Get Bono To Retire: Mr G8 Must Go
THE OBJECTIVE of the petition:
To get Bono to retire from public life (so he’ll stop leading misguided counter-productive philanthropy efforts) ….and, simultaneously…. to make a huge donation to fight AIDS
The Pitch:
Bono’s philanthropy efforts are self-righteous, ineffective, & counter-productive.
The RED campaign has managed to spend $40 million more on marketing that it has raised from RED product sales, while sending consumers a dangerous message. Read more
Many involved in the global fight against AIDS worry that RED will make it harder to raise funds, and that the oversimplified & disempowered image of Africa that Bono perpetuates. , as exemplified in these incredibly condescending lyrics from the Band Aid Xmas song Bono helped create, obscures and undermines the assets African nations must focus on to defeat AIDS and poverty.
The grassroots leaders of the global fight against AIDS didn’t ask for Bono to be their frontman. Its time for Bono to step down. We’ll all pledge donations to the Global Fund, but no pledges are collected until Bono retires from public life. If he wants to moan bland melodies he’ll have to do it quietly in his bedroom. If he want to fight AIDS he can make a direct donation instead of buying a sweatshop GAP T-shirt. As the pledges grow, Bono will have to decide what matters more, fighting AIDS effectively, or him being the movement’s frontman.

JOHN!!! This is one of the most honest articles I have read on here actually.
And even though I am not a very well person I can see that you must be a fan.
Bono is a musical lyricy-type of thingy and has become a self-declared legendy-thingy.
Him and that Geldof one could have done a gig a week between them all for the past twenty years if they were sincere.
Money cannot help Africa anymore. Education can!
Educating people about sex and dispelling the myth that a virgin child can rid you of AIDS and hepatitis is the way forward.
Contraception is the way forward- or abstinence if you have a faith.
The people that the World fed twenty years ago has multiplied and multiplied.
Knowing that they have no food and water to sustain the growth.
Debts have been cancelled - but they have accumulated more debt coz there are more people and these people are causing more wars between tribes and countries - which means more wars and more debts.
Bono brings false hope to people. We have to get real now and stop thinking that there is a magic wand to wave this away!
Nothing hjas changed and nothing will change until we all stop breeding like fucking flies and using up resources that are rapidly running out.
WHAT IS BONO’s carbon footprint whilst he’s doing all this?
The marketing figures are absolutely fucking outrageous!
Kids at University could do this for him - and do it a lot fucking better!
