Fans booted out of Boston’s Fenway Park for waving accidentally racist banner

Hard luck on the four fans expelled from Boston’s Fenway Park during a baseball game yesterday after waving a banner carrying the legend: “Racism Is As American As Baseball.” Ambiguous much? One of the banned banners tells us:

“There were originally about eight people involved who had this idea, and those eight people come from various organizing groups in the Boston area. Mostly groups that affiliate with racial justice causes. And the banner came in response to the racist comments at the beginning of the season at Fenway. But overall, we saw, we see Boston continually priding itself as a kind of liberal, not racist city, and are reminded also constantly that it’s actually an extremely segregated city. It has been for a long time, and that no white people can avoid the history of racism, essentially. So we did this banner as a gesture towards that, to have a conversation about that.”

Here’s the banner:

RAcism is as american as baseball

The Boston Red Sox make a statement:

“During the fourth inning of tonight’s game, four fans unfurled a banner over the left field wall in violation of the club’s policy prohibiting signs of any kind to be hung or affixed to the ballpark. The individuals involved were escorted out of Fenway Park.”

America’s anti-free speech rally is wholly stupid

To Boston, then, where thousands of well-meaning fools are marching to shut down free speech.

Thousands of counter-protesters crammed Boston Common and marched through city streets on Saturday morning in efforts to drown out the planned “free speech” rally.

The aim was to precent white supremacists from talking.

Blessedly, some people understand how things work:

free speech

Free speech for Nazis is free speech for anti-Nazis. You cannot have one without the other.

Boston Marathon victims vow to get better

Boston Marathon Victim Vows

AFTER the bombs went off in Boston, the pain began. Rather than focus on the true victims of the murder, we have seen voices raised about female Muslims living in fear of reprisal from white racists. One writer told us that these women were living in “hell, as if Boston were now a fiery home for evil, violent bigots. A few scuffles from idiots were a sign that America was a race riot waiting to happen. But what we’ve seen is understanding and a coming together of humanity.

Boston Marathon bombs: confronted by horror the people are not terrorised just closer together

Nationals Marlins Baseball

AFTER the bombs ruined lives at the Boston marathon we learned again that terrorism destroys.  It frightens and reduces. But it doesn’t win. Life goes on. Society holds together. Today. around 1000 journalists are stood outside the Boston Federal Courthouse. News is that a man has been arrested.

The Boston Globe claims: “Suspect being taken to US District Court in South Boston.”

The Boston Police Department counters: “Despite reports to the contrary there has not been an arrest in the Marathon attack.”

But we’re not surprised if the culprits are caught. We expect them to be. We expect to win. We all want to see who did it.

And life goes on.

Boston cops fight “hacktivists” – with sarcasm

HACKER activist group Anonymous has made a habit of infiltrating or taking down websites of anyone who disagrees with its open-source, whistleblowing, digital piracy outlook. But the Boston Police Department, one of the latest targets of the vengeful ‘hacktivists’ decided to retaliate – with sarcasm.

The Boston Police Department website, BPDNews.com, was down for a week after hackers replaced its home page with a video of the American rapper KRS-One’s song “Sound of Da Police”. The action, a message posted under the video informed, was part of #FuckFBIFriday, and it was carried out as “retaliation for the brutality against Occupy Boston”.
