Expelled student Joseph Corlett’s sexually suggestive story for teacher Pamela Mitzelfeld

PAMELA Mitzelfeld, the teacher, was the subject of student Joseph Corlett’s writing and rhetoric assignment. Corlett, a 56-year-old student at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, wrote about Mizelfeld, 49, in a thesis based on the 1984 song Hot for Teacher by rock band Van Halen.

Corlett was expelled. He was told to get counselling. Says he to ABC News:

“The real issue is the First Amendment. It’s about academic freedom and about due process. I asked her on multiple occasions if there were topical restrictions on the day books – and on every occasion she told me no.”

Corlett was, reportedly, told to keep a journal. He wrote to Pamela Mitzelfeld directly:

“I’m going to write honestly here with no apology. I hope you like me and aren’t offended but I’m paying you to kick my ass into becoming a better writer. As long as we view our student/teacher relationship as patient/doctor I think we’ll be fine. Perhaps confessor/priest?”
