FAIL: BBC article on bad spelling includes spelling error
THE BBC laments the “Poor spelling of ‘auto-correct generation'”, revealing the horror of a nation that has become reliant on technology to auto-correct text. We can no longer spell. The article is based on a survey conducted by vested interest group Mencap to promote its Spellathon Championships. Whilst Mencap just makes up words – spellathon? – to ensure its spelling is correct, the BBC tells us:
Ian McNeilly, director of the Natioanl Association for the Teaching of English, said: “I think it’s an easy, knee-jerk reaction – though an entirely understandable one – to blame technology for perceived declines in a whole variety of areas.

DOUGLAS Shane Southard, 21, of Hickory, North Carolina, is accused of being drunk when he drove his red 1989 Chevrolet Camaro into a mobile Breath Alcohol Testing lab at a DWI checkpoint.
Says Maj. Kevin Yarborough of the Newton Police Department:

THE advert for French glasses firm Essilor invites Hell’s Angels to try to beat the crap out of its customers. The slogan reads: “Hell’s Angels Are Pussies.”
The ad agency behind this then sends out an email:

Blue Invent Turd Pop With Inevitable Eurovision Failure!
BLUE are impressively awful. They make music for people who clearly don’t own a rudimentary ear or functioning brain cell. And making up the numbers in the band are Lee ‘Doesn’t Care About The Victims Of 911’ Ryan, Duncan ‘Looks Like A Dummy In The Window Of Next’ James, Simon ‘A Thing To Occupy Some Shoes’ Webb and, last and by no means least, Anthony ‘Likes Having A Piss On Cash Machines’ Costa.
And these reprobates are leading the charge into Europe like the most ineffectual army the world has ever known, as they stake a claim to be slightly more popular than a singing funeral director from Moldova or whatever they’re entering into this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
So dislikeable are the boys from Blue, that we’re are absolutely guaranteed to make the rest of Europe hate us so much that they might actually declare war against us or, indeed, ask us as a nation, to never make another sound for the rest of eternity.
