‘You classist gimp’: Read James Bunt’s wonderful letter to Chris Bryant MP

Labour Party Conference - Day ThreeLabour MP Chris Bryant (Edu. Cheltenham College)told the Guardian that arts should not be about merit.

“I am delighted that Eddie Redmayne won [a Golden Globe for best actor], but we can’t just have a culture dominated by Eddie Redmayne and James Blunt and their ilk. Where are the Albert Finneys and the Glenda Jacksons? They came through a meritocratic system. But it wasn’t just that. It was also that the writers were writing stuff for them. So is the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, doing that kind of gritty drama, which reflects [the country] more? We can’t just have Downton programming ad infinitum and think that just because we’ve got some people in the servants’ hall, somehow or other we’ve done our duty by gritty drama.”

How James Blunt prevented World War III – but not how you think

James Blunt world war 3

JAMES Blunt says he prevented World War III.  How so? Were his song splayed on loop across the battlefields until everyone agreed to stop shooting?

Blunt says that when in Kosovo he disobeyed an order to shoot at Russian troops who had arrived first at Pristina airfield. It was 1999.

British Gen Sir Mike Jackson backed him by saying:

“I’m not going to have my soldiers be responsible for starting World War III.”

How James Blunt’s ‘Music To Waterboard By’ Prevented World War 3

JAMES Blunt prevented World War 3, says James Blunt. He did this by allowing his tunes to be played to inmates at Guantanamo Bay over and over and over as an alternative to waterboarding and upsetting the Chinese. Well, no. Says Blunt of an Army trip to Kosovo in 1999:

“We had 200 Russians lined up pointing their weapons at us aggressively. The direct command [that] came in from general Wesley Clark was to overpower them. Various words were used that seemed unusual to us. Words such as ‘destroy’ came down the radio.”

“Destroy… Blunt….Records…Over… Destroy… Blunt…Records… Over…”

“The soldiers directly behind me were from the Parachute Regiment, so they’re obviously game for the fight.”

So. You led them in a singsong and got them well up for the kill?

“There are things that you do along the way that you know are right, and those that you absolutely feel are wrong. That sense of moral judgment is drilled into us as soldiers in the British army.”

Moral Judgement 1: Do not attack an Amy bigger than your own.

“It didn’t come to that. British general Sir Mike Jackson sent an admonishing message down the wire. [His] exact words at the time were, ‘I’m not going to have my soldiers be responsible for starting world war three’. [He] told us why don’t we sugar off down the road [and], you know, encircle the airfield instead.”

Blunt says the action could have “absolutely” started World War 3. And prevented James Blunt from recording You’re Beautiful.

You win some; you lose some…

Lady GaGa Duets With Susan Boyle Or Is It James Blunt: In Pictures

LADY GAGA was spotted outside Radio City Music Hall in New York City for her sold out four-night Monster Ball show. Of course, it isn’t Lady GaGa it’s the new-look Susan Boyle, ready for her close up. Or is it James Blunt, ready for a comeback tour? Lady GaGa understands one thing: to be cool she has to be hard to pin down. She might not be Madonna’s cameral after all – a singer formed by committee – she may yet be David Bowie…

Pilot James Blunt Says Stay Grounded With Emma Thompson

SINGER James Blunt has created a protest “paper plane” in support of the Stay Grounded campaign.

Later this month, which is the heaviest flight-booking month of the year, we’re going to ask people to Stay Grounded and avoid booking or taking a flight if they can. To do this, we’re going to launch a collection of Protest Paper Planes in London created by talented famous people and talented normal people alike. Each paper plane will be a folded up sheet of A4 artwork with a brilliant piece of anti-flying or pro-flying alternative artwork on it.

When they are not swimming and walking around the world promoting their careers, James Franco, Emma Thompson and the aforesaid Blunt are telling other people not to fly on airplanes.

Blunt’s father, a Colonel in the British Army Air Corps, was a military helicopter pilot.

Blunt is a member of Harrow Aviation Club. Says he: “I can fly anything with a single engine.”

Blunt earned his pilot’s licence, aged 16.

Take it up, up, up and away, James:

Yes, she caught my eye,
As I walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high,
And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.
