Peta Endangers Bears By Banning Guards’ Hats
YOU’RE not allowed to fight beardswith dogs, and very soon you might not be allowed to use bears as hats.
The Ministry of Defence is to meet with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) to discuss alternatives to the bearskin hats worn by guards at Buckingham Palace - hats worn since when Napoleon met his Waterloo.
If Peta gets its way, then very soon there will no uses at all for bears, and they will be slaughtered, or be forced to breed with German polar bears to make the much-fancied panda bear.
The BBC reports that Peta “has approached Vivienne Westwood and Stella McCartney to design a new shape for the 18in hat”.
Anyone know how tall a traffic one is, it being the kind of headwear Brits overseas wear these days, or which condoms can be inflated to such a traditional height..?

Surely there IS another use for the traditional bearskin tifta - as currently worn by Buckingham Palace guards.
This distinctive headwear should surely now become part of the standard uniform of Police Community Support officers. As these officers are all so short and insignificant the bearskin would help the public pick them out more easily in a crowd.
With its long hertitage of being worn by guardsmen the bearskin is perfectly adapted to anyone whose duties involve standing around and doing nothing. Therefore it’s ideally suited to the Community Support Officer’s role
Also Community Support Officers are not not allowed to dive in and save the lives of drowning children- there’s little danger of the bearskins getting wet

Oh wild - Peta could be saving both the bears and the lads from getting shot.
I’m imagining a chapeau that Vivienne Westwood might come up with and what self respecting 6′7″, size 16 bovva-booted, rather broad shouldered bloke will want to be seen fainting at the passing out parade in it?
