Gaddafi Might Laugh: Libya Carved Up By Belgium And Friends

COLONEL Gaddafi, the old gangster, might laugh. This is how his country is being carved up by the great and good. The leaders of countries various held a chat for the Support of the Libyan People at the Elysee Palace in Paris, France.

All the big knobs were there – not least of all Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme (he’s the head of a country that in February became the title holder of the longest period any country has gone without a government – longer than Iraq).

Libya And The IRA: Gaddafi’s EU And Sinn Fein Friends Vote Against No-Fly Zone

GADDAFI’S Libya still has some pals in the European Union. The EU press office tell us:

“‘EU governments need to stand ready for a decision in the UN Security Council on further measures, including the possibility of a no-fly zone’,” in compliance with a UN mandate and coordination with the Arab League and the African Union stressed MEPs in a widely-backed resolution (584 in favour, 18 against, 18 abstentions). During the debate, only the GUE/NGL group was against this idea.”

Libya: Gaddafi Will Never Make It The Hague

MUAMMAR GADDAFI says he will die a martyr, in Libya, or Venezuela, or Scotland. He won’t make it to The Hague alive. One court of law for all mankind is a weirdness and cause for concern. But this comment from Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor, shows how weak his organisation is:

“The decision to do justice in Libya should be taken by the Libyan people. Currently, Libya is not a State Party to the Rome Statute. Therefore, intervention by the ICC on the alleged crimes committed in Libya can occur only if the Libyan authorities accept the jurisdiction of the Court, (through article 12(3) of the Rome Statute). In the absence of such step, the United Nations Security Council can decide to refer the situation to the Court. The Office of the Prosecutor will act only after either decision is taken”.

Evidence That British Ministers Traded Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi For Gadaffi’s Oil

libya-dealDID the British Government – those traders in ethical foreign policy – do a deal with Libya that traded mass murderer Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi for oil?

Opposition parties say ministers have “serious questions” to answer after Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s son, Saif, said Megrahi’s release was part of a trade deal.

Remember Saif?

In 2002, Saif Gaddafi, the son of Libyan Leader Colonel Gaddafi, celebrated his victory against The Sunday Telegraph outside the High Court. Gaddafi, then a 29-year-old architect and engineer, was at the High Court to fight 1563706against The Sunday Telegraph in which he was claiming libel damages over an article in 1995 which he says accused him of being a dishonest maverick involved in money laundering.

He won. The British media lost. Now the same Daily Telegraph that questioned Saif’s honesty tells us:

Saif al Islam Gaddafi, Col Gaddafi’s son, made it clear that in all business talks with Britain, the release of al-Megrahi was always ‘on the negotiating table.’ That claim, allied with the new revelation that other ministers have been holding wide-ranging talks, puts Mr Brown in an increasingly difficult position.

Who or what to believe?

AGW sees a press release by the press association. “Not a lot to add… Apart from saying that Mandelson’s “offensive” quote is a cracker.

(He would say that wouldn’t he?…as that other notorious Mandy…Welsh tart Marilyn Rice-Davies…famously said of Lord Astor’s denials during the court case following the Profumo scandal. Not that I would ever associate the openly gay UK Business Minister with a call-girl. That would be completely over the top.

You’d need more than a touch of terminal disease to get out of jail with a free card and a Mediterranean pied a terre after that level of journalistic offence.”)

The news:

PRESSURE is increasing on Gordon Brown to disclose details of trade deals negotiated with Libya.

It comes after it was reported that three ministers had visited the country in 15 months leading up to the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

Lord Jones, then trade minister, travelled to Libya in May last year to speak to business representatives, according to reports.

Former health minister Dawn Primarolo was said to have conducted talks with the Libyan prime minister in November last year, and Bill Rammell, then Foreign Office minister, held discussions with his Libyan counterparts in February 2009.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson also met Libyan health ministers at the World Health Assembly in Geneva last year when he was health secretary, it was reported.

And now the best bit:

Business Secretary Lord Mandelson dismissed the suggestion that the bomber’s case was on the table during talks as “offensive“.

So was it under the table, then?
