The Real Obama And Jeremiah Wright
MATTHEW Yglesias finds the Real Obama:
Obama’s going to have a hard time explaining that I take to be the truth, namely that his relationship with Trinity has been a bit cynical from the beginning. After all, before Obama was a half-black guy running in a mostly white country he was a half-white guy running in a mostly black neighborhood. At that time, associating with a very large, influential, local church with black nationalist overtones was a clear political asset . . . . Since emerging onto a larger stage, it’s been the reverse and Obama’s consistently sought to distance himself from Wright, disinviting him from his campaign’s launch, analogizing him to a crazy uncle who you love but don’t listen to, etc.
Obam’as too slick to be caught to easily…

Obama claims to have never personally been aware of Wright speaking the kinds of anti-American, anti-White vitriol heard in the infamous videos.
But neoconservative reporter Jim Davis wrote an article last July placing Obama at the scene one such sermon by Wright:
http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2007/8/8/194812.shtml
The Relevant Excerpt:
“…he continues to attend a controversial Chicago church whose pastor routinely refers to “white arrogance” and “the United States of White America.”
In fact, Obama was in attendance at the church when these statements were made on July 22.”
Wright laced into America’s establishment, blaming the “white arrogance” of America’s Caucasian majority for the woes of the world, especially the oppression suffered by blacks. To underscore the point he refers to the country as the “United States of White America.” Many in the congregation, including Obama, nodded in apparent agreement as these statements were made.”
Has Obama been caught lying? Will the press investigate?

Greetings: It’s not over, however it’s important to know who Obama cavorted with prior to his meteoric rise as presidential candidate.
Let the electorate decide based on all the fantasy and facts. The climate is now ripe for a rhetorical and polemic crusader to swoon our electorate; similar to Nazi Germany in 1933. Hopefully we will make the correct choice and obviate the blunders of Chamberlein in 1938.
Respectfully, George Haas, Past Commander, Jewish War Veterans, Post 580, New Orleans, LA

I don’t understand how white americans expect black americans to have the same love for america as they do. The america that black americans have, love, and hold allegiance to is still the same one which they must hold accountable for the injustices that still exist today. I find it very convenient for ust to hold Pastor Wright to such criticism and not hold white america to the same kind of criticism. When a white person dresses in black face or calls black people the n word, black americans are supposed to forgive and move on. Maybe given this protocol, white america should forgive Wright’s statements and move on. America rarely ever wants to deal with its wrongs however we enjoy shedding light to the wrongs of others. I find this entire situation absolutely absurd and ludacrous.

I for one am offened as AJ should be. I’ve never been to a church that preached hate for America. Nor have I ever heard a preacher denounce any race. My preachers have always centered their message on GOD & JESUS, through faith we love & forgive. As a matter of fact, I can not imagine race ever being the subject of any sermon. Maybe AJ should look for another church & ask for forgiveness for being part of a racist congragation.

So you say, “stop making excuses to see him fail in the campaign” ?
No one is making excuses. No one has to make excuses. Anyone who is actually educated in the elections and the campaigns thus far can see that the he is theleast qualified person to be the President. He is a great motivtional speaker, he will tell us all what we want to hear. What I want to hear is how. We are always hearing, ” Yes We Can” okay, great! But how. Give me something that expalins how we can.
As far as the pastor stuff, is it really that big of a surprise. It just shows how people really think. I gaurantee that half of the peolpe voting for him are only voting for him because of his skin tone. That is what is sad. Ask the voters what he stands for, ask them how many debates they have watched, it would not surprise me if some did not even know how to spell his name. These types of voters do not care about the country, they don’t care what he stands for. They just want him because his skin is a little darker. I have nothing bad to say of any of the candidates. They are all human and they all have things they would like to keep hush, who doesn’t.

Enough already, lets get away from this racial double standard. As an African American I could care less about who Obama’s Pastor is. I have heard sermons by Rev Wright for the past 15 years and do not have a problem with it.
Obama is more than qualified to run the country, stop making excuses to see him fail in the campaign.
Stick to the issues, the economy, the illegal Iraq war, and the price of gasoline.
Rev. Wright is not anti-American, he is pro human rights, and pro social justice, nothing is wrong with that.
I have heard sermons all of my life that lifted and inspired blacks and all people who come from poor backgrounds. So, I for one am not in the least offended by Rev. Wright.

NO! lets not move on, american people need to know the kind of person we are electing to run this country. If Mr Obama has listen to this anti american pastor for 20 years some of it has to have sunk in. He has said in previous statements that pastor wright was his mentor. Do we need this kind of person in our government? absolutely not.

Enough already! Could we please move on to issues that really matter. I want to hear about the economy, Iraq and education, to name a few. Obama’s pastor is the least of my concerns.

THE AUDACITY OF HATE
Obama has walked the edge of a love/hate relationship with America his entire life. His private world, that of his mother and grandparents taught him love and tolerance. His public world, like that of all people of color and particularly black Americans, is one of disrespect and hate. White people disrepected him as most of them do of most blacks(not Michael Jordan) and blacks resent his “passing”, not literally, but practically.
And so his life evolves bay success academically and eventually politically. He marries a bright and successful woman. He joins a community church where he and his family flurish. But his wife grows angrier in private about her white world where she works and makes her living. Their minister stokes that hate, which the Obama’s can only support in church and at home with Michele’s rantings about race and bigotry.
Barak’s legislative world is, as he, half white and half black. He can understand a bit of both worlds. His wife and minister do not! He loves his wife and he loves his minister and thus the conflict with his trying to climb higher in a white world. His inability to calm his wife and his minister now puts him, his party and his people(blacks) in an untenable and unwinnable position. Having surpressed the conflict in his private life is now causing that conflict to be played out on a very publict stage.
