Iran’s Neda Soltani blames lazy media for her plight

THE BBC has the story on Neda Soltani NOT Neda Agha-Soltan. In 2009, Neda Agha-Soltan was killed in Tehran. The Iranian protest movement was gathering pace. Shots were fired. An unarmed woman was killed. The horror was captured on video. That video was posted on YouTube. The insurrection had a martyr. And we had a face of Iranian brutality. But the face we got was not that of Neda Agha-Soltan. We got the face of Zahra Soltani, aka Neda Soltani. So keen were large sections of the media to broadcast a face that they ever changed Neda Soltani’s name to Neda Soltan to fit the narrative.

neda-soltaniNEDA Agha-Soltan, aka Neda Agha Soltani (who is alive), is the unwitting face of Iran’s revolution II. And now the media are getting to know her, and owning her. First up, getting her name right.

Iranians are looking not to Barack Obama but Neda Soltani for inspiration in their power struggle with the regime.

Examiner:

Her death may be a “divine calling.” Yes, this is what her name means in Persian. Some say, everything is written, our lives, and our destiny.

Amptoons:

The name Neda translates into “The Call” in Farsi.

How The Media Betrayed Neda Soltani

neda-soltaniNEDA Soltani is not dead. As Anorak told you, Neda Agha-Soltan is not Neda Soltani. For one thing Neda Soltan is dead – and Neda Soltani is not. (You can see the pictures here.)

The living Neda Soltani was disturbed to suddenly see her image being used everywhere, online, on television and in the press…

Because of the confusion, the ‘real’ Neda Soltani in the photo can no longer use her Facebook page or display her photo, and has fought an uphill battle trying to get individuals and the media to stop using it.

Here’s a list of people who in celebrating/ jumping on the bandwagon/ mourning the death of Neda Soltan renamed her Neda Soltani. Neda Soltan belongs to the media now, and so do Neda Soltani, Nada Agha Soltani and many others.
