Madeleine McCann - A Lesson From History And Gypsies
IN the US, the talk is of the chidl’s right to roam and overprotective parents.
And this caught my eye:
Yesterday our daily history section mentioned the 1892 case of Mamie Schwartz, a five-year-old St.Paul girl kidnapped in June of 1892. I said I’d check the Strib’s archives papers to see how the story was covered – it was supposedly sensational enough to grip the public mind for months, and you wonder how they handled these matters in the days before Amber Alerts. The following may surprise you – but remember that papers were different then: dense, wordy, mostly unillustrated, with a few ads for scrofula cures and painless lobotomies punctuating endless expanses of dry tiny type.
No big headlines. No finger poiting. Less anxiety and talk of “every parent’s worst nightmare” - a nightmare the tabloid papers do their best to make so real.
The big story: an English Aeronaut, Prof. William Bissell, jumped from a balloon and parachuted to the ground. A few inches below, these terse remarks: “Mamie Schwartz, a 5-year old girl, has been missing from her home at 174 East Seventh Street since Saturday afternoon.” It ran on the bottom of page 5.
Some things don’t change: the Sun says a new lead suggests gypsies might have taken Madeleine McCann…

I am sure that we have all made mistakes at some time, regarding our children, that does not, however, make us bad parents.
This couple make a mistake, granted, but do these people who are being downright nasty, not read the rest of the news?
What about the mother who stood by and watched her daughter being raped, what about the mothers who go on holiday and leave their kids unattended, and what about the mothers who “love” their boyfriends so much, that they allow them to shake their babies to death? These are the mothers we should be nasty about, not this couple.
For gods sake, yes the McCanns made a mistake, but they are paying for it now, so please leave them alone to try to find their daughter.
I wholeheartedly admire their strength and courage in their plight, and will support them until Madeleine is found.

I am for ever being amazed at the way fellow human beings react, in such a holier than thou attitude. How in the first place could someone walk in to someone elses appartment and take a sleeping child away for God knows what purpose, this child was loved cared for and happy, she wasn’t abused or mistreated and needed saving. So whoever took her because they put their needs above the life of the childs. Then we have those who point the finger and blame her parents, shouting “neglect”They want us to believe they have raised a family and never made a mistake, never left a baby in a pram unattended while they nipped in a shop, or left the baby in the car or the toddler playing in the garden?left the baby on the sofa and took your eyes off them for a second? Well I know of many who have put their children to bed then sat outside in the back garden enjoying a nice summer evening with friends. they are all innocent actions but they could all lead to the loss of a child, “there but for the grace of God” most of us got away with it. The McCanns didn’t,now if they stay and keep searching they are damned, yes they have two other children, but it doesn’t make any difference if they had twenty two more children. They have lost one, one who could be going through hell and as any parent who love their children will tell you, they are going through that hell with her every minute of every day. I am sure they do not want your pity or your sympathy they need your help and your prayers. They sure have mine. God Bless.

I wonder why the indications leading to a gypsy camp are not taken serious. Is it “politically incorrect” to assume that the little girl was stolen by gypsies? Actually, there IS a big gypsy population in this area - and any policeman will confirm that high crime rates among gypsies are more than just racist prejudice.

“If releasing a balloon makes us feel we are doing something to help or to lift spirits of people who are affected by these terrible events”
Affected by these events? Can we re-word it to say, “People who left three toddlers alone in an unlocked ground-floor apartment, even though they are well-educated (doctors), and child care was available”?
Yes, that’s more like it.
I am very angry for what these people have done to heir child through their negligence. VERY angry. And now they want pity and sympathy? Maddie gets my sympathy, and those twins, who are still with neglectful parents. The guy can’t even hang on to his wallet. Give me a break.

To those like ladonna, who are not sure what good releasing a balloon for Madeleine from Newcastle could be. I will highlight the significance:
There was an appeal for a nationwide balloon release for tommorrow(FRIDAY 22nd June) . The reason is to highlight awareness of the missing children, not only Madeleine..
I am sorry if you think it is irrelevant, but to me anything that can help keep the profile high for Madeleine and other children who have been abducted has to be a good thing….Also, for anyone out there like myself that has spent hours, days and weeks worrying and feeling sick hoping little Madeleine and other will be returned home. If releasing a balloon makes us feel we are doing something to help or to lift spirits of people who are affected by these terrible events..I am there, to do whatever it takes.I feel sorry for you,if you have missed the whole point of the exercise.
Or it could be that you are totally unaware of this event planned for 22nd June….i appeal to you and everyone that reads this ….wherever you live …whether it is NEWCASTLE or NEW YORK let off some balloons .
for those who haven’t heard of the release….type in balloon release for Madeleine…read up…then you decide. Hope this helps out….

Of course blame the Gypsies! They won’t fight back!
June 21st, 2007 at 11:00 am
Would it really? if you believe that…..and, as you say try not to criticise.
Perhaps the McCanns could help by looking after their children, a fairly obvious observation
June 21st, 2007 at 10:22 am
Hi there,
What a world we live in?!!
Does it matter if someone wants to release a balloon, if it raises public awareness then that is what counts.
We should try not to criticise what other people are doing or not doing.
At least Maddy’s parents are bringing together a system which is in aid of all the children that go missing.
If we all did a little something to help in our own way the world would be a much better place.

Gerry has lost his wallet, oh my goodness!! The whole of Europe must come to standstill and a moments silence. Bankers must spell out ‘Find Gerry’s Wallet’. People must be seen to be caring. Do you have the link for the new Fund?
Has he looked down the back of the sofa yet,or is he leaving that to Interpol?
June 21st, 2007 at 8:49 am
Please help Gerry McCann find his stolen wallet aswell as his daughter Madeleine of course. A poster is available for download here:

I dont believe any of this gypsies thing. IT took 3 weeks for him to say something. IF he care so much to help like he said he would have call the police right an then.NOT even the police have any clue.I think the media is misleading the police and all of us
June 20th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
I wonder how long it will take the ever so laid back portugese police to follow up on this sighting!!!!???.
June 20th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
The man who may have seen Madeleine , Maria, said it was 3 weeks ago. I think its sadly pi in the sky now, as he didn’t tell anyone until now.
June 20th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
was press has disclosed that madeleine may have been abducted by gypsies?
June 20th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
Going way back didn’t the Lindburghs use a lot of publicity to find their son, but that may have been as they were so high profile anyway
June 20th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
Then again maybe not………….what does this mean.
Sorry dont understand this reply.
So all these theories, rumours & gossip reported as Newa must be a good thing as it highlights the story.
I meant that the publicity her parents are generating must be a good thing, NOT the rumours and gossip, as I feel that this is distressing to her parents who are will obviously be very distressed anyway.
June 20th, 2007 at 4:39 pm
Ann : “I think that anything at all that can highlight this little girl’s disappearance can only be a good thing.”
So all these theories, rumours & gossip reported as Newa must be a good thing as it highlights the story.
Ann : “This must be very distressing for her parents, hearing about these theories, and then being let down, when nothing is found.”
Then again maybe not.

ignore me…I misread the name…
A long day.
June 20th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
Hi Paul
Sorry I dont understand your post. Who is Martin Schwartz? What do you mean about learning a lesson about no publicity?
Is this in relation to my post above? have you got the wrong person, or are you referring to another post on another thread somewhere?
June 20th, 2007 at 3:37 pm
I think that anything at all that can highlight this little girl’s disappearance can only be a good thing.
Where did the info come from that gypsies may have taken Madeleine?
Would this really be so suprising if it were true? This must be very distressing for her parents, hearing about these theories, and then being let down, when nothing is found.
I hope that this is the case, and not paedophiles, as this would be unbearable for her family.
Hope she is found soon. God bless her.
I also think that this couple are just so desperate to find their daughter, that they will do anything in their power to try to publicise their case, I know I would.
June 20th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Why wait 3 weeks to come forward? There were posters all over the Algarve when this sighting was made.
Maybe gypsies are involved but I think the PJ really want to get a hold of Germany’s answer to Garry Glitter. Check out this story from Tenerife:
http://www.tenerifenews.com/cms/front_content.php?client=1&lang=1&idcat=70&idart=6198
and then take a look at this guy’s wanted sheet:
http://www.fredigroup.org/site/Recherche_inverse/Adultes_pedocriminels/Schulz_Shanti_Serano/recherche_chef_secte.htm
He could easily be in Portgual. He has money, resources and maybe even a yacht.
June 20th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Anorak,
What do you mean by this? “IN the US, the talk is of the chidl’s right to roam and overprotective parents.” Is it an article you found somewhere?
June 20th, 2007 at 3:05 pm
Joanne,
Mamie Schwartz was found alive a year later see http://www.buzz.mn/?q=blog . No real publicity no scare stories is there a lesson to be learnt ?
June 20th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
@Debbie
Just curious. How will sending up a balloon in Newcastle, Australia, help in finding Madeleine McCaan?
June 20th, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Well any news is good news i guess….it is a little disheartening though to not hear if this is true, that police have not swooped on the apparent “camp” where the man followed the gypsies to. I am tired of the dead ends that keep coming up.I guess that is because like the rest of the world…we all want Madeleine to be found as soon as possible and not be harmed. I pray that she is with the gypsies, that she is found safe and well. I think this man should be given the benefit of the doubt. I think this whole sordid mess will be finished once and for all within 3 wks. I just have a feeling…..wait and see if i am wrong. I will be sending up a balloon this Friday from Newcastle Australia to mark 50 Days…my work friends think i am mad…but i think they are mad for not doing the same as me…trying to help find this little angel. I will send up 100 balloons when she is found. ALL PRAY FOR HER RETURN PLEASE!
June 20th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
I wonder if she ever turned up.
Gypsies? Well anything is possible at the moment.
Lets face it. We have no idea what happened to her. This could be another crank, a mistaken identity, or it could actually have been Madeleine. When Ben Needham went missing, the most popular theory at the time was that he had been stolen by Gypsies.
It wouldn’t shock me if it were true. I googles the South Afican guy. He is a genuine pilot and not an ecapee from an asylum, so hopefully he isn;t just any one crank.
While there are bound to be hundreds of psychic nutters, liars and hoaxers, I am inclined to give this chap the benefit of the doubt.
