Clapham In Irons

‘FROM foxes to badges, and time to remember Ron Davies, the man whose political career was damaged by a “moment of madness” on Clapham Common.

A friend to badgers everywhere

On that fateful night, the then Welsh Secretary’s life became forever entwined with that of Ronald Fearon, a Rastafarian, whom Davies claimed mugged him at knifepoint.

Fearon was charged with robbery, but the case was dropped – insufficient evidence, badgers unwilling or too scared to give evidence and so forth.

Now for an update, and the Times’s news that Fearon, a career criminal with a history of armed violence and sexual assaults, has been imprisoned for life for his part in a crime.

Which is a blow for justice. And good news for any decent badger enthusiast who wants to take a moonlit stroll across an area known to be a meeting place for gay men without fear of being accosted by a large man clutching a dangerous weapon…
