Two Wongs

‘CAN it really be a full year since we strapped on our gangsta chic and hot-footed it along to Patti and Andy Wong’s to celebrate the year of the monkey?

Lady Victoria Hervey gets on down

Well, it must be since we‘ve just received our invites to this year’s shindig.

“Patti and Andy Wong cordially invite Anorak to break fortune cookies with them at London’s Great Eastern Hotel to mark the coming of the Year of the Rooster,” says the gilded card that may or may not be lost in the post.

So, in the company of our dear friends at Hello!, we happened along.

And this was a cock-a-doodle-do of a do with guests greeted by circus stilt-walkers, contortionists and acrobats.

The theme was A Night Of Hedonism In 1920 Shanghai and that meant lots of flapper-style outfits, men in tuxedos and no small sprinkling of stardust.

Look over there! It’s Sean Lennon wearing his dad’s little round glasses and he’s in the company of his old squeeze, Elizabeth Jagger, the gawky girl who proves that you can still make it as a model even with famous parents.

And there’s Tamara Beckwith, without whom no party with a free bar would be complete.

Who can fail to look at dear Tamara in her black dress embroidered with a Chinese motif and not experience a strange and sudden yearning for painted boiled eggs?

And there’s Caprice, the model with the wind-tunnel looks. And why if it is not – and it is! –Lady Victoria Hervey, “who is just back from LA where she spent a year pursuing a Hollywood film career.”

Sadly, that wily old career seems to have escaped her. But at least she still knows how to wear a dress – this one’s pink and green – and have her photo taken.

What a terrific party! And we can’t wait for next year’s. Roll on 2006. Roll on the Year of the Potted Shrimp…’
