Channel 5 Parties For A Rosy-Fingered Dawn

CHANNEL 5 is front-page news on the Daily Star, owner of, er, channel 5. News is that Channel 5 is brilliant and “SET TO THRIVE”. So. To the party at Northern & Shell’s London offices, with Barbara Windsor (a new show on the channel for post-EastEnders Babs?), Peter Andre looking clean and tidy, Matthew Wright, Vanessa Feltz (both looking as if they are gazing into an eclipse), Melinda Messenger, gadget head Suzi Perry, a recovered Jim Rosenthal, the ubiquitous Sinitta and Richard Desmond.

The Top 10 BBC Radio Fails

And though we like to be cynical about such things, the option of having a decent fifth chancel that pumps up a free-to-air alternatives to BBC bias, crappy ITV dramas and Channel Four fantasies about famous people being tortured is all to the good…

Daily Star Plugs Channel Five Reality Show As Front-Page News

IT would always take something big to knock Katie Price and Kerry Katona off the front page of the Star and that something is here. And it is gargantuan. It’s the Chawner family, the fattest family in tabloids.

Says the front-page headline:

“LARDY SCROUNGERS GET EVEN FATTER.”

News is that:

The defiant Chawner clan have piled on more weight after flunking a fat-fighting telly show.

The Chawners have dug their heels in. Either that or else they are sinking into the wooden floor on Lorraine Kelly’s Big Challenge, a TV show in which the fat are brought down to size – literally – by a faux folksy TV presenter with a heart of gold and a nice line in pity.

It turns out that, as a unit, the Chawners have piled on another four stone. TV really does add weight.

A Fatwa On Channel 4, Channel 5 And Richard Desmond

THE head of Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Judiciary Council says its OK to kill broadcasters of filth, depravation and debauchery. Richard Desmond, the BBC, the makers of Deal Or No Deal, and pretty much all British broadcasters are doomed:

A senior Saudi cleric has issued a religious decree saying the owners of television networks broadcasting “depravation and debauchery” may be killed, Al-Arabiya television reported on Friday.

“The owners of these channels propagate depravation and debauchery,” said Saleh al-Luhaidan, chief justice of the supreme judicial council, the highest judicial authority in the ultra-conservative Saudi kingdom…

“It is lawful to kill … the apostles of depravation… if their evil cannot be easily removed through simple sanctions,” Luhaidan said, according to excerpt of the remarks broadcast on the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya.

Turn the radio off, or kill the speaker. Tricky one…
