Fake TV Burglar Prevention: Cheaper Than The BBC
FakeTV Burglar Deterrent Device.
FakeTV accurately simulates the light output of a real television. The effect of scene changes, fades, swells, flicks, on-screen motion, and color changes look just they came from a real TV. From outside the house, it looks just like someone is watching a real television. The potential burglar thinks the home must be occupied, so he moves on to an easier target.
I watched one for hours - cheaper thn the BBC!

Wouldn’t it be easier to leave a REAL tv on?

Even a simple web cam can do a good job on recording a burglar, not to mention more expensive security systems. I use web cab that can detect motion. It’s amazing how burglars strike whenever they see an opportunity. Now, when the vacation time is coming I took an extra step to make my home, and not only car secure. I have purchased a CD with burglar deterrent sounds, which I play every day in my apartment when I leave it for work. And I will play it non stop when I go on vacation. The sound quality is OK, nothing spectacular, but since you are listening to it through the closed door, it works great.

For Smith,
It’s not the same thing as catching a burglar on a webcam - by then they have gone (along with your possensions).
And Albert, it would be a false economy leaving a real TV on as FakeTV consumes a fraction of the electric as well as plasma and LCD TVs have a finite life and it would be a hell of a lot more expensive to replace one of those!
When they release in the UK, i’m getting one - [link removed - dr]
