Find Out Who Will Win at the MOBO Awards 2014

THE MOBO Awards have doled out their nominations, inevitably prompting spectacularly thick people to say “WHY DON’T WE GET A MOWO AWARDS EH?” Classical music awards are exactly that, you berk.

Anyway, Sam Smith and Krept & Konan lead this year’s nominations with three nods each and the event will take place at the SSE Arena, Wembley on October 22nd, which is pretty fancy for it’s 19th year in business.

As well as Krept & Konan and Sam Smith, Fuse ODG, Beyonce, Meridian Dan, Tinie Tempah, FKA Twigs, Katy B, Chris Brown, Kendrick Lamar and MNEK get a look-in too.

In even better news, the ceremony will be broadcast on ITV2 this year.

Discussing the news, MOBO founder Kanya King said: “As we enter our 19th year, the MOBO Awards show promises to be bigger and more audacious than ever. This year’s nominees represent an incredible crop of artists. I find it particularly exciting to see so many underground artists featured, who’ve reached new heights over the last year and broken into the wider consciousness.”

“It’s testament to their talent and their determination to succeed and we are very proud to witness their successes to date. This year’s show at Wembley is set to be nothing short of spectacular”.

If you fancy a flutter, we’re going to arrogantly predict who will win. If you land a big bet, we want a round of drinks off you. We’re not kidding.

There’s a very strong bunch of nominees, so let’s have a look.

HTC’s creates tacky golden bling to celebrate black music at the MOBO awards

mobo tat

I’M really not sure that this is all that appropriate you know. Is overpriced golden blong really the way to celebrate the best of black and urban music at the MOBO Awards?

Because that’s what they’re doing:

Still, HTC has just announced a new model that’ll put their scarcity to shame: an 18 carat gold HTC One priced at £2,750 (about $4,400). Only five copies will be made to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the MOBO awards, which honors black artists and urban music in the UK. It’s the “most exclusive and expensive smartphone every produced by HTC,” according to MOBO, and features a MOBO 18 logo laser etched on the back.

MOBO Awards 2010 Baskstage Photos: Tinie Tempah, JLS And A Living God

THE MOBO Awards 2010 backstage photos show Billy Ocean looking like he’s risen from the sea with a Trident in his hands. Tinie Tempah won an award that we except to see worn as a necklace – he’s best newcomer. Other acts that won and sat at round tables: JLS (surely up for a duet with X Factor deportee Gamu), Eminem (the biggest act could not but it is overwhelmed by the support of his British fans etc.), N-Dubz, Professor Green and Plan B.

MOBO founder Kanya King had a little gloat on stage:

“Now here we are 15 years later and urban music is the new pop music and I hate to say this, but we told you so.”

Isn’t urban music, now that’s popular, also pop music? (Red carpet photos here.)

MOBO 2010: Winners, Photos And Gamu’s JLS Duet

MOBO Awards 2010 In Photos: all eyes on X Factor deportee Gamu Nhengu, who stole the limelight from raisin-haired Jermaine Jackson, N-Dubz and their surly mascot Dappy, Mark Ronson’s No.1 fan (meet your people) and someone who used to be white women called Natasha Hamilton (now a cocoa dusted figurine with a face like Qwerty keyboard – picture 4). JLS scooped a gong and the talk was that Gamu and the lads are to duet. Enjoy the photos…
