Madeleine McCann: Hotline In Morocco And Portuguese Justice Minister

Paulo Reis writes on Madeleine McCann:

Most calls to McCann hotline report Madeleine’s sightings in Morocco

The hotline set up by the McCann, in Spain, received 275 calls until 8.00pm of yesterday, October 25, according to Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia. Most calls were from British citizens that have been on holidays in Morocco and gave information about alleged sightings of Madeleine in that North-African country.

After the McCann were named as formal suspects, British Press identified at least seven new witnesses , most of them British citizens, claiming not only that they saw Madeleine in Morocco, but also that they contacted Portuguese police and had no answer of just faced a refusal to accept that information. Portuguese Police requested Interpol help to investigate the background and personal connections of those alleged witnesses and, after that, there were no more references about those witnesses in the British Press.

Sources from Metodo 3, the Spanish detectives agency hired by the McCann to managed the hotline, told La Vanguardia that “Portuguese police has give up the idea that Madeleine died in a accidente” where the parents were involved and now “they think, (like Metodo 3 detectives) that Madeleine was kidnapped.” The head of Polícia Judiciária, Alípio Ribeiro, told another Spanish newspaper , a few days ago, that the strongest line of inquiry was the one that considered Madeleine was dead.

The Portuguese Justice Minister, Mr. Alberto Costa, who is in Spain to participate in a European meeting, told journalists that new initiatives have been launched, in the investigation and said that he trusts the capacity of Policia Judiciária to solve the case.

  1. 1 Andrew Says:

The “hotline” has been set up there because it’s illegal to do it in Portugal. The “hotline” is only so the McCann’s can take “anonymous tip-offs” (make things up) to make it appear as though Madeleine is alive, and to attempt to place strain on the Police in regards to investigating the McCann’s. I believe the Police have good reason to believe Madeleine is dead. The McConn’s can do or say anything they like, it’s just another possible consipracy/obstruction/perjury/perverting the course of justice charge for them to face in future.

    Second!

  3. 3 Sally Says:

Looks as if Andrew has a conspiracy theory all of his own!

  4. 4 Anorak Says:

    first!

  5. 5 Dawgbarph Says:

This is complete BS! You people have no more proof against the McCann’s than the Portuguese police which is NOTHING!

  6. 6 Andrew Says:

    Fourth!

  7. 7 Cynic Says:

this might seem like an odd question…..but whatever happened to the Portuguese Detectives who were to fly to the UK “within days” - according to Sr Ribeiro, head of the PJ? you know, the ones who were going to put more questions to the McCann’s friends, over “discrepancies” in their accounts of the evening.

It’s now over a week since the gave the interview:

    <>

(Telegraph, 22/10/07, reporting the interview published earlier in El Pais, most likely having been given the preceding Friday)

Since when, things have gone very quiet on this topic.

Now, here’s a bit of speculation - those letters would have had to have been approved, before sending, by Judge Frios, the investigating Judge. Who’s in the past refused the PJ permission to further interview the McCanns, and it seems likely, blocked other requests, like the seizure of the famous laptop and “cuddle cat”.

So, I wonder if Ribeiro’s making these statements quite to publically was an attempt to railroad Frios into giving this the OK….?

If it doesn’t work, it’ll me humiliating for someone so senior to have gone public, and then failed to deliver.

Albeit not as embarrassing as the latest keystone cops moments with the McCanns and Murat’s cars…

  8. 8 Monica Says:

Anyone who STILL believes that the Mccanns are innocent are in complete denial!
Suspects conducting their own investigation - what a joke!

  9. 9 Dawgbarph Says:

Monica, if you believe they are guilty, let’s have the proof! Spit it out! Innocent until proven guilty is my belief.

  10. 10 Monica Says:

Dawgbarph, well what proof do you have that shows that they’re innocent? Were you there when this little girl went missing? Declaring that their innocent doesn’t make them innocent! If your child were abducted wouldn’t you answer all the questions that the police asked of you? Not to mention, how quickly did they flee Portugal as soon as they were named suspects? People who have nothing to hide - HIDE NOTHING!!!!!

  11. 11 Dawgbarph Says:

Monica——INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY! Ever hear of that?

  12. 12 femmy Says:

I agree - innocent til proven guilty !!!! they said they were leaving before they were made suspects, if they were real suspects and there was evidence why were they allowed to leave? they have answered everything asked, this is a cover up i agree, but reading between the lines its someone high up invovled who the authorities want to protect who is the guilty one, they just didnt expect so much publicity and thought it would fade into the background. So Monica your saying that all these people ringing up have been set up by the Mccanns? even though im sure the police will have names and addresses of them and find no connection. The Mccanns are being made scapegoats !!! they were probably given suspect status for a reason, ie to stop them talkin about the case when they returned home and also to give them certain rights

  13. 13 Joshua Says:

Femme, what planet are you on????? They were made suspects because they refused to answer the questions and Madeleine’s DNA was found in their hired car!!!!!!!!!
Monica, totally with you on this one!
