Party Town

by | 24th, September 2004

‘THE choices for any reader looking for a break from the hostage crisis are slim.

‘We’re full of hot air’

The Independent gives over lots of pages to the Liberal Democrat’s conference, which has just finished bathing Bournemouth in a grey light.

But, aside from much back slapping at the party’s questioning of the validity of the invasion of Iraq, the most interesting thing seems to have been the rolled-up inflatable doll security staff found in one woman’s bag.

Chuck in an apple, a teenage lover and a homo-erotic video, and the LibDems may well achieve their ambition and mount a serious challenge to the Tories.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph considers the Conservatives to be the news of the day, and their plan to “slash inheritance tax”.

A tax on dying has always seemed less than fair to many. But you can’t take it with you…

And now the Tories intend to unveil their plans for it and for the “economic and moral case” for other tax cuts at their party conference, also in Bournemouth.

What the Dorset town has down to deserve first the LibDems and then the Tories makes us wonder.

Although the seaside resort’s reputation as “Europe’s inflatable capital” may or may not have something to do with it…’
