CNN hacked Christopher Stevens

THIS is unreal. Christopher Stevens lay dead in Libya. The US Ambassador and three other Americans have been murdered. So, CNN goes looting. It looks over the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. It finds Mr Stevens’ diary. The US State Department’s Philippe Reines taks a view:

Whose first instinct is to remove from a crime scene the diary of a man killed along with three other Americans serving our country, read it, transcribe it, email it around your newsroom for others to read and then call the family?

In photos: brave Libyans protest against the murder of Christopher Stevens

AWAY from the gurning loons taking a break from shouting at pigeons in the precinct to shouting at Americans in embassies in London, Berlin, the Middle East and elsewhere in what is called the Islamic World, what you might have missed are the Libyans who think murdering Christopher Stevens, the US ambassador to that country, was an appalling crime, conducted by demented fascists with a perverted idea of Muslim spirituality. At a demonstration in Benghazi, the brave came out. The US and the West cannot abandon these people. They are the hope…

Is the attack on the US consolate in Libya linked to Assange and this Wikileaks tweet?

WITH Julian Assange holed up in the Ecuador embassy, London, Wikileaks tweeted:

“By the US accepting the UK siege on the Ecuadorian embassy in London it gives tacit approval for attacks on embassies around the world”

Did this pisspoor film really trigger murder on 9/11?

Islamists destroy Tripoli shrine – leave bosomy minarets intact

HOW goes the Arab Spring in Libya? Well, the BBC reports that a Sufi shrine to al-Shaab al-Dahman in Tripoli has been smashed to bits. Salafi Islamists are in the frame.

The Salafists (great name, guys) view the shrine and others like it as idolatrous. A tomb to 15th-Century scholar Abdel Salam al-Asmar in Zlitan has, reportedly, also been targeted.

Desecrating the Benghazi War Cemetery does not define the new Libya

THAT video of Libyan’s desecrating a Christian cemetery, and also knocking over Jewish headstones, was filmed at the Benghazi War Cemetery, where lie the remain of Allied servicemen, who fought between 1942 to 1943. The media round-up:

Daily Mail:

A year ago they begged for Britain’s help when Colonel Gaddafi’s tanks encircled their city, threatening annihilation. Now former Libyan rebels in Benghazi – liberated with the aid of the RAF last March – have systematically desecrated the graves of more than 150 British servicemen killed in North Africa 70 years ago.

The paper sees 150 British graves desecrated. The BBC sees 109.

More than 1,000 soldiers and airmen who lost their lives in the desert wars of Montgomery and Rommel are buried at the site in Eastern Libya.  Many were members of the famed 7th Armoured Division, known as the Desert Rats, who played  a crucial role in the see-saw battle for control of Libya and Egypt between 1941 and 1943.

Marie Colvin, Nicholas Davies, Gareth Montgomery-Johnson and the journalism of attachment

PRESS TV, Iran’s English-speaking mouthpiece supported Colonel Muammar Gaddafi during the so-called Libyan spring. Now in that country, Press TV’s Nicholas Davies, a reporter, and Gareth Montgomery-Johnson, a cameraman, have been kidnapped / seized / arrested by the Misrata Brigade in Misrat. Both men are British. Why they were arrested, we do not know.

Press TV issues a statement:

Local Libyan militiamen have arrested the reporter and cameramen working for the English-language Press TV news network in the western city of Misratah. The pair, indentified as Nicholas Davies and Gareth Mongomery-Johnson, were seized along with two local residents, indentified [sic] only by their first names Muhammad and Assad, by the Misratah Brigade members on Tuesday morning, and are currently being held in custody in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

…The incident is latest in a series of reported abuses by Libyan militiamen, who overthrew slain dictator Muammar Gaddafi after more than 41 years of despotic rule.

Vogue on Libya: the war women in Dior and how Gucci inspired the new flag

IN “WOMEN Under Siege”, Vogue’sintrepid reporter Marie Colvin meets Nissreen Abad and Reem Bishti in the wealthy Tripoli suburb of Hay Andalus.  Vogue is the magazine that saluted Assad of Syria’s wife Asma al-Assad for being thin.

Highlights are many:

* “The two moved in together while the ragtag army of engineers, IT teccies, shopkeepers and students defeated the regime of Mummar Gaddafi in August”

That, the UN sanctions, Nato warplanes and the SAS (see here for our exclusive)…

* Reem: “Staying in Tripoli’s our way of fighting. Somehow, by refusing to evacuate …we reclaimed our country”

That and the SAA, Nato bombs etc.

* ‘Reem’s home is a “world away from the potholed streets… By the time I am seated in a room with spacious couches, paintings on the wall bought by Reem’s father, and trays of juice and nibbles, I almost wish I had spent the war with this natural comedy team.’

COLONEL Gaddafi’s son aif al-Islam has been captured close to the town of Obari in Libya and flown to Zintan. One noticeable differnce to the pre-revolution Saif is that his fingers are missing. Did he lose them in a Nato Airstrike? And will he now have to dictate his LSE coursework..?

Libya Wants Nato Help Finishing Off Gaddafi Fighters

LIBYA wants Nato to stay in the air to hound/pound Gaddafi supporters until at least early 2012.

The country’s, out-going interim leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil told military allies in Qatar today help was wanted to mop up stragglers trying to leave Libya. It apparently means the new Government regards all Gaddafi supporters as war criminals.

Photo: Mustafa Abdel Jalil, left, at the friends of Libya conference in Qatar today
Nato who provided all rebel force air cover during the fight against Gaddafi had been thought ready to pull out on October 30 after Gaddafi’s death and burial and last Sunday’s announcement by the National Transitional Council (NTC) that Libya was liberated.

Jalil said help was need to stop Gaddafi supporters leaving the country.

Gaddafi Becomes Riddle Of The Sands: Bodies Tipped In Secret Desert Graves

MUAMMAR Gaddafi, the 69-year-old Libyan tyrant who spent 42 years as the iron man in control of his country, was buried in the Libyan desert at dawn today.

Officials from the interim government had said the ousted Libyan leader would be buried in a secret desert grave, ending a wrangle over his corpse which meant many feared for the country’s stability.

Government militia had put the body on show in a cold store in Misrata while they argued over what to do with it.

Decay forced an end to the ghoulishness.

Hillary Clinton Wants Lockerbie Bomber Slammed Up: Megrahi Might Wish He Were Dead

HILLARY CLINTON, the USA Secretary of State, wants the United Kingdom’s worst mass murderer convicted of the Lockerbie bombing back in a Scots jail.

Her demand came as Libyans celebrated freedom from 42 years of Gaddafi. The street parties coincided with the discovery of mass killings in Gaddafi’s last stronghold Sirte. The New York Times says mutilated bodies of 58 pro-Gaddafi officials and bodyguards, many Black, were found in the grounds of a hotel which had been held by the militia attacking the town.

The bodies are thought to have been there at least a week. All shown signs of abuse and execution. One was decapitated.

The USA Secretary of State had another attack on the Scottish move of freeing Abdelbaset al Megrahi on compassionate grounds in 2009. She also said if the Scots refused then someone else may feel the bomber’s collar.

The Herald, Glasgow, reports:

‘She said: “We want to see him returned to prison, preferably in Scotland, where he was serving the sentence, but if not, elsewhere, because we thought it was a miscarriage of justice that he was released from the sentence that had been imposed for the ghastly bombing of Pan Am 103.” ‘

New Libya Is No Place For Black Men

BLOODY Libya is no place for black men:

Where he was captured, fallen electricity cables partially covered the entrance to the drainage pipes and the bodies of three men, apparently Gaddafi bodyguards, lay there, one in shorts probably due to a bandaged wound on his leg.

Four more bodies lay at the other end of the pipes. All black men, one had his brains blown out, another man had been decapitated, his dreadlocked head lying beside his torso.

Army chief Jabr was also captured alive, Bakeer said, but NTC officials later announced he was also dead.

Colonel Gaddafi’s Kicking: Libya’s Graffiti Artists Celebrate His Death

TO Libya, land of tribal murder and naked tabloid revenge. The artists have been having their say on Gaddafi’s killing:

In this Tuesday, July 5, 2011 photo, a caricature of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi seen on the wall in the rebel-held Benghazi, Libya, Tuesday, July 5, 2011. The graffiti, in Arabic, reads, "the people have spoken," and "dedicated to the February 7 youth." Moammar Gadhafi is loved in Libya's rebel capital _ as a subject for street artists to mock. Caricatures of the embattled Libyan leader dot walls and buildings across Benghazi in renderings that range from crude sketches to elaborate satire such as Gadhafi being knocked around by a rebel-colored boot or depicted with a Nazi swastika. Gaddafi Unleashes Weapon Of Mass Destruction – Libya’s Tribalism

TODAY is officially the first day of Libya’s After Gaddafi independent existence.

A bright new future awaits.

Perhaps, maybe…they just might do it.

Unlikely. This is a huge and fractured desert tribal state with the only vestige of urban civilisation in the coastal cities.

Times is hard for your average jobbing war correspondent. Any militant with a charged up mobile phone can make an idiot of you in seconds.

Classic examples were spitting from the plasma screens last Thursday morning as a (probably) very shocked Libya National Transitional Council tried to keep the lid on the fact Muammar Gaddafi had been bumped off. Slaughtered by a rabble militia milling around a Sirte exit road drainage pipe and arguing among themselves whether Gaddafi and his also captured son lived or died.

Gaddafi Dead: Long Live Libya’s New Murderous Justice System

THE murder after the capture of Muammar Gaddifi shames us all. There was no Geneva Convention no honours of war. It was a horrible and bloody act committed by a baying pack. (And the Sun loves them.)

There were the usual platitudes: “died of wounds while being transported“, “caught in cross-fire” and at last one brave rebel stood up and told the world he had shot, the unarmed, Gaddifi through the liver and then temple.

It was not the act of a group fit to rule and augers badly for Libya after 42 years of subjugation by the Gaddifi family. That family had also supported and armed the IRA and terrorist groups throughout the world as part of Gaddifi’s mad world revolution plan.

Colonel Gaddafi Is Hiding In Sheffield On Way To Gateshead: Photo

LOCAL News Story of The Day comes to us via the Sheffield Star wherein we learn of goings on at The Party Town shop on Ecclesall Road. Outside the store the mannequin dressed up as Colonel Gaddafi and carrying a sign saying “You ain’t seen me right!” is causing offence.
Police are called.
Shop assistant Jamie tells the paper:

“A couple of police officers came in and said ‘What’s that supposed to be outside?’. They said it was culturally offensive and asked us to take it down.”

‘UK Secret: UK/Libya Eyes Only’ Letters In Full: The Words That Tie Blair’s Britain To Gaddafi’s Libya

THESE letters were found in the British ambassador’s abandoned offices in Tripoli. They are marked UK secret: UK/Libya Eyes Only”. They reveal how the Tony Blair regime worked with Colonel Gaddafi to keep the opposition down and money flowing. They hint at why Abdelbaset Al Megrahi was freed. He’s the Lockerbie bomber who murdered 270 people. He acted alone. Well, he never did tell on anyone else…

The War In Libya And Me: Max Hastings’ Daily Mail Histories

MAX Hasting has a few words on the war in Libya – which we won. The Daily Mail’s voice of history notes from a desk:

Colonel Gaddafi is mad, bad and hated by most of his own people. Yet unless somebody in his own entourage shoots him, or one of his family persuades him to quit, it may prove hard for the West to topple him. – March 3, 2011

The West faces a long and messy engagement in one of the world’s most sensitive regions, with consequences no one can foretell. – April 6, 2011

My own answer remains what it has been since Libya’s turmoil began early this year: very little. I have never doubted that NATO’s military support for the rebels would bring about the demise of Gaddafi. Indeed, I thought this would happen sooner than it has, because his regime and armed forces were so shambolic. – August 24, 2011

Why We Won The War In Libya: Gaddafi Had Neither Soldiers Nor Power

HOW did we win the war in Libya? Oh, yes, it was us – the West Wot Won It. Or was it the rebels? Or was Gaddafi defeated because – get this – there was nothing to defeat? His regime was knackered.

Bernard-Henri Lévy tells the Daily Beast:

But either the news of the arrival of foreigners travels fast, or the excitement of the chebabs escorting us, who are also shooting bi-tube rounds in our honor, attracts attention; people start flooding into the square, more and more of them, brandishing their weapons toward the sky and joining in the scene. I improvise a few words: “A great day…the beauty of the liberation of a city by its own…images of the liberation of Paris…Libya in your hands…no exactions, nor vengeance….”

The young people cry “Allah Akbar”—I reply, “Libya Hora.”

They cheer for France, I salute the Libyan spring…

Can Tortured Shweyga Mullah Help Us To Hate Colonel Gaddafi: Hannibal Gaddafi And Aline Scaf Are Here To Help

CAN we be trained to hate Colonel Gaddafi – really hate him? While some claim that Gaddafi and thus Megrahi took the fall for Syria’s crimes in the Lockerbie bombing, others point to how PC Yvonne Fletcher’s killer was allowed to leave the Libyan embassy and return unmolested to Tripoli. We need an image that shows Gaddafi to be a murderous, sadistic thug. All we have are the grainy newsreel images of PC Fletcher – and don’t we look at those and feel less hate than pride in the SAS? – and tales of lies and subterfuge over the murders of 270 people on British soil. To hate Gadafi we need to see his victims. We need to see Shweyga Mullah (aka Shweyga Mulla). She tells CNN’s Dan Rivers that she was tortued by Gaddafi’s youngest son Hannibal and his wife Aline Skaf, a Lebanese former model. The 30-year-old Ethiopian nanny says Aline toruted her by pouring boiling water on her skin for not beating theri child. Reprots need to be taken at face value. but Rivers offers no coroborrating evidence.

She tells CNN:

“She took me to a bathroom. She tied my hands behind my back, and tied my feet. She taped my mouth, and she started pouring the boiling water on my head like this.”

CNN enlarges:

She peeled back the garment draped carefully over her body. Her chest, torso and legs are all mottled with scars — some old, some still red, raw and weeping. As she spoke, clear liquid oozed from one nasty open wound on her head. After one attack, “There were maggots coming out of my head, because she had hidden me, and no one had seen me,” Mullah said.

National Transitional Council Agrees To Keep Lockerbie Lies Between Friends: UK’s Ally Spares Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi’s Blushes

LOCKERBIE bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi has been found in Libya. He’s ill. The only person to have been tried and found guilty of the biggest mass murder on British soil is in a coma at his Tripoli home. Well, so we are told.

CNN reports that Megrahi appeared to be “at death’s door“. We have not seen his medical records. And neither have the burghers on East Renfrewshire Council, under whose auspices he is out on licence on condition that he dies from his terminal prostate cancer. The trouble is that release from Scottish Jail multiples life expectancy…apparently.

Gold Guns And James Bond Fantasies: Photos From Inside Gaddafi’s Tripoli Compound

PHOTOS of the rebels in inside Colonel Gaddafi’s Tripoli compound reveal something about the despot’s life and living standards. He liked gold. All despots like gold. It’s in The Despot’s Handbook, between “girls” and “guns”. Gaddafi had no golden girl but he did have a golden gun. Like most priapic men, he fancied himself as a James Bond type. Want to look around..?

Where Is Abdelbaset al-Megrahi? One Of East Renfrewshire Council’s Prisoners Is Missing In Libya (Photos)

The poser hinges on Gaddafi’s son Seif al-Islam. The rebels, aka Libya’s BNP, say he has been sezied. He says he’s not been kidnapped. He makes a pretty convincing argument as he sits in a car outside the famous Rixos hotel, flashing two fingers in the air like a man well used to ordering doubles of everything.

Previously, Seif has been accused of plagiarising his Ph.D in economics from the LSE.

You might well wonder about lies and liars – and then wonder about Tony Blair, who when Prime Minister had a hand in the release of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the man jailed for the biggest mass murder on British soil when a jet was blown up over Lockerbie. The killer had three months to live at the time of his release on compassionate grounds on August 20, 2009.
