Moves To Reinterview The McCanns
AS reported: “Portuguese prosecutors have begun moves to reinterview witnesses in the case of missing Madeleine McCann.
“It is believed that they may want British police to speak to seven friends who dined with Madeleine’s parents on the night she was last seen.”
The spokesman for the McCanns, Clarence Mitchell, told BBC News 24 that if the reports were correct the family would welcome them.
“We have been saying for a long time now that, frankly, it’s about time that the police came to reinterview anyone they need to reinterview,” he said.
“We feel that any inconsistencies the police are concerned about in any original statements from Gerry and Kate’s friends can easily be cleared up through these reinterviews.
“And the sooner it happens the better, because we believe it will lead the police to realise there is no case against Gerry and Kate and it will lead to them being eliminated and their arguido [suspect] status lifted.”

They prepared their new timeline with their lawyers - it will be significantly different I expect!
If the PJ have more information than they know (e.g. CCTV showing who left the bar) then new timelines will be exposed as the garbage they are!

Portuguese Police consider that they have enough evidence to charge the McCann and some of their friends, without the need of a new round of inquiries to the Tapas Group. However, it was suggested that the process of sending rogatory letters could achieve a better result, with the cooperation of British authorities, after the McCann and some of their friends rejected a suggestion from Polícia Judiciária to go back to Portugal and submit to another questioning.
The suggestion was transmitted through Leicester Police but the McCann legal team put as a condition to accept it that the status of formal suspect of Gerry and Kate should be lifted, first. Portuguese police justified the suggestion as a faster way of going forward with the investigation, avoiding a complex and bureaucratic process for a new questioning to take place in UK, with rogatory letters to the Home Office.
But informal messages sent from the British Government to Lisbon stated clearly that the best way to get a full cooperation from British Police, while charging the McCann, would be to follow a more time-consuming process, in order to guarantee that it would take, at least three months to achieve it, as Gordon Brown fight for political survival can have him facing elections early than expected.
Today it was revealed that Esther McVey, one of the managers of the fund to help find Madeleine, resigned to concentrate on her role as a Conservative parliamentary candidate. Other members of the board have announced the intention to resign, but were requested to wait until contacts to replace them were finished. Around 75 % of the donations have been spent in payments to several private companies and other advisers and experts that have been helping the McCann to manage the Media campaign about Madeleine’s disappearance.
With almost no donations since the parents were named formal suspects, the fund is dwindling fast and the McCann are negotiating agreements for a movie and a book. At the same time, a new private detectives company – Hogan International - was hired, with a specific mission: to review all the police investigation and try to find “weak links”. Hogan International will also replace Metodo 3, the Spanish detectives company, at the end of their contract.

The Mail says this…
‘But the overwhelming public mood - particularly among parents of young children - has been one of compassion’
Oh really? I dont think so! Everyone I know was FURIOUS at the McCanns suggestion that we all abandoned our kids with the totally unacceptable lack of judgement displayed by the McCann ‘loving family unit’ (especially for a GP and a Consultant!).

What is the situation about commenting on forums if charges are made. I’m sure I read
Peter O saying he would no longer comment because of libel during a criminal case
If this is the case, what will happen to the commenting.
What has been the precedent on Anorak before eg: the Operation Ore case?
Thanks

The heart consultant has become a close friend of the father of 15-year-old Amy Smart, abducted in the US and found eight months later. Several movies were made about her while she was missing including The Amy Smart Story.
Her father has told Gerry he believes they helped keep his daughter in the public eye and led to her being spotted months later.
Last night, critics condemned the McCanns over the movie plans. On one blog, angry Pamela Blears, from Oldham, wrote: “From the day little Madeleine disappeared I have felt sympathy and compassion for the McCanns but this beggers belief.
“How can they think about making a film out of the tragedy when the poor child hasn’t even been found yet? How low can you get?”
Geoff Lowe, from New Zealand, wrote: “How could any genuine grieving parents be looking for this sort of money-making venture so soon after her disappearance?” An entry on another site said: “This is bad taste in the extreme. It is quite staggering.
“Surely the McCanns should be focusing all their efforts on finding Madeleine, not negotiating movie deals. It is just unbelievable.”
Kate and Gerry, both 39, deny being involved in their daughter’s disappearance and insist she was abducted from their holiday apartment while they dined with friends in a nearby Tapas restaurant.
Insiders said they would not appear on film personally but would give the makers interviews and access to personal background material that has never been seen.
The film would chart events leading up to Madeleine’s disappearance and her parents’ desperate hunt for her. It will also show how they went from victims to suspects and highlight their fight to prove their innocence.
Mr Mitchell said the couple would only co-operate with the film, or any other project, only when their status as suspects was lifted.
A source close to the couple added: “The film deal is possible. It is the sort of thing we would look at seriously because in one fell swoop we could resolve the funding of the search overnight.”

Their legal team said they would only return to Portugal if the arguido status was lifted - so much for them wanting to return to clear any misunderstandings, same as Kate saying she would take a lie detector test then turning it down when offered - f***ing liars - absolute bullshiters.
I am really getting fed up of the repetativeness of the press (re-cycling) and the bullshit from the Mcteam. Think I’ll take up knotting or watch paint dry, far more interesting.

Where’s the problem? What the McCanns want is one thing - what their legal team advices them is another. It’s the same with your lawyers as with your doctors. You may want yet another pint, but who could ever blame you if you obey to your doctors advice instead?

Noted this appeared in the MIrror today/tonight:
New lead on Madeleine
EXCLUSIVE
By Will Payne And Ryan Parry In Praia Da Luz 08/01/2008
A second British tourist has reported seeing a mystery man hanging around Madeleine McCann’s holiday flat just days before she vanished.
Gail Cooper, 50, said she was confronted by the “creepy” stranger at her holiday villa in Portugal.
He claimed he was collecting for an orphanage in the next village of Espiche.
She spotted him again two days later on Praia Da Luz beach. Gail, from Newark, Notts, said yesterday: “He was a horrible-looking man, really creepy, unkempt and dirty.
“He definitely wasn’t Portuguese. He scared me.”
Gail’s sighting came after the Mirror revealed yesterday that tourist Paul Gordon also spotted a mystery stalker skulking around the holiday complex. Brewery executive Paul confronted the man and was told the same story about the orphanage.
Gail reported the man to police after she arrived home and read about Madeleine’s disappearance.
They took a statement from her but Gail added: “I didn’t hear anything back, but I’m so sure this man had something to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.”
Last night, the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said both reports were being investigated.
I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A COMMENT ON THE ABOVE:
This is not the first person over the months I’ve read saying they’d made a statement to the police but never heard back.
Now, does the man looking ‘creepy’ and making the woman think he had something to do with that young child’s disappearance make it true? No, but could it be possible?
Last week over here a young woman was hiking with her dog and last seen talking with a ‘creepy’ man walking along with his dog. Since that sighting she disappeared and wasn’t seen since. Police started looking for this ‘creepy’ man, per other people having said they saw him with her, they found him - he has now been charged with her death - they took him in for questioning and he took them to where he put her body - brutalized and decapitated up the mountains. Further, in looking into the disappearance of a couple in that same area months ago and to no avail in finding them; they now have realized the similarity in him and his having been in the same area as they were. Now, he is being questioned on that couple’s disappearance.
Back to the movie being talked about - I’ve searched all articles on it I could find and all I could find is “sources close to the McCanns are saying” - it seems all speculations on them come from ’sources’ in the papers or on forums. I can’t find CM’s statement on the supposed movie, though, if anyone cares to give the paper and link he is directly stated on re the movie.
I prefer to stand firm on there are always two sides to every story until the Police tell me which story is correct.

What would you expect? The police takes the statement. The story about the orphanage is easy to verify. The police has either not found out who this person was, or they have found out and he was indeed collecting for an orphanage.

I don’t believe this is the one a person from the orphanage approached - was that not a man who reported that?
