Earth Hours kills Gaia faster

Earth Hour

LET’S hear it for Earth Hour! Bjørn Lomborg has news of the March 23 homage to the Dark Ages:

In fact, Earth Hour will cause emissions to increase. As the United Kingdom’s National Grid operators have found, a small decline in electricity consumption does not translate into less energy being pumped into the grid, and therefore will not reduce emissions. Moreover, during Earth Hour, any significant drop in electricity demand will entail a reduction in CO2 emissions during the hour, but it will be offset by the surge from firing up coal or gas stations to restore electricity supplies afterwards.

And the cozy candles that many participants will light, which seem so natural and environmentally friendly, are still fossil fuels – and almost 100 times less efficient than incandescent light bulbs. Using one candle for each switched-off bulb cancels out even the theoretical CO2 reduction; using two candles means that you emit more CO2.

Let’s hear it for light!

Earth Hour 2012 in photos – presented by Sachin Tendukar’s halo

IT’S Earth Hour. Full Beam Ahead! Before the photos a few words from this year’s sponsor Sachin Tendukar?

I give my best to cricket and if, through this medium, I am able to raise awareness on the impact of climate change, then I would very much like to use this opportunity to reach out to my fans and ignite the fire in them to strive towards a better planet.

Greens Watch Telly For Earth Hour: Australian Warmits Beyond Parody

EARTH Hour was great. In London, warmists warmed themselves by forming themselves into gangs, running about, burning wheelie bins and getting into police vans. In Australia, the Mean Greens watched telly:

The Greens were true to the environment this particular evening. At 8:30 the organisers dutifully turned off the lights for Earth Hour, though the TVs stayed on so everyone could still watch the election coverage. Soon it was clear that the Greens did well but perhaps not well enough.

Earth Hour 2011: The Electricity Fast Makes Us Love Power

EARTH hour is almost upon us. This is that time of year when the Green Shirts command you to turn off your lights for one hour for Gaia.

As you sit in the darkness and let the electricity fast re-establish you love of power, tune into the sounds of Mother Nature coming from ChicagoGreenGirl’s pad:

Declare it spa night and use it as an opportunity to make your home into the zen place you wish it always was by lighting lots of candles. Take it up a notch by playing some Enya CDs …

Scotland Backs Earth Hour: Invests Billions In Wax

GOOD news for fans of the Dark Ages is that the Scottish parliament’s party leaders are backing Earth Hour on March 26. Tavish Scott MSP, Alex Salmond MSP, Iain Gray MSP, Annabel Goldie MSP and Patrick Harvie MSP all agree that running off all electronic stuff for an hour is great for Gaia. It is a global display of climate action.

It is also a global display for the rejection of progress and light. Come into the darkness, say the Greens. A love of hard won freedoms and marvellous technology is not having your light turned off because others tell you to.

Earth Hour: Canadian Environment Minister’s Cat Catches Fire

EARTH Hour in Canada and heat and light is being provided by a Canadian minister’s cat, which is, helpfully, on fire. B.C. environment minister Barry Penner says Ranger the cat is ablaze.

Penner kept the lights off and put out the light. But that smell:

“We thought about using the fan but we couldn’t do it,” said Penner. They opted instead to open windows to air out the house without using any electricity.

And Gaia breathes in…

Those Earth Hour Power Usage Charts Make For Powerful Reading

EARTH Hour was great. The Dark Ages are the future. But what did the Hour of No Power mean in terms of power usage in the UK?

Says Richard North:

There is absolutely no discernible difference … World Wildlife Failure (WWF) and its pointless gesture of turning off the lights for an hour. But at least is was a success in North Korea.

Lights On For Earth Hour, With James Delingpole And Damian Thompson

EARTH Hour looms and with a chance to go back to the Dark Ages. But a shinign light of hope emerges in th from of James Delingpole’s keyboard and Damian Thompson corner shop:

Do you see the light?

I need YOUR pledge NOW for the most important campaign in the history of the planet!

I refer, of course to LIGHTS ON – the vital protest being co-ordinated by my colleague Damian Thompson in response to the hideous annual exercise of eco-fascist triumphalism sometimes known as Earth Hour.

All Damian is asking us to do is that we screw up our courage, bump up our electricity bills and make damn sure we keep every single one of the lights in our home blazing between 8.30 and 9.30pm on Saturday March 27.

Lily Allen Shows Earth Hour Ed Miliband Her Underwear

7616415EARTH Hour meant Big Ben and the Houses of Paliament had to be plunged into the Dark Ages.

Earth Hour is shaping up to be an impressive symbolic response to our planet in peril,” said the climate change secretary, Ed Miliband, who is supporting the event. “Popular pressure like this will leave little doubt around the negotiating table in Copenhagen this December that a meaningful global carbon deal must be delivered. Making us all more aware of the energy we use is a critical first step in making lasting changes to our lifestyles.”

Right on, Ed.

Earth Hour Causes Global Warming

EARTH Hour countdown:

When asked to extinguish electricity, people turn to candlelight. Candles seem natural, but are almost 100 times less efficient than incandescent light globes, and more than 300 times less efficient than fluorescent lights. If you use one candle for each extinguished globe, you’re essentially not cutting CO2 at all, and with two candles you’ll emit more CO2. Moreover, candles produce indoor air pollution 10 to 100 times the level of pollution caused by all cars, industry and electricity production.

Earth Hour Is Cancelled

And take care where you hold the flame – water is precious and we don’t want to get those gas-guzzling fire trucks out, so we.

Of course it’s not what we can do for Earth Hour, but what Earth Hour will do for us, mankind.

The Toronto Star has a round-up pof Blitz-themed eventsm with Patty Winsa, Gaia Girl.
