PHILIPPE Croizon has only gone and swam the English Channel. This is remarkable because M. Criozon has no legs and only very short arms, minus the hands.

While the Daily Express begins an expose on fears that amputee Romanians plan to swim to Britain en masse and claim every kind of income benefit, we salute M. Croizon. The 42-year-old swam from Folkestone to Cap Gris Nez the in 13.5 hours.

M. Croizon lost four limps (most of his arms, for you pedants) when he suffered a severe electric shock while removing a television aerial from a roof in 1996.

French limbless swimmer Philippe Croizon is helped into the sea by team member Valerie Carbonnel during a training session in Folkestone, Kent, before his attempt later this week to become the first limbless person to swim the Channel from Folkestone to France a distance of 21 miles.
