McCAIN’S call to Sarah Palin was just a joke:
Now that the election is over, bits and pieces of campaign secrets are starting to see the light of day. The most shocking of these so far: Governor Sarah Palin was not supposed to be Senator John McCain’s choice for running mate.
“The Palin phenomenon is actually the result of a practical joke gone haywire,” admitted Rick Davis, former McCain campaign manager. “John was a guest on the Morning Madness radio show on Phoenix’s KZZP, hosted by Fireball Frantic and Gene the Bean. When Frantic asked McCain which political figure was the least qualified to be his running mate, McCain mentioned an obscure governor from who was an ex-beauty queen. Frantic insisted McCain prove he was still young enough to be ‘with it’ and insisted he make that call to Alaska.”
“It was just a joke,” McCain recalls, “but she was so sincere and so excited, I didn’t have the heart to tell her I was just kidding. The hardest thing about it,” admits McCain, “was having to tell my real selection — Senator Joe Lieberman — that he was, well, not a chosen person when it came to being the veep.”

lol, great joke. Though i do belive McCain is stupid enough to have done this, well, I really dont think he would be that retarded, espesially with all his supporters telling him other wise. Also, the fact that this is a “Tabloid” website, i dont trust it. Also senetor leiborman was running for NY at the same time, even before Palin was chosen, so it doesn’t add up.

Now we are being punked. But since people were already groaning over the pick, my only complaint is that the bad joke went on too long and had time to put the President elect’s family in danger with the unfunny lies and sleaze hatred she stirred up.

Well, in my own opinion, I think it was cowardly of him. He was too afraid to get her hopes down, and also in my opinion, the president will have had to put someone’s hopes down at least once in the white house.the president will be depressing many people either with a new law that passed that said ‘ NO 22 YEAR OLD AND YOUNGER CAN PLACE A BET AT THE CASINO.’ People who do place bets will be mad and sad but maybe somehow it was best for the people and counrty Also, what kind of excuse is that? ” I didn’t have the heart to tell her I was kidding.” If you didn’t have the heart, then I am sorry, I don’t think you should be president.

Government polls are the least reliable of all - in my opinion. Folk who conduct the polls are paid by the government to do so, and are guided into the way to ask the questions to get the required results. Honestly has anyone who has had their privacy violated by the opinion poll phone calls, ever, ever told the truth? I certainly have never given my true opion to a faceless enquirer. I once told someone asking about my feelings on global warming that I was a self controlled arsonist and that the day the earth set on fire would be my greatest hour. Whooooosh - they had gone. Polls? total and absolute waste of money, something which only the impatient ones like to consider. Why not wait for the results and facts rather than spend hours and hours speculating about what MIGHT happen, knowing that it would be foolish to act upon the results of polls - they are totally and absolutely unreliable

I’m not buying this one sec, it all sounds like a bunch of lies to cover up his poor choice.
Besides, in the eventuality of this being true, am I the only one to think that it’s pretty scary for someone to run for presidency with at his side a person he chose out of… compassion? Instead of chosing someone capable for the position because he didn’t want to vex her? I’m sorry, but it seems to me like it only prooves further his inability to lead a country, especially in these times of crisis when tough decisions will need to be made. Both ways, he fails.
Just my two cents

that isn’t how he met Sarah and she was checked out. He wouldn’t have gotten the money to run or the support without Gov. Palin.
In a poll gov. Palin was given about 64% chance for 2008-
Huckabee 12%
romney 11%
Jindal 4%

McCain knew that he did not stand a snowflake in hell’s chance of getting the vote - with the black vote lurching so enthusiastically towards Obama - so he threw in the comedy card - Palin. This election, in my opinion, was a fore gone conclusion and McCain just went for the ride. I wonder how many of the ones who voted for Obama were aware of his policies? AND - I wonder if they looked into his family tree only to realise that he was not really black - just a product of a mixed race relationship. Obama projected the black image - - but then, to a black person, I suppose a half black president is better than a full white one - and quite honestly, given the options - regardless of colour, I think the best candidate won

Just hope they don’t return more of what they have had for the past 8 years next time to ruin it
*******************
Some might say that the past 8 years only happened because of a handful of votes from Florida, in which a relative had jurisdiction .
I seem to remember the counts and re-counts and to and fro-ing of various court actions and appeal cases resulting in the election taking about 3 or more weeks before we had a result.
It was therefore a pleasant surprise IMO that this election seemed to be a painless overnight coup.

Val,
He does have an onerous task ahead, and yes the chalice is poisoned.
But intelligence and a good team should sort it
Just hope they don’t return more of what they have had for the past 8 years next time to ruin it

I sincerely hope so, Obama is certainly more educated than some Presidents before him.
A lot will depend on the team he chooses bec ause he is taking up a poisoned
chalice which no one will envy,

Val,,
I think the gulliblity or naivete is the problem here (the polite term for thick) and so agree that its worrying he couldn’t check her out, or even TELL her.
Whether that was age related? I don’t think so, a lot of people in their 70’s are very active mentally and physically.
but I feel the US voters have made the right choice
November 9th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Considering McCain at 72 may not have had the stamina to see out a full term, never
mind two, can he really have been so stupid as to not ensure the Vice President would
have the political nous to take over?
November 9th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
The funniest thing is … I believe this. So McCain was just too nice to be president.
