Gerry McCann’s Blog

MADELEINE McCann: Writes GerryMcCann on his blog:

“Life in Rothley is definitely quietening down although daily photographs of us leaving the house still seem ‘newsworthy’ which I find incredible…

“The media frenzy is gradually subsiding with just occasional unsubstantiated reports of ‘evidence’ appearing…

“Contrary to some other reports Kate and I do NOT accept that Madeleine is ‘probably’ dead. We know it is a possibility, however the fact there is no evidence Madeleine has been seriously harmed gives us ongoing hope that she will be found alive.”

But then his blog is newsworthy. Or not? And it makes a change to us hearing from Clarence Mitchell PR…

  1. Elizabeth Says:

Also newsworthy, apparently, is Kate’s feeling that nobody likes her because she is so thin and pretty. (Sniff.)
If my mother were reporting all my private gripe-sessions to the media I would tell her to put a lid on it. Not what Kate needs right now, Mrs. Healy - it only makes her appear more petulant and narcissistic than ever.

  2. toni.b Says:

beam me up scotty, or is that Gerrys Log????

  3. star Says:

hey…does this work? No space for the addition fact?

  4. annie Says:

What a shallow comment “If I were 2 stones heavier etc. etc….” The sooner Kate McCann wakes up to the fact that is not her “image” that is important here - it is the fact that she left her little girl and her brother and sister to the mercy of whoever. A twenty five stone all in wrestler would come in for much of the same had they acted in that way - So Kate - just stop trying to justify yourself through vanity - any signs of the public not “liking ” you has nothing to do with your frail frame. I know lots of size 10 “good, caring mothers”

  5. star Says:

Is Kate serious? People dont like her cause she does not have a large bosom? That woman is odd i tell you…..
Have not been on for a bit, so i guess i will have to play catch up now and see if there is any new info on this poor child.

Here in Ohio, USA, they located the bodies of 2 elderly woman, missing since April. Looks like they got lost on a back road, found an abandoned farm and died there, one in the car and one outside of it. The family has been searching all this time, how sad they were not found sooner.

I pray that Madeleine is still alive out there and will be found!!

  6. toni.b Says:

so now even Gerry is disagreeing with HIS PR guy, this is good

  7. Dawn h Says:

do remember, though I agree and disagree with much of how this entire mess has and is handled and “spun”, and simply want to focus on sweet Madeleine and pray for her safety, we do not know FOR FACT Mrs. Healy EVER MADE those comments, thus do not know if Kate ever REALLY MADE THE “2 stones” comments… seems nothing we read can be taken as fact…EXCEPT there IS a CHILD MISSING. I pray she is found safe and well.

  8. mar Says:

Notice the lack of “leaks” to the Portuguese press lately? Seems like they are in a real lock-down mode over there.

  9. Andrew Says:

“Leaving no two stones left unturned”

  10. Jane Says:

We can look at Kate Mccann’s comments with regards to her weight and looks and call it Narcisitic, but without a true understanding of why she says this, this is just a meaningless judgement. Kate may have overheard people in a shopping centre say this about her for instance, and may have been upset at the superficial comment. She may also have been upset at the lack of empathy with regards to trauma and trauma response. Numbing of feeling is a part of trauma, and it enables a person to cope. this is because the trauma is very severe, it can be too painful to fully connect with, and we employ a defense. It is the same reason people in war combat may become very calm or rape victims feel as though they are watching the trauma from afar. But people who did not know this called her cold and aloof. She was judged without understanding or empathy, and in my opinion, this has been a secondary trauma for her, making worse the loss of her daughter.

Who would be lacking in empathy in such a situation (a narcisitic trait), Kate or her judges?

  11. Anna Says:

Why is Gerry fighting with his PR man? It was stated that a probability existed that Madeleine is dead, but the press printed the word probably, which means a different thing. I think he was trying to clarify the difference

  12. Anna Says:

I don’t think most of us care for kate’s body size. Actually the opposite. But the media have really blown it out of proportion. so much else was said in that interview, including how Kate and Gerry are trying to cope and not break down because madeleine remains their priority. After Kate was criticised for not crying, it would make sense to emphasise this part of what was said. But no, there are endless articles with regards to Kate’s weight! then we blame Kate for making us aware of it! What backwards logic.

  13. kenny Says:

i have to say i cant believe it has gone so far,Im anoyed for the fact they faced no charges for leaving the children alone.i wonder if it had been the same for anyone else.seems like a law for the rich and one for the poor.If it had been a poor person in the same situration things would be diffrent.guess its true when they say some people are above the law.
    kenny

  14. simon Says:

seems like they groomed the puplic in to believing what they want to hear.they def know more than they are letting on.
    simon

  15. Anna Says:

We don’t know how social services has responded to the children being left alone. It was a fault on the side of the Mccanns, but they are paying for it. What worse thing could happen to them? I think that being on holiday is about leaving behind worries and difficulties, and I am sure that includes crime. Being on holiday is about being off guard. I am sure that if the Mccanns could take back the moment, rewind and take the children with them or put them in daycare, they would.

I don’t know about one law for the rich and one for the poor. Sometimes money buys a better lawyer, but law is often about finding loopholes (from both sides).

  16. mmouseki Says:

have to agree they know more than letting on.and also does seem like they have fed lies to the puplic, they should go in to acting they would make millions.why is it the social services have turned a blind eye that if they left the children alone.what kind of message does this send out.guess its ok to leave your kids alone. (yeah right) well everythings seems to be pointing at them and sooner or later people will see them for who they are great actors,
    debby

  17. barry Says:

    guess money talks,

  18. Anna Says:

We don’t know what the Mccanns know, but we do know what the media tell us, and this is often from unconfirmed sources close to the couple or police. With all of the implications, continually, we are bound to doubt even the most innocent person. It is like broken telephone, where stories get twisted. All stories punctuate certain aspects, and reporters often interpret what is going on.

What we emphasise within our own minds is often only a part of the story, and most of the press stories are already taken out of context. If we believe the media, we are open to all kinds of distortion everyday.

  19. Andrew Says:

“the fact there is no evidence Madeleine has been seriously harmed ”
We won’t know how true that is until the forensic evidence becomes public. Gerry’s blog is a great insight in to his scary world. He should be encoraged to expose himself more

  20. Anna Says:

Why would Gerry be exposing himself though? He may not know anything either really. I think he probably wants to believe nothing has happened to Madeleine. I think any small degree of hope would be so important because it takes away the dreadful pain of Madeleine possibly being dead.

If we look at what the press imply, that the McCanns killed Madeleine, it would mean they were both completely mad, to carry on with such a public appeal knowing that there was no truth in what was being said. Include their friends, supposedly involved. That makes up a lot of mad people. I could understand one of them being mad, but not so many!! it just doesn’t make sense.

  21. Kyle Says:

The more the McCanns and their hired team or family speak, the worse it gets for them. I’m amazed they have any supporters left after blatently attempting to run the investigation via leaks. It will be interesting to discover what the UK and Portuguese police find out about Kate and Gerry’s backgrounds and also their party-holiday friends. We have been shoved untruths on this couple long enough. I don’t believe anything anymore coming out of the McCann camp. About Kate, especially. I’m just so sorry the McCanns felt nightly partying was more important than looking after their three wee ones. Madeleine paid the ultimate price.

  22. R.T. Says:

Why did Gerry removed past blog entries? There for a while, they contained some rather interesting material I’m sure the police must have noticed. I’m beginning to think Gerry is trying to frame Kate. The Healy’s won’t stand a chance against the McCanns if it comes down to a verbal and public battle.
Gerry is an interesting guy. Scary, though.

  23. viqu Says:

What nasty comments from people who really know nothing about the Mcanns.
    Its sick.

  24. annie Says:

They are all wierd - there does not seem to be a consistant statement coming from anywhere - either the McClann, the Police in the Uk or the Police in Portugal - or the press all over the world. As far as the results of the dna are concerned - I could have obtained, analised and proved the identity of the wearer of the Turin Shroud quicker than this lot is taking.

  25. Anna Says:

Well said, viqu. the problem is though that the media come up with all kinds of stories, often repeated from portugese newspapers and then called smears. But why would the press want to print smears? It is no wonder the Mccans have had to hire PR people to help out. It must be absolutely unbearable to have to fight continually accusations that you have been accused of killing your beloved child. What the family must be going through I cannot bear to imagine.

i don’t know why the press are going on such a mission, finding a fragment of a story and running with it for days, only to have it denied days or weeks later. There was evidence, there wasn’t. Stories sound contradictory, but aren’t coming from the McCanns, and then there is public doubt. But it is generated on a daily basis. Journalists write about how they never liked Gerry, that Kate is cold, that Murrat is being framed. For goodness sake.

We call Kate mad, vain, but it is the press who are running with stories to do with her looks, her hilights, her running when she should supposedly be in a mental institution, mad with grief, but if she was, she would be called indulgent. What kind of mother breaks down instead of staying strong and logical for her child, the press would ask. The woman can’t do anything right, and all of this when her lovely little child is missing.

Who is a perfect mother? There isn’t one. Which one of us hasn’t lost a child for a second in a supermarket. That is all it takes if somebody wants to abduct a child. It is unusual and rare. But it can happen to anybody who sends a child down the road to play with a friend, who turns her back in a shop to look at a product. Why the need to cast blame, to sneer at misfortune?

Kate is a beautiful woman. She took care of herself. It is sad that she is so thin, because she is this way only because her lovely girl was taken from her. We live in a society obsessed with thinness, makeovers, glamour magazines, diets, designer clothes and skin care products. Yet we dare to call Kate McCann vain, for carrying on, for cutting her hair in the face of trauma. Yet it is normality she needs to hold on to just to get by.

The McCanns need empathy, support. Not to hear stories about bodies dumped in roadworks ditches. Come on, madeleine will never be a body to them, and how could they hear about dumping their beloved child without a raging pain?

Until evidence proves otherwise, the McCanns are inocent, and Kate is a mother surviving the loss of her daughter. Leave her alone.

  26. annie Says:

No Anna, what the McCanns need to do is get completely out of the limelight, and admit that they were wrong to go down that road. It was never going to do anything to find their daughter, and from day one a lot of folk, including me, thought that it was a BIG mistake to embark on such a media based circus. The police in Portugal were hindered by the press coverage and also hindered by the huge hype created by the McCanns. They should have been intelligent enough to realise that the less publicity created in the days following the “abduction” if that was the case, the better chance the police had to follow trails and leads. If it is true (and I have not seen it confirmed) but IF the McCanns or their family and friends contacted Sky news soon after their daughter went missing - then I really think that they need to take a reality check on life - I cant believe that anyone so naive could be a doctor

  27. Anna Says:

But this is the whole point, Annie. THe media won’t let the McCanns out of the limelight. No newspaper would be printing the story just because Gerry wanted them to. They do it because it sells. The McCanns spoke to the media because they wanted help in finding their daughter, an awareness of Madeleine and what she looked like. On some level, they must have known that they may be criticised, but really I think it was about putting out a massive allert for this little girl.

The media have run with the story on a level that must threaten to drown the McCanns, and I think they are trying to get out of the way, and this is why they have a PR person. The stories are not covering Madeleine now, but rather a game of cluedo, with various sources leaking like sieves, often with information which may not even be factual. Where could the McCanns go to get away from the story? They keep trying to direct focus onto Madeleine, but are getting nowhere. The media are covering a guessing game with regards to who harmed Madeleine.

Look at it critically, the work of the media. Anyone who gets their attention is hounded. It may have been naive to contact them, but so often we think awareness of a situation, including abduction, will help. Ultimately the media should be there to inform, to create an awareness. Not to crucify.

  28. annie Says:

Anna - be it to encourage funds to roll in or to put themselves firmly in the limelight - the McCanns have caused all of the problems that they are now facing - they have been very, very irresponsible

  29. mar Says:

    Anna,

What I’ve been seeing ia a Press anxious to sell and keep on selling the McCann sensationalism. I don’t see this press unwaveringly “crucifying” Gerry and Kate nearly as much as picking up on any innuendo or scrap of info from a close “source” that might delight the public. It doesn’t look so lopsided to me, but then I don’t think the McCanns are as innocent as you do either.
Leaving your child for a moment in the grocery store is not the same as leaving 3 tiny children for an entire evening in a foreign country, out of sight and earshot. I said it before on this forum: If it were you, wouldn’t you worry about one of your children waking up sick and not finding any adult there? No problem with going out and having a good time, but for heaven’s sake, someone (a nanny???) should have been with those kids. Beyond that, yes, I am sure the McCanns are suffering mightily.

  30. Anna Says:

I also battle to understand why so much money has been given to one family. Not only for the fund to find madeleine, but also for legal fees. There are lots of things about this case which don’t make sense.

there are two arguments to the stories though. The McCanns put themselves into the public eye. I still believe to help with finding Madeleine. In this, they brought a lot of attention to themselves. My argument though isn’t whether the McCanns should have done this or not. I think that it is the way the media are handling what is going on which is more of an issue. What is the balance between responsible reporting and running with smeers against a couple? Where do we find the balance?

So many of the stories are filled with allegations only to be withdrawn weeks later. The media choose to hilight certain aspects, disregard others. Photos of the McCanns are chosen to make them look devastated or ill tempered, depending on the needs of the press.

We are shown images of a family, a husband and wife who are incredibly close, who care for one another, who have lost a daughter. And then we are told a different story. but is it about the McCanns anymore as individual people, who are suffering and traumatised, or is it now about public appetite, a desire to know what has happened.

children are extremely vulnerable, and in some ways incredibly helpless at the hands of merciless adults. Madeleine’s disappearance strikes a cord in so many of us. We hope she will be found alive, that she will be ok. But there seems to be a need as well to declare that this could not have happened to us. We blame the victims, the McCanns. But what about the perpatrator? The person who went into a home not his/her own, and took from a bed a little girl and seperated her from her parents?

We don’t see massive numbers of articles explaining the psychology of such a character, a person who violates the very core of trust. Instead it is Kate’s psyche which is brought into question. Is she sane, does she care, was Madeleine shouted at. It is a similar situation to accusing a rape victim of wearing a short skirt. A woman could be lying naked next to a man, and if she says “No.” It should be just that. It is a man’s responsibility to control himself. Why blame the victim, especially in mass media?

It is a sad story, especially for Madeleine, and we long for closure, to understand what has happened to this little girl. But is it so vital to point fingers at the McCanns , which has happened from early times, rather than at somebody with far more dangerous tendencies?
