Muslim Extremism in Britain: Ban Hizb ut-Tahrir

ED Husain was once part of the secret cell structure of Hizb ut-Tahrir, an extremist organisation banned in most Muslim countries. The group promotes racism, calls suicide bombers martyrs, and urges Muslims to kill Jewish people.

Writing in the Telegraph, Husain says HT had “free rein on university and college campuses” in the UK “where it advocated that British Muslims were a community whose allegiance lay not with Queen and country, but to a coming caliph in the Middle East.

“This caliph would instruct us to act as agents of the caliphate in Britain, and open a ‘home front’ by assisting the expansionist state. We believed that all Arab governments were not sufficiently “Islamic” and were liable to removal; entire populations would submit to the army of the caliph, or face extinction.”

And this is not a load of nutters dreaming of the revolution. As Husein writes: “All this can easily be dismissed as extremist claptrap. But the mindset and ideology that spouts this worldview - Islamism - is entrenched in certain sections of the Muslim community in Britain.”

What to do? Is it worth even arguing with such rabid hatred?

“To argue that dialogue will win over extremist Islamists is a myth; theirs is a mindset that is not receptive to alternative views, and does not recognise the sacred nature of all human life.”

We should outlaw the enemy.

“The rhetoric of jihad introduced by Hizb ut-Tahrir in my days was the preamble to 7/7 and several other attempted attacks. By proscribing Hizb ut-Tahrir, we would send a strong message to extremists that Britain will not tolerate intolerance. Yes, we are a free country with a proud tradition of liberty, but it has always had limits.”

Husain has spoken out. And surely the nutcases who seek to divide and conquer will turn on him.

Time to ban this odious group of anti-Semites and race haters. Time for British Muslims to turn on the enemy within.

  1. 1 John Simpson Says:

If Hizb ut-Tahrir was linked to terrorism why would ACPO argue that it knew of “no intelligence to justify a Hizb ut-Tahrir ban”? In July 2006, Bob Beckley, the lead spokesman on community policing ad counter-terrorism issues for the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) told the Financial Times: “I see no reason why Hizb ut-Tahrir should be banned on the basis of available evidence. I haven’t seen anything suggesting they have apologised for or glorified terrorism. I might not like their views but that doesn’t mean that they are criminal and that is an important distinction we have to make.”

  2. 2 Kevin Wills Says:

Seems every Tom, Dick, Harry, and Ed can now claim to be a former “Islamic extremist” and become rich by selling the public what it wants to hear — that Muslims and Islam are irreconcilable with modernity and western society.

  3. 3 Ali Says:

Kevin, my thoughts entirely… there is obviosuly good money to be made in claiming to be an ex-extremist. Maybe instaed of working 5 days a week I should give it a try myself!

Much of the claims above do not tie into the objectives of that group, unless one is an avid Fox News viewer, but makes good reading for the lunatic right wingers out there….

If the publishers had any sense (maybe a contradiction there) they could easily check these ‘facts’ through a bit if basic research instead of adding to the haze of confusion around these contentious issues.

  4. 4 Anorak Says:

One problem with secretive and shadowy organisations is that when one purporting to be from the lair speaks we take notice. We want to know what goes on. We crave sensation. And perhaps we fail to spot the obvious - a boaster playing the big man.

  5. 5 Hannah Weiss Says:

I have just read Husain’s profile on Wikipedia - seems like there are a lot of discrepancies in his book. I wonder how much the “commercial factor” is in play - not wanting to be too cynical it surely seems like a lucrative career move to write such a book in the current climate. In any case, I wonder if anyone can corroborate the author’s allegations about a variety of organisations. From what I have read, East London Mosque is not known for its terrorist links!

  6. 6 risaalah Says:

reading the above article it is clear this is what is termed as propaganda
just keeping to the above quotes

…. entire populations would submit to the army of the caliph, or face extinction.”

where has this person got his info he seems extremely illiterate when it comes to islam. the prophet / islamic law is clear you are not allowed to attack civilians ie real non combatants. so it is clear from this, either he has personal isuues with this organisation or a money making scam feeding the freanzy war mongering minds as he is not the first and most definately will not be the last to use the status quo to make money.
But if you are serious then go to the organisation,s website which talks about islamic rule and encourages email Q/A
