Nu Psych: The new age of psychedelic music

BELIEVE it or not, there’s a new age of psychedelic music upon us. Not so much the re-dawning of the age of Aquarius, but rather, a bunch of snotty brats all making experimental pop-music without the need to badger you about some awful political cause.

This is music made to frazzle your brains, rattle your eyes and shake your arse.

And it isn’t just ’60s revivalism either – these bands have managed to capture the ’60s counter culture’s lightning in a bottle, but mixed it up with meths and cough syrup, to make music that can veer wildly from inyerface hooligan garage rock, to Super 8 sunshine jangly pop, to cosmic prog-pop.

YOU may not know it, but The Beatles split-up in 1969. Since then, they’ve released more albums than when they were actually together.

Of course, most Beatle-nuts can’t help it and will fall salivating onto just about any Beatle release. They’re still capable of fun surprises – no-one expected the ‘Love’ album (with Cirque du Soleil) to contain a stone-cold banger like the Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows mash-up.

It also featured on a video game with a load of fun psychedelic effects.

There’s been a host of radio session LPs, outtakes, ‘naked’ versions and, of course, remasters. One thing all fans of the Fab Four can agree on is that the original stereo versions of their famous LPs are a pain in the arse.

Madonna previews new track ahead of Super Bowl 2012!

MADONNA, who simultaneously is quite fit, yet somehow turning into Iggy Pop, is readying herself for the huge Super Bowl halftime show. Last year, 111 million tuned in. The Black Eyed Peas saw their career half-ruined by a botched halftime show, so don’t underestimate the power of it.

And Queen Madge has promised that she won’t be having any ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ during the show, which is a small mercy for everyone really.

Not only is she gearing up for the big game, but she’s allowing it to influence the new video for her imminent single, ‘Gimme All Your Luvin”, which stars some of the Glee cast, as well as Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.

PJ Harvey Doesn’t Like New Bands And Thinks New Music Is Dull (Which Is Rich)

FOX-HUNTING supporter and Mercury-nominated (we’re legally obliged to write that in sadly) PJ Harvey has branded modern music ‘dull’ and ‘unoriginal’ despite making tedious LPs that lean far too heavily on whatever the alt.zeitgeist of the day is in the first place.

Speaking to the NME, Polly Harvey said:

“Not for a lack of knowing it exists, but because I find nothing that interests me.”
