Martin Cohen Explains What Drives People to Believe In The Climate Change Scare

DO you believe in climate change? Do you seek to covert non-believers by tales of hell and abused children? Martin Cohen, editor of The Philosopher, explains:

Alas, in the climate-change debate, there is a worrying amount of irrationality, incomplete science and skewed presentation. The scientists apparently “cherry-picking” and hiding their data revealed recently in the University of East Anglia email scandal are only following in a long tradition that includes even Galileo “cheating” by saying that the Earth must orbit round the Sun – in a perfect circle. Yet, surely most objectionable of all is the use of gullibility and fear as tactics in campaigns. And if fear requires a world of zero risk, that certainly won’t include those mercury-filled light bulbs and nuclear power stations.

Today, global-warming “deniers” have all been told they must fall into line with “the science”. But this is not science, this is propaganda. And we are not being asked to be more rational but to suspend our own judgment completely. That, not “runaway climate change”, is the most dangerous threat to the world today.

Are you scared yet?

Copenhagen Summit Relocates Fiji

YOU’D think that with the world obsessed with geography – traditionally a dossy subject at school – hacks like Johann Hari would have some background knowledge for Copenhagen Climate Summit fans. But no:

Staggering across the fringes of the summit are the people who will see their countries live or die on the basis of its deliberations. Leah Wickham, a young woman from Fiji, broke down as she told the conference she will see her homeland disappear beneath the waves if we do not act now. “All the hopes of my generation rest on Copenhagen,” she pleaded.

Tabloid Hysteria Over Climate Change And More Dead Trees

CLIMATE Change is big news. It’s big news at the Daily Express, where climate change hype is met by ant- climate change hype. MacGuffin investigates:

THE Daily Express doesn’t believe in climate change. This front page from last week made that clear. The quote marks around fraud show it is a quote from someone else but the phrasing makes it clear the, ahem, ‘world’s greatest newspaper’ is of the same mind.

That was emphasised again on Tuesday 8 December when their Environment Editor’s feeble article about Copenhagen was given the headline A load of hot air!

Obama’s Tree Of Lights Signals To Copenhagen

BRRR! As the great and good swim and walk to Copenhagen to talk about climate change and then race back to tell us what we should do to stop it, Barack Obama cuts down a tree, plants it in a pot and covers it in electric lights.

Over in Australia, the faster for Gaia is on a drip feed:

A man who has been on a hunger strike in protest against a lack of action on climate change will be admitted to hospital after losing 20 per cent of his body weight. Sixty-one-year-old Michael Morphett has been camped for more than a month on the lawn outside Parliament House in Canberra, and will be taken to hospital to treat dangerously low blood pressure and for observation.

Gordon Brown Salutes Motor Racing Ahead Of Climate Summit

AS Gordon Brown prepares to fly off is a big clockwork airplane to Copenhagen to talk about climate change and how man is killing the planet with burning fossil fuels he took time out to meet Formula One World Champion Jenson Button and present him with the Richard Seaman Trophy. It’s the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Annual Awards in London. Says Gordon Brown:

The Religious Climate Change Wave Protest, In Pictures

GREEN campaigners journey to London and Glasgow to demand “Climate Justice” and call on the government to push for a meaningful deal as they fly in for the UN climate change summit in Copenhagen. Environmental campaigners, aid agencies, trade unions and organisations including the Women’s Institute travel from across the country to take part in “The Wave” in London. They come on foot. They make the pilgrimage. And at their head is a religious leader muscling in on the throng, or just trying to keep warm. It’s the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams – head of the Church of England (keen investor in oil and mining firms; and house builder on farm land) – joining the Archbishop of Westminster The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols in donning a pair of blue rubber gloves as if they are about to frisk Gaia for concealed hurricanes and terrible plagues. The pictures now follow. The plagues follow later:

Gordon Brown Chops Down And Plugs In A Tree For Climate Change

ON the day Gordon Brown built up the heat in readiness to fly off to Copenhagen to talk about climate change –

“This perhaps the greatest challenge we face as a world and this is the turning point that can either work for us or it can fail – This is one of the great endeavours of our time – to bring the world together to deal with the problem that has been caused essentially by the richest countries but is now affecting some of the poorest countries in the world. If we do not act, all of us are going to be worse off” –

His wife stood outside his house beside a gigantic chopped-down tree covered in lights. Bah humbug!

Germany Unveils World’s Biggest Candle To Light Global Warming

8081642A STEEPLE is covered with red cloth to form the world’s largest candle at the Christmas market in Schlitz, Germany. The candle is made of a stone tower which measures 36 metres in height and is covered with red cloth of more than 1000 square metres.

Approximately 140 light bulbs are adjusted to the steeple top in the form of a flame, measuring 6 metres in height.

From the top you can see Copenahgen and the green ministers who have flown  in to talk about climate change…

In other climate change news, boffins at the University of East Anglia (UEA) Climatic Research Unit – the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures – have “admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.”

This means that following those emails about scientists colluding to stymie debate on climate change and set the science in stone, other weather watchers cannot check the sums.

How unlucky is that?

In other Green news: Expert calls for a ‘greener’ Hajj.

Climate Gate: Politicians Investigate CRU’s Emails And The BBC Sat On The Story

global-warming-heresy-cruFILES hacked from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) see them here – seem to indicate an Orwellian pact between scientists to settle the scientific debate on man-made global warming.

The Washington Post sees “an intellectual circle that appears to feel very much under attack, and eager to punish its enemies”. Says Al Gorean George Monibot:

It’s no use pretending this isn’t a major blow. The emails extracted by a hacker from the climatic research unit at the University of East Anglia could scarcely be more damaging. I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I’m dismayed and deeply shaken by them.

Monibot has seen the eviedence and reached a conclusions.

Daily Mail And Tax Payers’ Alliance Attacks BBC Over Its Free Trees For A Better Planet

daily-wail1115THE Daily Mail is no fan of the BBC and free trees. The BBC is full of guff – only this morning it gave us two climate change stories:

1. “BBC2, 7pm Wed 25 Nov: Can Obama Save the Planet?“, presented by Justin Rowlatt.

2. A story in which we learnt – with no facts – that Australian bush fires are arriving earlier than ever and are more intense, and that Australia is sometimes called – get this – “the Saudi Arabia of coal“.

MacGuffin notices that its “latest pathetic assault on the BBC comes in a story about trees”. He has more:

BBC under fire for Autumnwatch tree giveaway costing licence fee payers £150,000 reveals:

The Beeb is handing out 300,000 free trees at a thousand different garden centres, nurseries and DIY stores nationwide.

Each sapling has cost the corporation 32 pence – £96,000 in total

British Law Elevates Climate Change Belief To Same Status As Relgion

pope-al-goreAL Goreans can delight that their green beliefs are now an official religion, in the eyes of the law. One day on from the climate change spiritualists knocking at the door, global warming belief is granted the legal status of a religion.

The messenger is  Tim Nicholson, 42, from Oxford, former head of sustainability at property firm Grainger plc. He tells Mr Justice Michael Burton that he was made redundant in July 2008 due to his “philosophical belief about climate change and the environment“.

Mr Burton rules that “a belief in man-made climate change … is capable, if genuinely held, of being a philosophical belief for the purpose of the 2003 Religion and Belief Regulations“.

The X Factor’s Jedward Will Kill Us All Says Climate Change Expert

greenshirts2WANT to know how the X Factor could bring about not only war with China but the end of the entire planet? Writing in the Irish Times, John Gibbons tells you:

Time to discard our delusions and get real

Shows like the X Factor fuel the fantasy that anyone could, if they tried hard enough, be the next big thing. Positive thinking sounds innocuous, even benign, but it differs from cheerfulness or normal optimism in that it often extends to believing that the world is shaped by our wants and desires, and that these can be willed, genie-like, into existence.

Stick with it:

In Generation Me, psychologist Jean Twenge points out that “we simply take it for granted that we should all feel good about ourselves, we are all special and we all deserve to follow our dreams”. Over the last 25 years, international studies have tracked a strong rise in narcissistic belief among young people.
