Starlings scare predator by forming shape of a huge bird
To evade predators starlings cluster. In the skies over Costa Brava, Spain, a murmuration of starlings took the form of a a far larger bird. Daniel Biber, who took the photo, tells the Independent:
“I was taking pictures of the murmurations over several days. Only when I checked the pictures on the computer later, I realised what formation the starlings had created.
“I was so concentrated on taking pictures at the time that I hadn’t realised that the starlings had created a giant bird in the sky.
“It took less than 10 seconds for the birds to create that formation. I realised that I had captured a unique snapshot, technically, sharp and in high quality.”

Mr Biber’s picture won first prize in a contest run by the Swiss Ornithological Institute in Sempach, which sims “to inspire public interest in birds and raise awareness for their protection”.
Says Daniel: “In the northeast of Spain, hundreds of thousands of Common Starlings gather at nighttime to sleep. While I was watching this spectacle, the billowing flock suddenly took the shape of a huge flying bird. What luck!”

@charlismyname spotted this ‘Glasgow kiss’ and tweeted that the pigeon was then eaten by a seagull.

Wind Turbine Plot To Murder Bald Eagles
HAVING killed the bird of the century, sliced golden eagles and made bats explode, the US bald eagle is getting the silent treatment:
More than four decades ago the golden eagle was awarded the same protections under US law as the country’s national bird, the bald eagle. Even disturbing their nests is a criminal offence.
The raptor is not considered to be under threat but scientists are worried about a recent increase in the number of golden eagles killed by wind turbines. Eagles in flight tend to focus on the ground below as they look for prey, unaware of the fast-spinning blades in their paths until it’s too late.
Lover attempts to send phone by carrier pigeon to jailed boyfriend
TO Brazil, where Cristielli Mansa, 21, used a pigeon to transport a mobile phone to her lover, Wagner Machado Rodrigues, 19, who had been imprisoned for drug trafficking.

Wind turbines kill golden eagles and make bats implode
“People think the danger is bats getting hit by the blade but the danger is barotrauma, where they are popped from the inside. There are many risks to bats but when you add wind turbines it could be the final nail in the coffin. It had no signs of external trauma. That, to me, suggests it suffered internally.”
Wind turbines murder the Bird of the Century
WOW! Looks at that bird in the Outer Hebrides. It’s that a White-throated Needletail? It’s only ever been spotted in the UK 8 times.
The White-throated Needletail isn’t seen very often in the UK. In fact, the bird, which is the world’s fastest flying bird, hasn’t been spotted in Britain since 1991. That’s why it was such a treat for birdwatchers when the rare bird showed up today in Northumberland.

Blackbirds found blind drunk in playground
SOME young tearaway blackbirds found dead at a primary school in Cumbria, which doesn’t sound very funny. However, when you consider the fact that they were dead from alcohol poisoning, it suddenly feels more amusing.
