Experts says 50-1 all humans are dead by 2100

THE expert foresees: Defence Force chief Admiral Chris Barrie says of Australia’s Climate Commission report:

“There’s a one in two chance that by 2100 there’ll be no human beings left on this planet. The planet will exist, but it’s just that my granddaughter won’t be part of it. And I think that’s a pretty alarming statistic, probability, one in two chance if we don’t correct our behaviours.”

In 1981 technology stopped the ‘Arctic region becoming equatorial and the tropics suddenly changed to polar temperature’

IN 1881, the London St James’s Gazette reported on the end of life on Earth. The news was picked up by Australia’s Bendigo Advertiser:

STARTLING THEORY.

The London St James’s Gazette writes :—

” This planet, it seems, is threatened with serious changes by the extension of the telegraphic system. A timely note of warning to this effect is given by one of the American papers. Polarity, it observes, depends upon a current of electricity passing at right angles to the direction of the poles. The polarity of the earth depends upon the electric or heat currents of the sun, and it is highly probable that the earth’s inclination to the ecliptic is governed by its polarity. If, therefore, there were instantly established sufficient electrical connection by wires around the earth, with the earth itself, to instantly equalize the current and produce a complete reduction of all electrical excitement, what would be the effect on the polarity, and secondly on the inclination to the ecliptic ? May there not be a sudden change of polarities — the Arctic region becoming equatorial, and the tropics suddenly changed to polar temperature? The sudden melting of the vast ice fields would produce another glacial flood ; the present race would disappear, and the man of the quaternary would begin life ever again at the antipodes. All this is to be accomplished by the continuation of complete circuits for telegraphing around the globe. Of course tremendous earthquakes would follow, as the polar diameter is twenty-six miles too short and the equatorial twenty-six miles too long. Whether this theory prove correct or not, there cannot be a doubt that something has of late gone wrong with atmospherical arrangements, and perhaps the telegraph wires are not wholly blameless in the matter.”

Global warming will force more women into prostitution

hot sex

I AGREE that global warming is a real problem, that it’s one we might want to do something about as well. But that doesn’t stop people from taking the arguments in favour of doing something a little too far. Like this recent bill introduced into the US Congress. Apparently we should fight global warming because more women will become prostitutes:

A group of American politicians has introduced a resolution into Congress saying that climate change (among many other bad things it does) forces women into prostitution, and that as a result the USA should use “gender sensitive frameworks” in battling the scourge of global warming.

Whereas women will disproportionately face harmful impacts from climate change …

… insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health …

Ski bores turn to golf as slopes turn green

IS it snowing? In 2000, The Independent’s expert told us: ““Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past.”

“Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past”

The New York Times continues to be worried about those expensive winter pursuits:

Rising Temperatures Threaten Fundamental Change for Ski Slopes Whether this winter turns out to be warm or cold, scientists say that climate change means the long-term outlook for skiers everywhere is bleak. The threat of global warming hangs over almost every resort, from Sugarloaf in Maine to Squaw Valley in California. As temperatures rise, analysts predict that scores of the nation’s ski centers, especially those at lower elevations and latitudes, will eventually vanish. Under certain warming forecasts, more than half of the 103 ski resorts in the Northeast will not be able to maintain a 100-day season by 2039, according to a study to be published next year by Daniel Scott, director of the Interdisciplinary Center on Climate Change at the University of Waterloo in Ontario.

Daily Mail proves that Global Warming is a thing of the past, which is nice

THE Earth is no longer going to drown under the weight of melted poles according to the Daily Mail (although, Poles are still obviously a massive threat to the very fabric of some imagined Britishness), which is wonderful news for us all! We can now drive our cars and leave our TVs on standby without fear of making our gill-less children die in a human-imposed watery grave!

The glory of green energy: only three years until the lights go out

WELL isn’t this an interesting how d’ye do then?  It would appear that we’ve a more than just minor chance of the lights going out in about three years’ time:

The UK risks energy shortages by 2015 or 2016, energy regulator Ofgem has predicted. The shortages will primarily be caused by EU environmental legislation forcing the early closure of coal and oil-fired power stations, it said.

Its first annual Capacity Assessment [93-page / 1.9MB PDF] projects that electricity margins, or the amount of spare generation capacity on the system, could fall from 14 per cent today to 4 per cent over the next three years. The figures are based on joint modelling by the regulator and the National Grid. Ofgem is required under the Energy Act to report annually to Parliament on the availability of electricity and gas for meeting the reasonable demands of consumers in the UK.

Brighton’s Green mayor pays £70 taxi fare when electric car fails

“WE’RE happy with the performance of the electric car so far. Early indications suggest it works well around the city and may be making savings for us in fuel costs,” says Brighton and Hove mayor Bill Randall, a leading Green.
Mr Randall was referring to the electric Renault Fluence ZE he’s been road testing. As he said:
“I think it sends out a good message…This is great news, not just for the environment, but for the taxpayer too as the electric car won’t cost them a penny.”

Plants lap up carbon dioxide in record levels – carbon tax is a scam

IN Australia, taxpayers pay for producing carbon. In the UK, plans are afoot for a unilateral carbon tax. Only, plants love the stuff. In fact, plants are lapping it up, reversing any effect of global warming:

The earth would have warmed faster in the last two decades had there not been an unexplained rise in the amount of carbon dioxide being absorbed on land, scientists believe.

Scientists have discovered an “abrupt increase’’ since 1988 in the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) by the land biosphere, which comprises all of the planet’s plant and animal ecosystems.

Wellington-based scientist Dr Sara Mikaloff-Fletcher, from the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, was part of the global research team investigating the distribution of CO2 emissions.

Ms Mikaloff-Fletcher said … “We were completely taken by surprise (by the findings). It’s opened up a whole new series of questions.’’

So. Why are you being taxed, then..?

Global warming creates durable hybrid sharks

ON the look out for things that can be attributed to climate change, the Perth Now spots globally warmed mutation sharks:

Scientists have found the world’s first hybrid sharks in Australian waters …

The predators are a cross between the common blacktip shark and Australian blacktip shark, two related but genetically distinct species.

The scientists say interbreeding between the two shark species is a sign the animals are adapting to climate change.

They also warn that hybridisation could make the sharks stronger.

Climate Change Makes Heroin Stronger

DID you know that cliamte change has made heroin more potent?

Scienceline, New York University’s environmental reporting programme, says researchers have found that poppies grown today produce twice as many alkaloids — chemical compounds such as morphine (which can be used to make heroin) — as they did in 1950. Based on those growth levels, scientists expect the morphine levels in poppies could triple by 2050 and increase by 4.5 times by 2090.

George Monbiot’s Plan to Kill Economic Growth

WE get George Monbiot’s plan in his column in The Guardian today. And a very good plan it is too.

So Jackson has begun developing a macroeconomic model which would allow economic output to be stabilised. He experiments with raising the ratio of investment to consumption, changing the nature and conditions of investment and shifting the balance from private to public spending, while staying within tight constraints on the use of resources. He finds that the redistribution of both income and employment (through shorter working hours) is essential to the project. So is re-regulation of the banks, enhanced taxation of resources and pollution and measures to discourage manic consumption, such as tighter restrictions on advertising.His system is not wholly different to today’s: people will still spend and save, companies will still produce goods and services, governments will still raise taxes and spend money. It requires more government intervention than we’re used to;

No, I don’t mean excellent in the sense of desirable, I mean excellent in the sense that it will do just as George wants, kill economic growth stone dead.

How The News Media Distorts The Global Warming Debate: The Norfolk Drought Is Natural

DOES the news media distort the debate on global warming? Yes. That drought in the East of England is natural. It’s the weather, stoopid. The New Scientist sums up:

ADD one more to the list: after the driest spring in more than 20 years, parts of eastern England are officially in a state of drought, according to the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. This comes hard on the heels of some of the worst droughts on record across the globe, from Texas toChina.

While global warming is an obvious suspect, there’s no evidence that it is to blame…

Global Warming, Israel And Obama Triggered Joplin Tornado: Science Says So

GLOBAL warming, Israel and Barack Obams cause tornadoes in the USA, like the one that hit Joplin, Missouri. Pick your prejudice and make your case. Richard Bartholomew notes:

Boing Boing‘s science editor Maggie Koerth-Baker ponders recent tornadoes in the USA:

In just five months, the United States has experienced more tornadoes than we often get in an entire year. And far, far more people have died. 2011 is already the deadliest year for tornadoes since 1953. As of May 23rd, 498 people have been killed. That’s a big jump from normal. I was born in 1981. In my entire lifetime, annual tornado deaths in the United States have only broken the 100-person mark three other years–1984, 1998, and 2008. Clearly, there is something different about this year. …The big question–Are tornadoes caused by climate change?–is made up of lots of little questions. And we don’t know all the answers to the little questions yet.

…The future of human life depends on how we respond to the risks of climate change. How we respond to those risks depends on how well the general public understands the messy world of real science.

It’s Not Snow: It’s Gaia’s Dandruff To Reflect The Sun

BRRRR! It’s bloody cold. In case you, kids, are unable to recognise that white stuff, it used to be called snow. Ask grandma.

As the Indy told is in 2000:

Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past

It went on:

Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.

Global Warming Is Now A Musical: First They Came For The Kids…

HAVING murdered the children, global warmists are now planning to murder music in Global Warming – the Musical. Drove my chevy to the levee
but the levee was dry…

The National Science Foundation has awarded a $700,000 grant to the Civilians, a New York theater company, to finance the production of a show about climate change. “The Great Immensity,” with a book by Steven Cosson (“This Beautiful City”) and music and lyrics by Michael Friedman (“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”), tells the story of Polly, a photojournalist who disappears while working in the rain forests of Panama. The grant is a rare gift to an arts organization from the foundation, a federal agency that pays for science, engineering and mathematics research and education.

The company says it plans to spend the money on the development and evaluation of the show, as well as on a tour and educational programs, including post-show panel discussions with experts in related scientific fields. No performance dates have been announced.

This will be the day that I dieeeeeeeee…..

Global Warming Gives You A Heart Attack Say Scientists

GLOBAL warming is the decade’s scare story. And news on the BBC is that thanks to global warming more of you are going to die of bad hearts. And you thought that Mediterranean lifestyle heading to the UK was good for you.

Michelle Roberts tells us:

Many more people will die of heart problems as global warming continues, experts are warning.

Experts in..?

Climate extremes of hot and cold will become more common and this will put strain on people’s hearts, doctors say.

Experts and now doctors? Or are the global warming experts also doctors and vicer versa

A study in the British Medical Journal found that each 1C temperature drop on a single day in the UK is linked to 200 extra heart attacks.

So, if you fly from a cold country to a hot one you will die? If you live in a north facing home and then sit in the back garden you will die? What about a 1C temperature rise on a single day?

Polar Bears All Die As Black Bear Gets Shot From Tree

POLAR Bear Watch: Well, keep watching because those polies are all giong to die. The BBC condemns them (seals rejoice!):

Climate change will trigger a dramatic and sudden decline in the number of polar bears, a new study has concluded.

The research is the first to directly model how changing climate will affect polar bear reproduction and survival.

Based on what is known of polar bear physiology, behaviour and ecology, it predicts pregnancy rates will fall and fewer bears will survive fasting during longer ice-free seasons.

These changes will happen suddenly as bears pass a ‘tipping point’.

We predict a rapid return to a media focus on shagging panda bears. The pandas used to have it all their own way before the polies came… Meanwhile, over in a tree, black bear is doing his bit for his kind:

Is Global Warming To Blame For Falling Sea Levels Around Fiji?

THE sea is rising, right?

Rob Young and Orrin Pilkey state:

The message for the world’s leaders and decision makers is that sea level rise is real and is only going to get worse.

In Fiji, meanwhile:

During the past few weeks, the Fiji Meteorological Service has been alerted to abnormally low sea levels in Rotuma. This is after sea creatures were marooned on coral reefs.

Such are the facts…

James Cameron’s Wind-Up Avatar DVD With Stephen Lang

KING of wind-powered electronic arts James Cameron releases his DVD of Avatar, the too-long blue-in-the-face, 3D enviro-flick.

Before we get to Cameron’s latest quotes on global warming, note this explanation for being a man who burns tons of fossil fuels getting his green message to the masses. And, no, it’s not a plan to use up all the oil as fast as possible so we have to confront the inconvenient truth:

So how do I cancel the paradox? To me its not paradoxical – its not even meant to be ironic. For me, film is a technical medium. And you can use a technical medium to celebrate something that is purely natural. I think you can use the most cutting edge technology available – which we did, to basically celebrate the inventiveness of nature – which we did.

We are nature. We can invent. We are beyond parody. David Chen, who interviews Cameron, is faced with the biggest, most successful director of this age. He responds to that bit of self-serving nonsense with understandable reserve:

Chen: That makes sense. So I guess your use of technology in movie making is one of the good uses, you’d say.

Cameron: I would look at it that way, yes. We’re the good guys.
