Rare Nirvana Footage Appears Online (And Other Greatest Vids)

PA-1057328

RARE footage of Nirvana playing their last ever LA gig has been put online by someone who knew the band. Within months of the recording, Kurt Cobain would cut his life short and rid us all of a band who, whether you liked their music or not, were really fun to be around.

The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles May Well Be The Worst Karaoke Gig Ever

AMERICA’S fondness for The Beatles is unwavering and borderline bizarre. Of course, The Beatles are brilliant and hugely significant, but it isn’t like The States have a plethora of heroes to celebrate that belong to their shores.

Either way, they’ll be celebrating The Fabs again with a show called The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles, which will be recorded at the Los Angeles Convention Centre on January 27.

Morrissey Is Writing Books Because No-One Likes His Records Anymore

morrissey

FANS of The Smiths, and in particular Morrissey, are a weirdly devoted bunch. Their fervour isn’t matched by the output they receive from the Grand Miserablist.

The Smiths, of course, deserve their place in the annals of popular music simply for popularising an outcast spirit of disenfranchisement. They turned it into an artform and teenagers the world over fell for it, hook, line and sinker. Their records, objectively, weren’t great for the most part… but like The Clash or The Doors, it is what The Smiths stood for which made them so loved.

Azealia Banks: Once Promising, Now Dead In The Water

PA-13304634

WHEN 212 crash landed, Azealia Banks looked for all the world like she was going to be the most famous human on the planet. She had it all – a quick tongue, a great look and a tune so huge that the rest of hip hop was going to have to keep tabs on her. And then we waited. And waited some more.

2011 was the time she set the world alight and since then, she’s done nothing. Sure, there have been releases, but they’ve been stodgy, sub-par affairs, blighted by Banks’ insistence on maintaining eye-contact with everyone through the medium of thoroughly pointless beefs.

BBC Wusses Out Of Top Of The Pops Anniversary Special Because of Jimmy Savile

THIS year would mark the 50th anniversary of Top Of The Pops. The show was, until relatively recently, a cornerstone of British television. A mixture of people’s interest shifting to the internet, and the BBC’s complete failure to stay in touch with youth culture and an over-reliance on the Glastonbury coverage saw TOTP falling by the wayside.

And then there’s the ongoing Jimmy Savile child abuse scandal.

10 Things Younger That Keith Richards

PA-10502139

TODAY, Keith Richards is 70 years old! We have to admire him, seeing as he’s about 1% blood and the rest is made up of cigarettes, drugs and urinal cakes.

The NME placed Keef on top of their list of rock stars most likely to die in 1973 and yet, somehow, he’s proven them all wrong by still being alive. We assume.

Of course, with such celebrations, most people would compile a list of Keef’s most scandalous moments, or maybe he’s greatest songs. They may even nerdgasm over his Top 10 Riffs.

However, those people are boring.

We’re going to look at ten interesting things that Keith Richards is older than. Yes, he may have looked like he was going to die on numerous occasions, but here he is, older than…

1. The atomic bomb, first detonated in 1945.

Petition Asks David Cameron To Put An End To Dirty Music Videos

Music - 8th Annual MTV Video Music Awards - Universal City, Los Angeles

YOU may not know, but Robin Thicke is the first man ever on Earth to be featured in a clip with some naked women for spurious reasons. We checked on Twitter and the outrage confirmed it.

And his Blurred Lines video really caused a stink, to the point that it has prompted a petition urging Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron to change the law and ban children from watching dirty music videos online.

Copyright Treasure Trove: Fans Of 60s Music – A Goldmine Awaits You

PA-10536783

THE news that rare Beatles recordings are being released on iTunes next week, all 59 tracks of it! Recordings from ’63 will be unleashed on the world, but weirdly, without the usual fanfare of usual Beatle releases.

The thing is, this is a release of necessity after changes to copyright laws are forcing them to put music out so they can retain control over it.

Gary Barlow Finds Twitter Q&A Session Rather Taxing

PA-17939756 (1)

SINCE Take That hung up their microphones after their last tour, Gary Barlow has kept himself busy by starring on TV as an X Factor judge. He’s also recorded a new album that sounds like Mumford & Sons, which caused hipster folk bands to create a giant pyre of fiddles and ukuleles.

So, to promote the new LP, he took to Twitter for a Q&A. A chance for Barlow to hear from his fans, right? Well, sadly for Gary, he found that most questions focused on one thing – tax avoidance.

Watsky’s 30ft Stage Dive Goes Wrong… Wanna See The Video?

george watskMUSICIANS are adorable aren’t they? They’re never too bright and they get silly ideas and see them through without thinking about it. Look at Johnny Borrell’s entire career. Look at Thom Yorke thinking he’s a clever man. It’s sweet.

Anyway, rapper Watsky has had to apologise for being ‘stupid and wildly irresponsible’ after leaping from a lighting rig and injuring two people during a London gig.

Performing at the Vans Warped Tour at Alexandra Palace, he decided to climb up the light rigging and leap from 30ft in the air into the crowd.

Noel Edmonds And More Ungodly Horrors: When Radio DJs Invaded The Pop Charts

YOU may or may not be aware, Noel Edmonds is making his way to the pop charts with an unlikely appearance in a dance track (warning, it is rather abrasive).

You can hear it below. Of course, he’s not the first radio DJ to have a stab at the charts, so with that, let us look at some of the weird and wonderful moments in pop music when radio jockeys ended up in the beast they presided over.

Noel Edmonds

Candice Cannes’ Are You Ready features Noel Edmonds in his Deal Or No Deal guise while a woman mutters nonsense in a seductive voice.

What’s All This About A Brazilian Prostitute Filming Justin Bieber While He Sleeps?

bieber sleeping

DANCING foetus, Justin Bieber, has been trying his darnedest to be a man in recent years, spitting off balconies, giving fruity hand gestures to paps and generally throwing wobblers all over the place.

Now, he’s found himself in the middle of a very weird scenario with one woman filming him while he slept.

The story went like this: The woman who videotaped a sleeping Bieber was a prostitute. The unidentified woman blows a kiss to a passed out popstar and everyone assumed she was a prostitute that the singer had paid for.

Why People Moaning About Susan Boyle And Elvis Are Stupid And Wrong

PA-7952895

PART-TIME music snobs have been tutting and sighing about the imminent Christmas single featuring both Susan Boyle and Elvis. They think Elvis represents something sanctified and Boyle, something awful. These people, clearly, have little knowledge in either and, in fact, don’t realise how this duet makes a whole load of sense.

When asked about the duet, Susan Boyle was as puzzled as anyone, saying: “To sing with Elvis, I didn’t think it would be possible… isn’t technology brilliant? Dueting with Elvis was beyond my wildest dreams and now that this is able to raise money and help children, it is simply fantastic.”

Ohio State Perform Greatest Moonwalk In History!

moonwalking

WHILE Michael Jackson didn’t invent the Moonwalk, he absolutely popularised it, took it global, mastered it and became as famous as the music he made.

Trying to top MJ’s moves is probably pretty bold, right?

Well, the 192-piece band of Ohio State University went and managed it… and how!

Vinyl Music Sales At A 10 Year High

PA-17280380

VINYL bores are a terrible, terrible thing. However, some nice news is that vinyl sales are at a 10 year high. Driving demand are releases from Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys and David Bowie (and a whole bunch of great compilations and reissues).

Figures are showing that records have crossed the half-million mark already in 2013, which is the first time that’s happened since 2003. Since last year, sales have doubled.

Naturally, the amount of records sold is rather modest, but still encouraging. Music fans have bought 550,000 records thus far, according to analysis of Official Charts Company data by recording industry body the BPI.

The Top 10 masked bands of all time (volume 1)

PA-6056744

SINCE time immemorial singers have coloured their faces or hidden behind masks. The masks enable the singers to be freer, take on news personas and cut loose. We’ve flicked through the record archives here at Anorak Towers and now bring you the Top 10 masked pop stars and groups of all time:

Gwar

Without doubt, the funniest masked band of all time, are the might Gwar. In their time, they’ve cut off limbs, given birth to ghouls and wheeled out giant menstruating beasts on stage. Their warty, demon masks are almost as important as their brand of schlock rock and god bless the lot of ’em.

Arctic Monkeys on X Factor and beer bellies

The Arctic Monkeys, winner of the Band award, pose backstage at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in association with Hugo Boss at the Royal Opera House, London.

THE world of rock music is a dreary place at the moment and one of the few likeable bands on the circuit are Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys. Whether you like their music or not, they seems to stand for something rather good. They’re defenders of the working classes without being boorish. They’ve always had half decent haircuts. They have fuzz pedals.

And in an interview on Newsnight, AM’s frontboy Alex Turner got onto pop music.

Turner defended the existence of X Factor:

“People get too angry about X Factor and talent shows. Just let them get on with it; you need that to kick against. People talk about how that’s ruined everything but there’s always been shitty pop music, whether it came from a television show or not.”

Miley Cyrus: Shock as pop star dances provocatively in bikini

twat

EVERYONE is talking about Miley Cyrus today. Why? Well, in a move which is incredibly unusual for pop stars, she danced provocatively while wearing not many clothes while singing a song.

Astonishing, huh?

Her now notorious performance at the MTV VMAs has, mystifyingly, drawn complaints… especially from a parenting pressure group over in America.

The Parents Television Council (PTC, who never complain about anything, honest) issued a complaint against the channel over the 20-year-old’s routine and said that the show should not have been rated as suitable for 14 year olds, adding: “Heads should roll at MTV.”

Homecoming Queen wants Nirvana in campaign video… just one problem

YOU know how Kurt Cobain famously killed himself and joined the infamous ’27 Club’ back in the ’90s? Well, one poor cheerleader missed the memo.

From Virginia, the cheerleader – running from Homecoming Queen – wrote to Sub Pop, asking if Nirvana would be in a campaign video, showing their support for her.

AEG didn’t think they’d need to vet Conrad Murray for Michael Jackson

FILE - In this Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, file photo, Michael Jackson's former doctor Conrad Murray sits in a courtroom during his involuntary manslaughter trial in Los Angeles. Jurors hearing a civil case on Wednesday May 1,2013 against Jackson's concert promoter that Murray was more than $500,000 in debt and his finances were “severely distressed.” (AP Photo/Reed Saxon, Pool, File)

THE death of Michael Jackson made for an unbelievable night, mainly because it happened during the Glastonbury Festival where rumours of celebrity deaths always take off, usually unfounded. Alas, it transpired that the most famous man on the planet had indeed died, and no-one knew whether to celebrate Jackson’s incredibly body of music or make jokes about where he might like to stick his dick.

The fallout of his death saw a mystifying funeral/concert, various grabs for MJ’s fortunes and, of course, a baying mob for Conrad Murray after he medicined Michael Jackson into the choir invisible.

Brazil greets Paul McCartney with a plague of grasshoppers in his face

mccartney crickets

BEING a Beatle isn’t easy. When you’re trying to do a show, you’re met by most gussets and a wall of screams. However, in Brazil, they like to do things a bit more Biblical.

And so, to Sir Paul McCartney who played a show in South America and found himself hit by a plague of grasshoppers.

During his 3 hour gig in Goiania, Macca was bombarded by the insects. Tom Jones gets a hail of knickers, and poor old Paul gets a mouth filled with horrible bugs. But, then, he is Beatle (geddit?!).
