Harry Styles: Not the first popstar to be hit with something on stage (video round-up)

RECENTLY, Harry Styles of One Direction, was pelted in the wang by a stray shoe, thrown from his beloved audience. This writer himself has thrown an errant trainer at The Prodigy, missing the target (Keef) by some distance and hitting the drummer’s cymbal at Reading ’96 (if you have a recording of the show, listen out for it during Poison).

Of course, this kind of behaviour is not to be cheered at… mostly. It is wilfully stupid behaviour, but alas, is all part of the rock ‘n’ roll circus.

Some musicians get bras and drugs thrown at them, which is very nice. Most however, aren’t too pleased with what comes their way.

With that, let us look at some of the most brutal bottlings and weirdest missiles aimed toward people just trying to earn a living.

Rihanna isn’t ‘authentic’ according to thunderously drab indie band

YOU’VE heard the same arguments against pop music time and time again, never once getting any more original, witty or incisive – ‘pop music isn’t real music’. Usually, these gripes come from crashingly dull indie bands who think they’re part of something more ‘real’ or ‘better’ because they’re stupid enough to believe that picking up a guitar and playing the same 4 chords every other indie band is playing, is somehow more valuable than anything else.

Bee Gees And Michael Jackson Collaboration Caught On Video

FACE it – The Bee Gees are one of the greatest groups to ever cut a record ever. Their back catalogue is simply astonishing, running through psychedelia, concept albums, disco, pop and not to mention all the great songs they wrote for other.

Now, mix that with the breathtaking body of work made by Michael Jackson and you have something that is quite giddifying.

Okay, Dangerous was the last time Jackson did anything of note and the Bee Gees haven’t made a decent record since You Win Again, but y’know, before that, they were unstoppable. Right?

The two camps got their weird faces together and recorded a song called ‘All In Your Name’, and the video (which you can watch below) shows them in the studio together, writing and recording the track.

Gibb says:

“Michael Jackson and I were the dearest of friends, that’s simply what it was. We gravitated towards the same kind of music and we loved collaborating and he was the easiest person to write with.”

“The more we got to know each other the more those ideas entwined and it all came to this song ‘All In Your Name’. “All in Your Name” is in fact the message that Michael wanted to send out to all of his fans all over the world that he did it all for them and for the pure love of music. I hope and pray that we all get to hear it in its entirety. This experience I will treasure forever.”

So have a listen. It isn’t very good, but still.

Brian Cox autotunes his way back to the beginning of time

AUTOTUNE has been the pariah of ears throughout 2012. However, Autotune is a fine invention when used well or creatively. Regarding the latter, a number of amusing Autotuned videos have appeared online, making the most tedious of voices more akin to an cyborg choir!

Q Magazine: Surely the most pointless music rag on Earth?

AWARD ceremonies aren’t anything to get excited about, unless you’re winning something. Notably, Q Magazine is a torch bearer for everything bad in music, namely, back-slapping and looking backward. And their awards underline that and how!

Winning this year, were the not-at-all-current Britpop bands Pulp and Blur as well as Muse (prog revivalists), Underworld (irrelevant since Beaucoup Fish), Emeli Sande (Radio 2 on legs) and further prizes going to Bobby Womack for album of the year and something for Dionne Warwick (hard to knock Dionne in fairness).

Girls Aloud: Getting back together, just so they can split up

LIKE it or not, Girls Aloud are just about the best pop-group that these isles produced after the Millennium, in a period where rock lost its way, dance music turned into a dubstep version of Kiss and pop ruled absolute. Girls Aloud kicked the door in, introduced fun that was hip and, for a period, put an end to all those dreadful bloody ballads.

And then they went away, had varying degrees of success with their solo careers (Nadine’s being particularly gruesome), with the threat of coming back and showing Stooshe & Co how you’re really supposed to be a pop outfit.

Watch Lady GaGa puking on-stage!

AFTER Justin Bieber puked his little infant ring up on-stage recently, it seems that he may be at the start of something of a craze.

That’s because Lady GaGa has now joined in and, even better, someone managed to capture it on video! Hurray for humans! Of course, this is nowhere near as good as Fergie from Black Eyed Peas wetting herself mid-performance, but y’know, we can only work with what we’re given.

Ke$ha says she’s had sex with a ghost

ANYONE who has seen those leaked photographs of Ke$ha covered in someone’s semen will no doubt have been steadily vomiting for the past year. There’s something so profoundly unlikeable about Ke$ha that, it doesn’t at all matter what she looks like, because she’ll always be on the cusp of vile.

Maybe it’s because she’s a walking Bratz doll who will say absolutely anything for attention and, ultimately, will end up believing it herself.

Manchester home to biggest music thieves in the UK – pirates have awful taste in music

PIRACY of music is still something of a contentious issue. Some say it is theft, some say it isn’t because it doesn’t remove the original, rather, makes a copy. Basically though, it is quite obviously stealing and if you can deal with that, then go buck wild.

And as the headline suggests, Manchester is the biggest pirate city in the UK, and the United Kingdom happens to be the second worst country in the world for illegal music downloads behind the United States. While this is all well and good, there’s some very, very disturbing news hidden away in the stats.

LeAnn Rimes checks into rehab for ‘anxiety’

CELEBRITIES love a bit of rehab don’t they? In our godless society, rehabs are the next best thing where famous folk can ostensibly show some kind of redemptive attitude for their nefarious ways. Basically, rehab is a confession booth without having the sore knees.

Rihanna LP scores number one with paltry sales: The record industry is dead man, miss him, miss him…

THE record industry has long been in decline. Basically, people got sick of the mark-up on CDs and, more importantly, were thunderously tired of having to find places for their CDs to live. MP3s may lack the character of vinyl and such, but boy howdy, they’re a lot neater aren’t they?

Sadly for the recording industry, MP3s (a format designed to maximise profits) are easily stolen, which has seen sales dropping dramatically. Which brings us to the news that Rihanna has just topped the album charts with the lowest sales figures EVER.

Girls Aloud to reform at the behest of Her Majesty

NOVEMBER 2012 will be the tenth anniversary of Girls Aloud winning Popstars: The Rivals. A decade ago, Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine, Nicola and Sarah erupted onto the pop scene and became just about the greatest girlgroup these shores ever produced.

However, like all famous popgroups, they’ve gone their separate ways and some of them look like they hate each other. Cheryl, of course, became famous all by herself and Nadine turned into something of a joke hate figure, with the others seemingly perfectly lovely and a little flawed (just what you want from popstars really).

Plan B: Accidental racist

CROCS. Mullets. Socks and sandals. Global Hypercolor knickers. They’re all pretty bad fashion faux-pas, but none really compare to one Plan B made, which made him look like a massive racist to which he’s had to apologise for.

Basically, Plan B appeared on the cover of Shorlist appearing to be a fan of Neo Nazism.

Nazi-confused French National Front threaten to sue Madonna over Swastika image

MADONNA is in trouble with the French National Front. They might be suing her after she showed a video of party leader – Marine Le Pen – with a swastika on her forehead during a concert in Paris. Of course, most of the fans at the show whooped with delight at the image, but Le Pen’s crew are not pleased at all.

The images that were projected draw a terrible link between the party and an ideology that we reject,” party Vice President Florian Philippot said Monday. “Just because she is rich and well known does not mean we should accept such atrocities. It’s an insult against Marine Le Pen and an insult to all the National Front party members.”

After the image of Pen appeared in the video, it melded into that of one of Adolf Hitler.

Of course, the Daily Mail have been keen to point out that Le Pen has transformed the French National Front and now, it’s a rather good, clean party. And, as you’ve just read, Florian Philippot is keen to distance the party from all those horrible Nazis. They’re not into all that at all.

Target refuse to stock Frank Ocean’s album… nothing to do homosexuality, obviously

EVEN though Frank Ocean’s ‘coming out’ was a huge relief for some (for others, not so much because he’s far from the first non-straight person to be involved in the world of rap), there are problems that come with it. These problems surround the kind of berk who has a massive issue with other people’s sex lives.

And so, to US megachain, Target, who have decided that they don’t want to stock Ocean’s new album – Channel Orange – despite the fact it is, quite possibly, the best soul record since D’Angelo and Erykah Badu started cutting wax. Yes, really. He’s that good.

Justin Bieber sued for $9.2m by ear-owner – Stacey Wilson Betts has heard enough

PEOPLE with fully functioning ears have been complaining about Justin Bieber for some time now. The gyrating foetus is responsible for a series of songs that are baffling to the adult earhole, only understood by the pubeless and the creepy.

And now, Bieber is being sued for $9.2 million by an Oregon woman who claims that her ears have suffered permanent damage, thanks to the singer with the squidgy fontanelle.

Kanye West has a press-induced breakdown on stage

IT is fair to say that Kanye West is a highly strung man. At times, he’s unbearably sweet, while at other times, he’s absolutely barking mad. He switches between gloomy, accusatory and hyped to A.D.D., doing somersaults, look-at-me-everyone with the blink of an eye.

In short, he’s pretty fascinating to have around.

So after showing everyone his winkie online and disturbing Taylor Swift at an award ceremony, he’s now going insane at the press he so often courts. This time, his sights are set squarely on MediaTakeOut.

Beckham hates Spice Girls ‘bad vibes’

EVERY woman in the mid-twenties went barking crazy when the Spice Girls got back together to launch their musical. However, the reunion was laced with undiluted hate and the gloves are coming off.

Apparently, Victoria Beckham confessed to friends that their were “bad vibes” when the girls reunited last week and she finds it all very “amusing” that they “pretend to get on so well”. On camera, Posh Spice said that she was pleased to be back with the girls, but obviously, the photographs from the event told a different tale with Victoria standing away from the rest of the group.

Lauryn Hill doesn’t pay tax and gives peculiar reasons for not doing so, while looking at prison

EVEN though Lauryn Hill possibly made the greatest debut album of all time, she’s still as mad as a bag of talking rocks. She’s been collared for not paying her taxes and she went to her website to explain why. She said she withdrew from society to keep herself and her family safe from popular culture’s “climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism.”

“Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual,” Hill wrote. “I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities, but I did however put my safety, health and freedom and the freedom, safety and health of my family first over all other material concerns! I also embraced my right to resist a system intentionally opposing my right to whole and integral survival.”

Police leak Rihanna photo to TMZ, but get off the hook?

LEAKING pictures to the press is, obviously, very common indeed. If you get them by hacking an email, you’ll get thrown in prison. But what happens if you’re two police officers? Well, there’s a whole issue of betrayal of trust, misusing a position of power and, generally speaking, acting immorally when you’re supposed to be a moral guardian.

Well, the two cops who allegedly leaked the photo of Rihanna after she was assaulted by Chris Brown will not face criminal charges, officials have said.

$1million for Chris Brown versus Drake in a boxing ring

DESPITE the fact Chris Brown and Drake are two of the lamest humans on the planet, barely able to fight their way out of a sleeping bag, they’ve been indulging themselves in a good ol’ fashioned beef. Or, more accurately in this case, a ‘Quorn’.

After throwing nasty looks at each other, doing some snide tweets and sending a few bottles up into the air in a nightclub, the world has fixed its glare on them to see if they’ll actually do anything interesting. Ever.

Linkin Park and Bieber battle it out to rule supreme over worst week in music, ever

COULD we be in the middle of the worst week in music ever? You may be able to think of other lousy periods in music history, but this one looks unbeatable. Want the evidence? Let us look at the chart.

Apparently, Linkin Park’s fifth studio album Living Things has topped the midweek album chart, ousting Justin Bieber from his lofty position. Linkin Park (pictured). Justin Bieber. It’s like choosing between Hepatitis B or C.

Adele’s music can be blamed on her gay chum getting off with her boyfriend

UNFATHOMABLY, Adele’s ’21’ went and conquered the world. It’s not a bad album per se, but it isn’t exactly any good. It’s the musical equivalent of a baked potato with only butter. It does a job, but doesn’t in any way excite. Still, Adele won’t mind that, what with it making her fantastically rich and famous.

But what event inspired the ’19’, the album that paved the way for ’21’? Or indeed, who can we blame for the existence of Adele’s fantastically successful career?

Kim Kardashian: Potential is more lucrative the marriage

POTENTIAL is a funny thing. If you never fulfil it, you’re always in a position where you can be interesting without the fear of failure or ridicule. And Kim Kardashian’s apparent relationship with Kanye West is going to be one based entirely on the promise that it’ll get more serious, thereby giving them both the chance to stretch it out into as many paychecks as possible.

A wedding would only put a fullstop on the whole thing, so why stop the chatter and resultant rolling money? And in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Kim K is keen to point out that this Yeezy relationship is not a “publicity stunt.”

Kanye West to make animal noises album, which is fine, clearly

SUPREME attention-seeker (self-proclaimed, obviously) Kanye West is sometimes brilliant (“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”) and sometimes complete dreck (“Watch The Throne”, Kim Kardashian) is reportedly about to embark on a most peculiar endeavour.

Kanye West is going to make an album made entirely of animal noises.

Apparently, Yeezy has “become obsessed with roars, barks and jungle noises” and believes that making an album that is made of nothing but animal noises is “an ingenious plan”.
