Stockholm yesterday found no record of the yacht.

You don’t suppose… No, it’s too far-fetched. Well, you don’t suppose the mystery yacht was smaller than 12 metres long?

Daily Star: “Maddie: Was she on boat?”

The Swedish boat or the Arab boat? The jet ski?

MADDIE: RIDDLE OF AUSSIE ‘GHOST SHIP’

DETECTIVES hunting for Madeleine McCann were last night trying to trace a multi-million-pound power boat. The high-speed craft flying the Australian flag was moored yards from the spot where a nervous Posh Spice lookalike asked a Brit: “Are you here to deliver my daughter?’’

Roger Federer Signs for Barcelona

barcelona-federerFOR a club of grace and charm, Barcelona is supported by clothes fetishists and other perverts.

At the French Open, a typical Barca fan showed of his nylon flag and then tried to stick his erect hat on Roger Federer’s head.

The last time something like this was tried, the target for the love was Thierry Henry. Then at Arsenal, Henry was presented with Barca shirt by a Catalan who wanted his idol to strip off and put it on.
