Yes, folks, as the Telegraph says on its front page, a study of the picture of Margaret Thatcher painted by Michael Noakes in 1990 and commissioned by the Grocers’ Company is for sale.

The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, but is described as a ”quiet Tory” (that you, IDS?) wants to sell the work and give the monies to the hard-up Tory party.

And it could earn as much as £100,000, a handy sum to a party which was £2.5m in the red last year.

And it could earn even more – if the lot is equipped with a set of darts and a large marker pen…’
