Nowhere Island Brings-Tows The Artic To Britain

_46590705_hartleyNOWHERE ISLAND is the work of artist Alex Hartley. To raise awareness over climate change, Mr Hartley will be taking rocks from an island in the Svalbard archipelago north of Norway by barge to Weymouth for the Olympic sailing in 2012.

The rocks will be put on a floating football pitch-sized platform to create Nowhere Island. No Where Island will then be towed by tug boat around the South West coast to Bristol.

It’s all part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. And Mr Hartley fought off other artists to win the £500,000 commission from London 2012 and the Arts Council.

Mr Hartley says the environmental cost of towing the island was outweighed by the “poetry of the project“.

So as not to pollute his vision, we give you the story in full.

Climate Change Fear: The CO2 Monster Attacks British Children

co2-monsterHERE’S the new video from our British government that says climate change is going to kill you and yours, and your pets. The c02 monster is going to kill the kids in their sleep. If the daymares don’t get them first. Or the turbines.

I’m thinking of changing Anorak’s “scare stories” section to “climate change”:

Climate change sceptics are to be targeted in a hard-hitting government advertising campaign that will be the first to state unequivocally that Man is causing global warming and endangering life on Earth …

The advertisement attempts to make adults feel guilty about their legacy to their children. It features a father telling his daughter a bedtime story of “a very very strange” world with “horrible consequences” for today’s children.

Although, C02 might be just the ticket and its the oxygen that’s gonna kill yer:

The World’s First Climate Change Refugees

6312793CLIMATE change, aka global warming, is hitting Africa hard, What used to be called weather is now a sure sign of impending doom. Richard North reports:

“Climate change is here, it is a reality”, reports John Vidal. As one devastating drought follows another, the future is bleak for millions in east Africa, he writes.

Describing the pitiful scenes, he recounts how, after three years of disastrous rains, the families from the Borana tribe, who by custom travel thousands of miles a year in search of water and pasture, have unanimously decided to settle down.

Back in April, they packed up their pots, pans and meagre belongings, deserted their mud and thatch homes at Bute and set off on their last trek, to Yaeblo, a village of near-destitute charcoal makers that has sprung up on the side of a dirt road near Moyale.

Now they live in temporary “benders” – shelters made from branches covered with plastic sheeting. They look like survivors from an earthquake or a flood, says Vidal, but in fact these are some of the world’s first climate-change refugees.

Department of Energy and Climate Change Issues Weather Warning For Birmingham

midlandsA DIRE warning from our Department of Energy and Climate Change. And we learn that Birmingham is going balmy:

Energy and Climate Change Minister, David Kidney reads from the Big Bumber Book of Nu Speak:

“The Transition Plan is a route map to a low carbon country, future proofing our kids’ way of life. The UK will be the first major economy to convert to low carbon living, and the first to reap the benefits.

“As a world leader in cutting edge technology the West Midlands needs to harness its legacy of ingenuity and entrepreneurship to play a role in the shift to low carbon. The region can play a key role in this transition as a hub for low carbon manufacture, innovation and transport.”

John Prescott’s New Earth Deal Kills The Planet

7743755MORE news on John Prescott, the former deputy Prime Minister who’s turning into Britain’s version of Al Gore.

Anorak was at the Rich Mix building in Bethnal Green, London to see John Prescott holding up his Blackberry to show off the ‘New Earth Deal‘ climate change campaign website.

Prezza then spoke about “chimate clange” and the causes of “globals warning“.

But if Prezza is to be Al Gore, he needs to select the science he will champion. first up: mobile phones kill crops:

It seems like the plot of a particularly far-fetched horror film. But some scientists suggest that our love of the mobile phone could cause massive food shortages, as the world’s harvests fail.

They are putting forward the theory that radiation given off by mobile phones and other hi-tech gadgets is a possible answer to one of the more bizarre mysteries ever to happen in the natural world – the abrupt disappearance of the bees that pollinate crops.

The theory is that radiation from mobile phones interferes with bees’ navigation systems, preventing the famously homeloving species from finding their way back to their hives. Improbable as it may seem, there is now evidence to back this up.

Mobile phones heat up the oceans

Chinese state media have of course been silent on the next environmental disaster China is causing for the world, but fortunately, the Dutch media are on top of it. While in China the number of mobile callers is rapidly nearing the half billion, a group of fifty scientists in Columbia have revealed that mobile phones contribute to global warming.

Not the batteries are the problem, but the billions of calls heat up the waves.

And what of that swanky new website Prezza is championing? Well:

Websites kill the planet

Dr. Alexander Wissner-Gross, Environmental Fellow at Harvard University studying the environmental impact of computing, says that each second of web browsing generates around 20 milligrams of CO2…

Shocker Statistic:

% of world’s greenhouse gases created by the manufacturing, use and disposal of information and communication technology: 2%

% of world’s greenhouse gases created by the entire aviation industry: 2%

Says vomiting Prezza: “Better out than in…”

John Prescott Declares Gore On China

the-joy-of-sectsJOHN Prescott is not appering on Strictly Come Dancing. What John Prescott is doing is lecturing the Chinese on global warming.

Global warming is the Celebity Squares of world diplomacy.

Richard North looks on, aghast:

John Prescott has landed his most bizarre job yet – as professor of climate change at a Chinese university. Prezza (pictured) has confounded his critics with his new role at Xiamen University on the south east coast of the country where he will give occasional lectures on global warming.

Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Join The Green Jet Set

7696163BRAD Pitt and Angelina Jolie travel by private jet again. As Anorak’s Man in the Hollywood Swamp notes:

A private seat that consumed something in the neighbourhood of 400 gallons of fuel for each person onboard. As opposed to the 125 gallons per passenger that a loaded Boeing 777 would have consumed.

This is, of course the same Brad Pitt who supports Global Green, whose mission is:

“…to reduce greenhouse gas emmissions.”

Global Climate Activists Torch Cars

car-climateSMELL that? That, dear carbon breather, is the smell of voiture a la mode, the climate activist’s call to arms. As Tim Blair notes, it’s Car-B-Cue season in La Belle Epoch and greenists are rampaging like never before:

The jeuness d’oree go vert:

Restive youths in a Paris suburb torched a tourist bus and nearly a half-dozen cars and hurled objects at police early Tuesday, a night after fullblown unrest prompted by the death of a teen fleeing police …

A night earlier, some 40 people hurled Molotov cocktails at police and firefighters, torched dozens of cars and one person fired a handgun during a rampage hours after the death of the young man.

In Sweden, the normally boxy but reliable Swedes are fanning flames:

More than ten cars were set alight in a series of arson attacks across Malmö on Sunday night …

Police have cordoned off the area and will conduct a forensic examination of the scene on Monday. CCTV pictures secured from a nearby restaurant will be examined for clues.

Pee In The Shower To Save The Atlantic Rainforest

shower-weeTO save the planet we must all make sacrifices, so goes the media message. In Brazil, locals are being encouraged to urinate in the show and therebye give Gaia a 2-4-1 deal on water saving.

Amazing, indeed, that anyone needs to be told to do this. Watch the TV adverts – produced and powered by the magick of electricity to save the world. So say the green jihadis.

Anorak readers will recalls a similar effort by former London mayor Ken Livingstone to see urine reclassified as “green waste” and urged us not to flush if we’d only had a pee. Such is the way forward for civilisation.

New TV ads are encouraging Brazilians to save water – by urinating in the shower.

Michael Jackson’s Buried With Eco-Friendly Lyrics

NJ.Com: “Omer Bhatti says he’s NOT Michael Jackson’s son and his mom was not MJ’s lover

Jackson did  not have one-night stand with a grown woman?

Unfolding like a line out of the song Billie Jean, Omer Bhatti has come forward to say his mom Pia was not Michael Jackson’s lover and he isn’t the lovechild the media has made him out to be.

Instead, Bhatti is now telling the press that he was given a front row seat at Jackson’s funeral earlier this month because he was “Michael’s best friend” and “like a son to him”-not because his mother had an affair with the pop star in 1984.

Three Year Old Activist Makes Ultimate Sacrifice For Climate Change

nappiesTO Australia, where three-year-old Aleyra is making the ultimate sacrifice for climate change: she is selflessly wetting the bed:

SHE may only be three-years-old, but Aleyra Donnelly knows how much of an impact her nappies can have on the environment.

Four months ago, Aleyra told her mum that she would no longer wear a nappy to bed to avoid having to throw it in the rubbish bin the next day.

Aleyra’s mother Crystal Donnelly said while there had been “a few accidents” since then, she was so proud of her little girl’s fledgling environmental efforts she nominated her for the news.com.au Junior Green Hero Award.

Greenpeace Litters Mount Rushmore For Climate Change

greenpeaceGREENPEACE has defaced Mount Rushmore with litter to highlight the evils of man-made global warming.

Man will now arrive in cars and vans, and with winches and much huffing and puffing clean up the wilderness attraction. But why did they deface the site and not the Obama statue?

Greenpeace said the 11 climbers “took special care not to damage the monument, using existing anchors placed by the National Park Service for periodic cleaning.”

Al Gore Creates His Schindler’s List

al-gore-listAL Gore says people who ignore climate change and fail to listen to him as he selflessly jets into speak are Nazis. In the day of reckoning what side will you be on: Nazis or Green Shirts?

The Times: After arriving in a private jet, Al Gore today compared the battle against climate change with the struggle against the Nazis.

The Times now says: Al Gore invokes spirit of Churchill in battle against climate change.”

The Nazis are purged:

Al Gore invoked the spirit of Winston Churchill yesterday when he urged political leaders to follow the example of Britain’s wartime leader in the battle against climate change…

Speaking in Oxford at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, sponsored by The Times, Mr Gore said: “Winston Churchill aroused this nation in heroic fashion to save civilisation in World War Two. We have everything we need except political will, but political will is a renewable resource.”

The Times was co-sponsoring the event at which Gore was speaking, and surely realised that comparing Naziism with being sceptical about climate change made their man look unhinged at worse and a scaremonger at best.

Al Gore Says Britain Is No Longer A Global Power

al-gore1RICHARD North looks at how Al Gore’s hypocrisy, Michael Jackson and tabloid reporting ignore the battle our armed forces are facing:

Just as we thought we could get back to (semi-) normal, after a rush of defence stories, up pops, to almost everyone’s surprise, a government announcement that it will, after all, have a defence review – but not until after the next election, with a Green Paper to be produced in the autumn.

For all that, the media has been obsessed with the Michael Jackson funeral. The BBC (and others) have been running it wall-to-wall, matched in print by the celebrity-obsessed Telegraph, leaving coverage of the much more important issue extremely sparse.
