God and maybe a British Muslim wanted Roger Federer to win

IT turned out that praying to win Wimbledon was a waste of time. You will recall that the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu (“Jesus wants me for a Sun reader”), told readers of his Sun column:

Loving God we are so filled with hope by the Wimbledon final today! Guide Andy Murray in the choices that come to him with every ball. Make us all the best that we can be, by your Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ, to the glory of God our Father. Amen.

Just as soon as the tabloids can find a British Muslim who prayed for Roger, the Daily Mail will let us know.

Dr John Sentamu at Whitby Abbey (as seen in the Sun on Sunday)

THE last time we at Anorak spotted the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu was when he wrote in the Sun on Sunday Issue 1 – the cleansed News of the World. The sex in the NoW was good and bad, but the SoS was wholesome and a sign of redemption. Anyhow, Senatmu was at Whitby Abbey to celebrate the birthday of the Christian Church. Happy birthday, Christian Church. Now blow out your candles and gerrum out for Page 3…

Archbishop Name Checks Claudia Lawrence and Madeleine McCann

TIME once more to hear from the Archbishop of York as he calls for “renewed hope in the searches for Claudia Lawrence and Madeleine McCann“.

Only a loon would not think it good news that missing persons were found, preferably alive and well. But why these two? Does the Bishop write his sermon on Google News in mind?

Sky: Dr John Sentamu said he could not imagine the pain and suffering endured by the families of the missing. But he said the Easter celebration of the triumph of life over death should inspire people never to give up hoping they will be found.

THE SUN: “Bishop raps ‘ruthless’ bankers”

THE Archbishop of York slammed bankers in his Christmas Day sermon for pursuing “ruthless gain”.

Dr John Sentamu warned banks against “exploitative lending” and urged them not to “enrich themselves at poor neighbours’ expense”.

The Church has no investments, no property portfolio and has not made one single penny in the financial boom years. Read about their poverty here.
