Transfer Balls: Gareth Bale is not dead to Spurs and AVB is in denial

THE Daily Bale: what news of the Spurs star man in today’s papers?

The Daily Star leads with an “exclusive”:

“BALE IN DEATH THREAT CHILLER”

qcPbGbh

Sounds serious:

The chilling message came in a telephone call to the Spurs training ground in Enfield, Middlesex, on Sunday around tea-time.

Did Bale pick up the phone?

Sources close to Bale have confirmed the threat was brief, and has been taken seriously.

At least it has been by the Daily Star.

The Wales star was not at the training ground when the call was made but it is understood security has been stepped up in the light of it.

So. An idiot made a crank call to the Spurs switchboard.

And Bale did turn up later:

Despite claims that Bale – who is becoming increasingly angry at his £105m move to the Bernabeu being blocked by chairman Daniel Levy – was ready to shun training this week, he did turn up yesterday.

On that £105m move, the Indy reports:

Transfer news: Tottenham insist Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata must be included in £87m deal for Gareth Bale

Bale’s a lot cheaper in the Indy.

And in any case, Bale’s not for sale. As the Express reports:

Andre Villas-Boas insists the only talks between Tottenham and Real Madrid regarding Gareth Bale have been to tell the Spanish club he is not for sale.

And the Guardian:

“I think the rumours that anything is imminent are not true,” the Spurs manager said. “We’ve allowed ourselves conversations with Real Madrid, confirmed by their coach, I think, wrongly, but the only thing we’ve communicated is that the player is our player and not for sale.”

Back to the Indy, then:

Negotiations between Tottenham and Real Madrid over the sale of Gareth Bale have been stepped up in the past 24 hours, but with Spurs insisting on the inclusion of Spain’s Under-21 international Alvaro Morata in the proposed £87m transfer.

Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has made it clear in opening discussions with the Madrid board that he wants the highly rated striker included in the deal.

Looks like AVB is wrong. Unless you read the Huff Post:

Now Spurs will hold no further talks with Madrid until they increase their £80m/£83.6m/depending-on-which-paper-you-read’s-figure forGareth Bale, say the Telegraph.

H;s getting cheaper. And, once again, back in the Indy:

A meeting between Levy and Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, is scheduled for this week in Florida.

In other news, Bale is no longer on Spurs’ Twitter page:

The image of Bale celebrating was being used as the background on the @SpursOfficial site.

Kyle Walker, Jan Vetonghen and now-departed Clint Dempsey also featured – but now Bale and Dempsey have been replaced by Moussa Dembele and Aaron Lennon.

All of whom, like Bale, are not for sale…

Transfer Balls: Spurs chairman Daniel Levy cuts short holiday to shun Gareth Bale

THE Daily Bale, in association with Transfer Balls – a look at what experts in the media are saying about the Spurs star:

The Times:

Daniel Levy has refused to have talks with Gareth Bale about a supposed gentleman’s agreement that could allow the Welshman to fulfil his desire to move to Real Madrid…Levy is adamant that Bale, who has three years left on his deal, will not be sold

The Mirror:

Daniel Levy is giving Gareth Bale the silent treatment over Real Madrid’s world-record bid to sign him. The Spurs chairman is refusing “point-blank” to hold any further talks with Bale on the issue after ruling the Welshman will not be sold this summer regardless of whatever Real may offer…

Levy – set to announce the record-breaking, £26million signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia this week – is now giving Bale the cold shoulder.

Transfer Balls: Manchester United target Gareth Bale and Andre Villas-Boas head to Barcelona (so they say)

THE Daily Bale – a look at the Tottenham Hotspur star in the news media. We last featured Bale on July 14, when the Sun said Gareth Bale was off to Manchester united for a fee in excess of £75 million. This followed news that any move to Real Madrid this season was dead.

Now read on…

July 20

Marca leads with news that Los Blancos are in the process of raising funds to buy Bale. But there’s no need to bother. The Daily Star has news:

“EXCLUSIVE: Gareth Bale wants to join Manchester United”

Will they get him?

United are ready to offer £60m in an attempt to take him to Old Trafford, and Tottenham last night refused to comment on whether an official bid had been made.

The Daily Mirror says the bid has been made.

We have been told that United have an “unlimited budget” for players.

Of course, new Spurs singing Paulinho has told us Bale is going nowhere. That’s Bale, the star whose worth this summer has been pitched at £100m, £85m, £80m£70m, and £50m. Indeed, one paper told us that £100m was not enough to buy Bale.

But United have unlimited money, so here’s the bid for, erm, £60m.

Also telling us that Bale was a Spurs player for the season ahead was Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas. He said:

“The chairman said that we are not open to offers, whatever they are, and that the player will stay.”

But then he added:

“In football anything can happen, but these are the guarantees given to me.”

The Express says Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, ” is reported ready to double Bale’s wages to £150,000-a-week in a bid to keep him happy at White Hart Lane”.

And AVB has just told reporters:

“He’s not for sale at any price. No we haven’t had any conversations. It’s not irritating, I think it’s part of when the market opens. It’s normal that there is speculation everywhere.”

Such as this speculation in the Daily Mail:

Villas-Boas refused to comment on speculation linking him with the Barcelona job, instead sending his best wishes to departing coach Tito Vilanova.

No comment is still a comment:

“It’s a very difficult situation and all of my wishes are with Tito. If he has to resign for a situation of illness it’s not the moment to speak about any speculation whatsoever. It’s not even a question, we are speaking about a person’s health.”

So. AVB hasn’t ruled it out. And, as he told us, there are no guarantees in football – anything can happen. AVB is no fool. He never did get Spurs into the Champions’ League. One more failure and his stock will fall.

But AVB is highly rated by Bale who tells the Evening Standard:

“We [Bale and Villas-Boas] have a great relationship. Last season we had a great campaign and obviously we came up short but we had a great working relationship on and off the field.

“We chatted quite a lot about tactics and stuff like that. He definitely got the best out of me last season and hopefully can again.”

Bale and AVB’s careers seem to be linked.

Look out for news telling us Bale and AVB are off to is Barcelona very soon…

Transfer Balls: Gareth Bale gets his free Real Madrid shirt from a new Chelsea fan

bale real madrid

TRANSFER Balls and the Daily Bale: Having heard Real Madrid call off their hackneyed pursuit of Spurs star Gareth Bale, the Mirror leads with:

“Madrid –  Come in Bale No.11”

The story is that Real “stepped up their attempt to land Bale by mocking up next season’s shirt with his name and favourite number on the back”.

Real are gunning for the award of ‘Saddest club in world football’ (previously held by Barcelona). Real are like Henry the ardent New Chelsea fan peeking over his half-time hamper to tell his daddy he wants a Manchester United top  because mummy says he looks ‘very smart’ in red. Real are Violet Elizabeth Bott without the subtlety and charm.

The Express adds:

Real have worked out their squad numbers for the coming season, and have left Bale’s favoured number 11 vacant as they plan to lure the Welshman to the Bernabeu.

Earlier in the week, we were told that Bale dressed in his new Spurs kit was a surefire “hint” that he would stay in London. The Guardian said it was “the clearest indication yet he will stay at Tottenham”.

The Express also notes that Bale’s been wearing the Spurs kit in New York:

Bale has found himself at the centre of New York, used as the centrepiece of NBC’s promotion campaign advertising English football’s top-flight.

The billboard will come as another boost to Spurs fans, with the North-London club increasingly sure of keeping the Welshman this summer.

Billboards are never wrong, Spurs fans. Rest easy.

In other Bale Balls, the Guardian has the stellar news that “Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale says he is looking to improve as a player in 2013-14”.

This is a view shared by pretty much every sportsman and woman in the world. Getting better is what you have to aim for.

The last word in today’s news is in the Metro:

Gareth Bale’s flirtations with Real Madrid are understandable, says Benoit Assou-Ekotto

Says the Spurs defender:

“If Tottenham want to have a future and start to be regular in the top four, Tottenham need to keep him… I can understand [why he might want to leave]. Real Madrid are not a small club and people know that even if they support Tottenham at 200 per cent.’

Adding

“It’s good to play with him because sometimes this season we didn’t have the solution to win and he saved us many times. He was like a hero and it was cool because sometimes we would say “Oh how will we win this game?” and we gave the ball to Gareth…”

So. Bale’s the best player at a club with no ideas. And remind us why Paris wanted AVB as their manager..?

Spurs’ Gareth Bale taught Liverpool’s Luis Suarez everything he knows about moving to Real Madrid

PA-16773775

TRANSFER balls: the Sun has a Luis Suarez scoop worthy of its back-page. Readers learn that the man portrayed as the archetypal underhand foreigner – he does things that no British gentleman would ever do (unless you’re Jermain Defoe, Gareth Bale or, as is alleged, John Terry) – has “admitted” why he wants to leave Liverpool.

It turns out that it’s not because the Press misquote him to make him appear traitorous and “amoral“. It is not because the FA banned him for ten matches for biting. Suarez failed to do the decent British thing. Had he tried to amputate Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic’s legs things would have been fine and honourable. ( Britisher Callum McManaman escaped a ban for a “horror tackle” on Newcastle’s Massadio Haidara).

Gareth Bale Balls: Spurs make Bale an offer he can’t refuse

Spurs fans can thank Daniel Levy for keeping Garth Bale

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s look at the Spurs star in the news.

And the news is that Bale is staying at Tottenham. He won’t play for Real Madrid. At least not this coming season.

The Express say Spurs fan can thank the club’s Chairman Daniel Levy:

Madrid appear to have been guided to their conclusion by Bale’s reluctant agent Jonathan Barnett.

He will have made it clear to them that some of the shenanigans that have accompanied other transfer coups in the past – sulking, refusing to play, handing in transfer requests – are just not part of the Bale repertoire.

It has not been for want of trying on Barnett’s part though.

At the end of May he made an inflammatory appearance on Marca TV in which he said it would be “an honour” if Real Madrid made a bid and insisted they would “listen”

Transfer Balls: Spurs’ Gareth Bale hums Zadok the Priest as he heads to Manchester United

bale yid

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s look at the Tottenham Hotspur star in the news. Today’s Transfer Balls:

July 2:

Belfast Telegraph: “Manchester United manager David Moyes told: Go and buy Gareth Bale”

Manchester United told David Moyes yesterday that he can break the British transfer record this summer if he so desires.

The club’s American owners are happy to show they mean business by backing the new manager with a ‘marquee signing’ before the transfer window closes.

And for Moyes, that means carte blanche to land Welsh wing wizard Gareth Bale, even if it means having to spend an eye-watering £60m on the Spurs player.

Gareth Bale ‘signs new contract’ at Spurs as his agent ‘talks to Real Madrid’

File photo dated 14/02/2013 of Tottenham Hotspur's Gareth Bale celebrating scoring.

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s look at the Tottenham Hotspur star in the football transfer gossip mill. Having heard Spurs coach Andre Villas-Boas state that Bale not leaving the club, today we get news that he is. Well, maybe.

TalkSport says Bale is heading to Real Madrid and Angel di Maria is heading in the opposite direction with lots of cash.

The GiveMeSport site says that’s great news. It says that with new signings, Spurs can improve. Bale is old news. Well, not quote. The Real Madrid spokesperson is talking about him:

“We are on it. The president is excited to bring him [Bale] to Madrid. The new Real Madrid coach Ancelotti also voted his support in the favour of signing the North London sensation by claiming that: ‘If we can bring him here, it would be very good.'”

Or as Ancelotti actually said:

“We’ve not spoken of signings because today is the first day I am here. I cannot give any information on the players who might come in or those who will leave. The squad is very good. In the next few days we will talk with the club about what we need. It has a lot of young players from the youth set-up. That’s good. Having youth products is good because they have ambition and enthusiasm.”

This blog adds:

Despite the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy slapping a 100 million euro price tag on Gareth Bale…

When did he do that? All we know of Levy is that he, apparently,  told AVB that Bale is staying put. AVB told media in Portugal:

“The chairman said that we are not open to offers, whatever they are, and that the player will stay.”

Or as the Daily Mirror puts it:

Spaniards hope a players plus cash offer will make Daniel Levy take his fingers out of his ears and stop saying ‘Na, na, na!’

What do Spurs get for Madrid tapping up their player?

Argentina winger Angel Di Maria is among several stars that the Spanish giants are willing to hand over to the White Hart Lane club with in order to land the Premier League’s Player of the Year.

But better than that, the Times says Real are offering Spurs cash and Gonzalo Higuain. That’s he player the Sun has alreayd dubbed ‘Gunnzalo‘ on account of his impending move to Arsenal.

The Express says such things were discussed when the Welshman’s reportedly met Bernabeu officials in  Madrid lest week.

Finally, the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, Gareth Bale has signed a new contract with Tottenham“.

Gareth Bale could be sold, says Spurs manager Andre Villa-Boas

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s look at the Tottenham Hotspur star in the news:

The Mirror quotes Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas’s words to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

“The chairman said that we are not open to offers, whatever they are, and that the player will stay.”

But:

“In football anything can happen, but these are the guarantees given to me.”

How’s that for blind faith?

Spurs: Gareth Bale grabs the tissues and heads for the Tottenham departure gate

TRANSFER Balls with The Daily Bale – a looks at Tottenham Hotspur in the news:

Is Andre Villas-Boas heading off to Paris Saint-Germain, after all?

The French club made a bid for the Spurs manager but it was rejected. The GiveMeSport site says AVB is freindly with the PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi:

I have had a friendship for some time with the president of PSG,” Villas-Boas told A Bola“He is a friend and we speak regularly, but my commitment is with Tottenham. It was the club that allowed me to return to the Premier League and I feel good there.”

All good, then. But what of Gareth Bale? Marca says the Welshman is on his way to Real Madrid:

Bale is confident of move to Real

Gareth Bale is convinced Real Madrid will be making a move to try and sign him at some stage this summer and although he is not losing his patience he is currently awaiting further instructions.

That scoop contains not a single word from Bale. Marca knows he’s convinced becuse Marca can read Bale’s mind.

But the Metro says Bale wants out.

Gareth Bale to use ‘nice guy’ approach to convince Spurs of Real Madrid transfer

Gareth Bale will tug on the heart strings of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in order to clinch his dream move to Real Madrid, according to reports.

Reports in..?

Spanish newspaper Marca claim the Welshman will not put any pressure on Spurs, and will instead rely on the two clubs reaching an amicable agreement after he makes his sporting case to chairman Levy.

Is Marca the Real Madrid in-house journal?

The Daily Star believes what it reads, announcing:

GARETH BALE WILL TELL SPURS: I WANT TO GO

GARETH BALE will hold a meeting with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and tell him he wants to join Real Madrid.

Says…

According to Spanish newspaper Marca – the number one sportnewspaper in the country – Bale is set to express to Levy his desire to leave when the pair meet for talks.

After so much bilge, other reports are thatTottenham are set to open talks with Aston Villa over a possible £20 million deal for Christian Benteke” and signing the Brazilian Paulinho.

But wait! The Mail has breaking news on Bale:

Gareth Bale’s future at Tottenham is, as yet, still undecided and apparently the Welsh wizard is not certain about his favourite holiday destination either. In a short video for SpursTV Online, Bale and a number of his Tottenham team-mates were quizzed about their favourite place for a holiday. Unlike Clint Dempsey, Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen, though, Bale was keeping his cards close to his chest as he refused to name a place.

Call it a hunch but maybe Bale didn’t want the press following him to the holiday haunch and ruining his break? But to the Mail it is sing that Bale likes the spend the summer in the unbearable heat of the Spanish capital:

With Real Madrid’s very public interest in Tottenham’s talisman, the tight-lipped Bale was wise not to answer with ‘Spain’.

Such are the facts.

More Talking Balls every day….

Gareth Bale stays at Spurs as Real Madrid president arrives on London shopping trip

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s looks at the Tottenham Hotspur star in the news. Today’s transfer balls:

Marca: “Villas-Boas: ‘Bale isn’t leaving Spurs'”

Fact! Or:

Tottenham is playing hardball. The club responded calmly but firmly to Real Madrid’s interest in Gareth Bale, stating that there is nothing to talk about and that the Welshman is staying in London. The English club’s manager, André Villas-Boas has no doubts about his young player’s future. “Bale isn’t leaving Spurs”, the Portuguese said.

Says Villas-Boas:

“The chairman has pledged that Bale isn’t leaving the club.”

Unless AVB goes, which he isn’t:

The other reason for Tottenham’s refusal to sell Bale is in Paris. The Tottenham chairman stopped a possible Villas-Boas move to PSG, guaranteeing the manager that he will have a stronger team next season built around Gareth Bale.

So. Bales stays. And it gets better for Spurs fans:

Metro: “Spurs promise Andre Villas-Boas £50m in transfer funds after he snubbed PSG”

Spurs will part-finance any moves by selling off fringe first-team players, with 10 names having already been told they can go. But the rest will come from Levy’s pocket, with the club keen to reward their young manager for his loyalty to the cause.

Or not.

As Levy said in 2011:

“I wish to make it absolutely clear, as I have said previously, that none of our key players will be sold this summer. We are building a team for the future to consistently play at the highest level and retaining quality players is crucial to that.

“In respect of Luka Modric, we are not prepared to sell, at any price, to Chelsea Football Club or any other club…

“For the avoidance of any doubt, let me reiterate that we shall not enter into any negotiations whatsoever, with any club, regarding Luka. We now consider this matter closed.”

One year later, Modric left for Real Madrid.

In 2007, Levy said of Manchester United’s interest in Dimitar Berbatov:

“Once again for the record, we are not a selling club, rather we are building for the future. When we have players on long contracts we have no need to entertain offers.”

In 2008, Berbatov joined Manchester United.

IBN: “Real Madrid aim to unveil Gareth Bale, Isco in July”

Real Madrid could make an official offer of £65m for Bale

Bales was worth £85 million yesterday. What did he do wrong?

Does the Daily Mirror know?

Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez has jetted to London as the Spanish giants continue their pursuit of Spurs’ Gareth Bale.

Although Perez insists the trip is purely to do with his own personal business interests, he is trying to set up talks with Tottenham.

Real are determined to land the Welsh flier and are ready to pay Spurs up to £80million for him.

Such are the facts…

The Daily (Gareth) Bale: the secrets of Spurs’ special partnership with Real Madrid

Soccer - Gareth Bale Handout Photo...Undated handout photo dated of Tottenham Hotspur's midfielder and Welsh international Gareth Bale visiting Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Florida. PRESS ASSOCIATION Photo. Issue date: Wednesday June 12, 2013. Photo credit should read: Busch Gardens Tampa/PA Wire. NOTE TO EDITORS: This handout photo may only be used in for editorial reporting purposes for the contemporaneous illustration of events, things or the people in the image or facts mentioned in the caption. Reuse of the picture may require further permission from the copyright holder.

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s daily look at the Tottenham, Hotspur player in the news. Today’s speculation filling newspaper space:

Daily Mail: “Modric joined Real Madrid last summer and now Bale could follow. So, just what have Spurs got back from their special partnership with the Spanish giants?”

£33m in money?

But true enough, on August 27, 2012, Spurs announced:

CLUB ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH REAL MADRID AND TRANSFER OF LUKA MODRIC

The Club can announce that it has signed a partnership agreement with Real Madrid FC and reached agreement for the transfer of Luka Modric, subject to medical, to the Spanish club.
The partnership agreement will see the two Clubs working together in respect of players, coaching, best practices and commercial relationships.

Real Madrid FC President, Florentino Perez Rodriguez, said, “The strong relationship and affinity between our two clubs has resulted in the cementing of a longer-term partnership and the successful transfer of Luka Modric. We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years.”

Daniel Levy, Chairman, Tottenham Hotspur, commented, “Luka has been a terrific player for us and, whilst we preferred not to part with him, we are pleased that it is to Real Madrid, a club with which we now look forward to sharing a long and productive partnership.”

Pete Jenson’s  offers Mail readers his “view from Madrid”:

Levy doesn’t like to sell in the Premier League, so every time he has a big star to offload he makes sure Madrid are up to speed with any bids coming in.

Number of firm bids so far: none. Number of time Madrid have tried to tap up Bale: two.

B ut the most fanciful story must be this one from Mid-Day:

PSG offering to buy Gareth Bale in 85mln pounds deal to lure Villas-Boas

PSG will create a new world record transfer just to get Villas-Boas, who has a £10m release clause in his Tottenham contract?

More Garth Bale madness every day.

Gareth Bale: ‘stupid’ Spurs star signs for Manchester City

Southampton's Gareth Bale celebrates after scoring against Derby County during the Coca-Cola Championship match at Pride Park, Derby.

THE Daily Bale: Anorak’s daily look at the Tottenham Hotspur player in the news:

The Sports Mole: “Terry Gibson: ‘Gareth Bale would regret not moving to Real Madrid'”

Former Spurs player Gibson told talkSPORT:

“You know what can happen in football. Currently he’s hot at the moment but in a year’s time it may be through injury that his season isn’t successful. It could be a series of niggling injuries and then Real Madrid go away and for the rest of your life and career you’re left thinking ‘Should have I gone to Real Madrid?’

“If he went to Real Madrid he would be a hit. It’s a massive call.”

Bale should go to Real because it’s better to be injured in Madrid than London? Inspiring stuff.
