If you are more shapely than svelte

This is a sponsored post from Pfizer

As you get ready to set off on your summer holidays, take a moment to consider which bloke you’ll be on the beach – Mr. Summer Loving or Mr. Summer Love Handle. If you’re shaping up to fall into the latter category, then it’s time to take control of that extra weight and get rid of a few pounds.

Being overweight increases the risk of conditions including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, stroke and osteoarthritis. So before you start thinking that ‘obese’ doesn’t apply to you, consider that European men should have a waist circumference of less than 37 inches / 94 cm2 to be considered within the healthy range, whilst the greatest health risks are associated with waist measurements of 40 inches / 102 cm or over3.

Health help at hand

Maybe it’s a pride thing or a lack of time, but research suggests that 1 in 10 men would wait until a health issue required immediate medical attention before booking an appointment with their GP.

That is why Pfizer has launched the UK’s first online health surgery including dedicated sexual health clinics, to encourage men to seek professional health advice in the privacy of their own home. The online surgery offers advice on a broad range of health issues, in total confidence, from qualified GPs.

Men worried about their weight – or any other health issue – can log onto www.manmot.co.uk for a confidential live web-consultation with a GP and experts from the National Obesity Forum between 6pm and 11pm on 23rd August 2010.

The online surgery is funded by Pfizer and is supported by National Obesity Forum, Men’s Health Forum, Sexual Advice Association, Relate, HEART UK and Diabetes UK.

Please note that as the GPs are not aware of each user’s full medical history they cannot give individualised medical advice, but can refer them to their own GP if issues of concern arise.
