Islam’s Problem: Ben Affleck Misses The Forest For The Trees

Andrew Sullivan:

There’s been so much going on I let this one pass. But since you ask, I think it’s pretty indisputable that any religion that can manifest itself in the form of something like ISIS in any period in history is in a very bad way. I know they’re outliers – even with respect to al Qaeda. But, leaving these mass murderers and sadists to one side, any religion that still cannot allow its own texts to be subject to scholarly and historical inquiry, any religion that denies in so many parts of the world any true opportunities for women, and any religion whose followers believe apostasy should be punished with death is in a terrible, terrible way. There is so much more to Islam than this – but this tendency is so widespread, and its fundamentalism so hard to budge, and the destruction wrought by its violent extremists so appalling that I find Affleck’s and Aslan’s defenses to be missing the forest for the trees.

Invading Mexican Muslims Pray On Football Shirts Along Texas Border

adidas

A MUSLIM prayer rug has been found on the Mexixo-Texas border. Fears are that it was trying to sneak into the USA, possibly hoping it would be mistaken for a picnic blanket or shawl.

Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst says it is all true: Muslim prayer rugs have been found on the border between Mexico and Texas.

And someone tell the man with the handbag to cool it:

Alton Nolen: Mark Vaughan Brought A Gun To A Knife Fight

alton nolen

GUNS in America: Vaughan Foods Chief Operating Officer Mark Vaughan, a reserve sheriff’s deputy, had a handgun about his person when Alton Nolen beheaded Vaughan employee Colleen Hufford. He shot Nolen twice.

Nolen had brought a knife to a gun fight.

Will Vaughan’s actions increase support for ‘bring gun to work’ laws?

Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis told the Associated Press that Vaughan’s decision to carry a weapon to work made a big difference in the outcome of the attack. The situation ‘could have gotten a lot worse’ if Vaughan didn’t have this gun, said Sgt. Lewis. ‘This was not going to stop if [Vaughan] didn’t stop it.’”

Islamists Earn Israel $15bn

Israel signed a memorandum of understanding with Jordan Wednesday, under which it will supply the Hashemite Kingdom with $15 billion worth of natural gas from its Leviathan energy field over 15 years …

The Jordanians turned to Israel because their supply of natural gas from Egypt had been halted by repeated terrorist attacks on the gas pipeline from Egypt, a Channel 2 report said.

Edmonton Murder: The Bearded Muslim Beheader Is Not A Muslim

THE Edmonton Garden Murder: A look at reporting on the murder of Palmira Silva allegedly by one Nicholas Salvadore.

The Mirror: “‘The bogeyman”: Edmonton machete murderer who beheaded gran alleged to be cage fighter ‘Fat Nick'”

The boygeyman? The alleged killer of 82-year-old Mrs Silva is now a figure of fantasy rather than the Sun’s “Muslim”.

Indeed, the Mirror does not mention the alleged killer’s religion once.

Nicholas Salvadore has been described by locals as “the local bogeyman” whom people would “stay away from”… Aspiring cage fighter Nicholas Salvadore, known to pals as “Fat Nick”, was tonight under armed guard in hospital having psychological tests after being held over the 82-year-old’s gruesome murder.

Canada Newspaper Advises Learning The Koran To Escape Jihadis In Your British Shopping Mall

WRITING in Canada’s National Post, Afsun Qureshi has a tip on how to survive the armed, gurning jihadi with the questions: you have to make an Islamic vow.

He recalls the 2013 al-Qaeda-linked attack at Kenya’s Westgate Mall:

To weed the Muslims out from the infidels, terrorists asked people to recite the shahadah to prove their faith. They asked other things too, like certain key passages of the Koran, the name of Mohammad’s mother, that sort of thing — it was al-Qaeda Question Hour. The wrong answer meant death.

After that, many, myself included, wondered: Should we — Muslim or not — learn the basics of Islam and have a read through the Koran? If one of us ever finds herself in a situation similar to that of Westgate Mall victims, could even a rudimentary knowledge of Islam save us?

American Journalist James Foley Beheaded by ISIS Executioner With London Accent

American journalist James Foley, of Rochester, N.H., poses for a photo in Boston

American journalist James Foley, of Rochester, N.H., poses for a photo in Boston

JAMES Foley was kidnapped in Syria on November 22. The Islamic State, the militant group formerly known as ISIS, have released a YouTube video called “A Message to #America (from the #IslamicState)”. It features a hooded man with British accent beheading James Wright Foley.

The killer speaks in what the Times calls a “strong London accent”:

“This is James Wright Foley, an American citizen of your country. As a government you have been at the forefront of the aggression towards the Islamic State. You have plotted against us and gone far out of your way to find reasons to interfere in our affairs. Today, your military airforce is attacking us daily in Iraq.  Your strikes have caused casualties amongst Muslims. You are no longer fighting an insurgency.  We are an Islamic Army and a state that has been accepted by a large number of Muslims worldwide.”

james foley 1

Foley’s mother Diane wrote on the  ‘Free James Foley’ Facebook page:

“We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people. We implore the kidnappers to spare the lives of the remaining hostages. Like Jim, they are innocents. They have no control over American government policy in Iraq, Syria or anywhere in the world. We thank Jim for all the joy he gave us. He was an extraordinary son, brother, journalist and person. Please respect our privacy in the days ahead as we mourn and cherish Jim.”

In 2012, James Foley spoke to the BBC:
“I’m drawn to the drama of the conflict and trying to expose untold stories. There’s extreme violence, but there’s a will to find who these people really are. And I think that’s what’s really inspiring about it.”

Those were his own words.

Diane and John Foley speak about their son

Diane and John Foley speak about their son

The IS nutters placed these in James Foley’s mouth before they murered him:

“I call on my friends family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers, the US government. For what will happen to me is only a result of their complacency and criminality. My message to my beloved parents: save me some dignity and don’t accept any (unclear, possibly says media) compensation for my death, from the same people who effectively hit the last nail in my coffin with a recent aerial campaign in Iraq. I call on my brother John, who is/was …. member of the US Air Force, think about what you are doing, think about lives you destroy including those of your own family.  I call on you John, think about who made the decision to bomb Iraq recently and kill those people, whoever they may have been. Think John, who did they really kill? Did they think about me, you our family when they made that decision? I died that day John, when your colleagues dropped that bomb on those people – they signed my death certificate. I wish I had more time, I wish I could have the hope of freedom and see my family once again, but that ship has sailed. I guess all in all, I wish I wasn’t American.”

The Committee To Protect Journalists says James Foley is the 70th journalist killed since the Syrian civil war broke out.

The video of the beheading was quickly removed by YouTube, but its horrific contents nevertheless spread widely around the Internet.

The jihadi then pardes another kidnapped journalist, Steven Sotloff.

In other news:

Kurdish ground forces in Iraq, backed by Iraqi troops and US airstrikes, recaptured the vital Mosul dam from ISIS. May it be the first of many defeats for the Islamic State barbarians until they are wiped out.

Over you you, Obama…

Why The West’s Gap Year Jihadi Rappers Use Youth Culture To Get An ID

Screen shot 2014-07-03 at 19.02.17

WHY does a seemingly sane, intelligent, academically ambitious young man leave Cardiff, as Nasser Mauthana did, and decide to wage holy war in Syria and Iraq? Why are young British male Muslims like Aberdeen schoolboy Abdul Raqib Amin attracted to the idea of waving the militant black flag of ISIS. Why are so many tuning in to cheer on the brethren?

Maybe it’s not the pull of global jihad that attracts them so much as it is the joy in rejecting the values of the society you grew up in? It’s youthful rebellion. It;s taking on The Man.

David Aaronovitch writes in the Times:

Why is there no Muslim Peace Movement campaigning for an end to violence in Muslim countries, where the victims are Muslims and the perpetrators are Muslims? Where it might make the most difference.

A couple of weeks ago listeners heard a depressing report from Bradford. Sima Kotecha, the BBC correspondent, was interviewing young Pakistani-British boys about Iraq. Would they go and fight for Isis or other groups? “I would go. They’re brothers,” said one. “You’re going to live as a Muslim, die as a Muslim, innit?” said another.

Imam Says ‘Only Gay Men Play Musical Instruments’ – Lemmy Is A Faker

lemmy is gay

ELTON John. Liberace. George Michael. All gay. We know this because they can play musical instruments. Lemmy, Mick Jagger and even Cliff Richard are all either gay or else faking it and not playing any instrument or singing. No less an authority that an imam says that only gay men play music.

More on overcompensating Lemmy here.

Islamist who protesteted against Danish Mohammed cartoons has change of heart

PA-5623107

CAN an Islamist change?

Michael Moynihan interviews Ahmed Akkari, who helped to whip up the frenzy riots during the Danish cartoon controversy. Akkari then changed his mind. He moved to Greenland – well away form his former friends:

There is no simple explanation for why he flipped, but Akkari’s time in Greenland, having emerged from the swamps of Islamism, was crucial. “In Greenland, I had space and time—and I had the public library. I started reading.” It was there, shrouded in Arctic anonymity, that he confronted his own prejudices, reading books of philosophy, history, and sociology, ultimately consuming—but, he admits, not always comprehending—Danish existentialist philosopher and theologian Søren Kierkegaard.

“In 2011 for the first time I read an Islam critic.” It was the work of Nasr Hamed Abu Zayd, an Egyptian scholar exiled from his homeland and forced by an Egyptian court to annul his marriage for the “crime” of apostasy. His writings transformed Akkari. “He made me move further with my break from Islamism,” a system that he now views as “a way of controlling people. You use God, you use metaphysics, and that’s very strong.”…During the cartoon crisis, a popular Saudi imam told Al Jazeera that free speech was the enemy of religious faith: “The problem is that [the Danes] want to open up … everything for debate. That’s it. It begins with freedom of thought, it continues with freedom of speech, and it ends up with freedom of belief.”

It now seemed a prescient observation, because it was liberalism, the consumption of dissenting ideas—the very thing he had once dedicated his life to shutting down—that changed Ahmed Akkari. Jacob Mchangama argues that, for Akkari, the Danish tradition of free speech acted as a disinfectant. “The Akkari affairs shows the fallacy of the argument that we need to ‘compromise’ and be ‘pragmatic’ when it comes to free speech and religious sensitivities.”

Fox News attack Muslim author on Jesus for not being Christian enough – audience agrees

reza aslan

ACCORDING to the Fox News religion expert, Lauren Green, you can only write about Jesus if you’re a Christian. This explains why only ex-footballers are allowed to talk about soccer on Fox, Republicans are only able to discuss their party with any insight and Fox’s roving reporter ZogH1 is the leading authority on space travel.

Richard Bartholomew looks at the idiocy.

ONE does not expect much from Fox News at the best of times; but a recent interview with Reza Aslan has – deservedly – come under particular mockery for the interviewer’s ignorance and bad faith.

The interview was conducted by Lauren Green, who is described as being “a religion correspondent” for Fox, and it concerned Aslan’s new book Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth. Green appeared to no know little of the book or of scholarship in general, and the segment consists exclusively of her demanding an explanation from Aslan about why a Muslim would write a book about Jesus.

Correction: Catholic priest was not beheaded in Syria – he was shot eight times

REGRET the error:

A Catholic priest was not among three men graphically filmed being beheaded in Syria last week a friar overseeing the Franciscans in the Middle East has told CNN.

Father Francois Mourad, a Syrian originally named as victim of a merciless mob, was instead shot eight times on June 23 when a group of rebels stormed his monastery …

Apologies to his nearest and dearest.

What do you call an extreme and violent Buddhist like Burma’s Ashin Wirathu – Buddhistists?

A man holds a DVD with sermons of Buddhist monks promoting the 969 movement at a DVD shop in the Kyimyindaing market in Yangon, Myanmar on April 4, 2013. Buddhist monk Wirathu says, "969 doesn't accept terrorism." But human rights groups have documented a pattern to the anti-Muslim violence of the past year. Human Rights Watch says that before the October violence in Rakhine, monks distributed anti-Muslim pamphlets with rhetoric similar to 969's and political parties advocated ethnic cleansing. The Burma Campaign U.K. found anti-Muslim leaflets, without the 969 logo, that were circulated in Meikhtila before the March attacks, and some monks and journalists say 969 graffiti, stickers and speeches accompanied them. MORE lunacy in Burma. A racist lunatic monk called Ashin Wirathu – aka ”the Buddhist Bin Laden” – has been appealing to and for like-minded bigots:

After a ritual prayer atoning for past sins, Ashin Wirathu, a Buddhist monk with a rock-star following in Myanmar, sat before an overflowing crowd of thousands of devotees and launched into a rant against what he called “the enemy” — the country’s Muslim minority.

“You can be full of kindness and love, but you cannot sleep next to a mad dog,” Ashin Wirathu said, referring to Muslims.

“I call them troublemakers, because they are troublemakers,” Ashin Wirathu told a reporter after his two-hour sermon. “I am proud to be called a radical Buddhist.”

Is he a Buddhistist, as militant Muslims are called Islamists?

Idaho patriots want to shoot Muslims with their new pig-coated bullets

pig ammo

IDAHO creatives upset at the Islamic cultural center opening near Ground Zero, New York City, have sought revenge by inventing pork-laced bullets to shoot Muslims with.

South Fork Industries, aka South Pork Industries, of Dalton Gardens, Idaho, says its Jihawg Ammo acts as a “defensive deterrent to those who violently act in the name of Islam.”

Beneath the headline “PEACE THROUGH PORK!”, the company writes:

In the fall of 2010, patriots from Idaho County, Idaho sat around a campfire enjoying an adult beverage. The discussion turned to concern and disgust that a mosque was being built at ground zero. Everyone in attendance agreed that freedom of religion is paramount for all peoples of Earth but this showed poor taste and had a sense of “rubbing our noses” into 9/11 tragedy. The discussion turned toward possible solutions to stop such a great insult.

Poll reveals how many Muslims support suicide bombing

SURVEY of the day:

A substantial number of Palestinians think suicide bombing is justified, a poll by the PEW Research Center published this week found. The survey, that polled Muslims in 21 countries worldwide, found that 40 percent of Palestinians believe that attacks against civilians in defense of Islam can be often or sometimes justified.

…Twenty-nine percent of Egyptians supported suicide bombings, and 15% of Jordanians. In Turkey, 15% view these attacks as a legitimate means to defending Islam against its enemies. In Afghanistan, where suicide bombings against Western targets occur frequently, 39% believed it is a justified means of resistance.

And:

The findings indicate that 89% of Palestinians think homosexuality is immoral, think women must always “obey” their husband and favor the imposition of Sharia Law into their society. A smaller amount (45%) believe honor killing is sometimes justifiable. – JPost

Not all Turks are Muslims: Daily Mail and bigots twist Stars Wars Lego race row to target Islam

ISLAMISTS are a rigid bunch. They don’t do angles. As such, they are ideally suited to becoming Lego figures or playing parts of reticulated Stormtroopers in Star Wars. And that’s good. Men like Lego. They like Star Wars. And front-line Islamists are always men. Lock Al-Qaeda in a room for a week, chuck in some Lego and Darth Vader masks and you’d have world peace, right there.

So. To Austria, where local men have been enjoying Lego and Star Wars. But – egads! – a problem. A Turkish group says that Jabba’s Palace (£119.99) looks too much like Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia mosque. Reactionary voices identify that as a Muslim matter. The Atlas Shrugs website screams:
