‘AFTERNOONS are not what they once were now Richard Whiteley’s been beaten by the clock.

B is for Boyzone

The unemployed, postal workers, residents in rest homes, people in secure units and staff at Anorak are in deep mourning.

But when the face and garish jacket of Countdown died – he had had PIANO MENU (a nine letter word!) – we vowed to fill the void in our working day by doing something useful.

So we watched A Place In The Sun and videos of Nigella Lawson’s new chatshow (it clashes with the afternoon edition of Neighbours).

And in the ad breaks we called out friends at Collins, who gave us a new prize for the caption contest.

Since the pop single is a dying art form, now is a good time to read its obituary.

The writer of this week’s winning caption will receive a copy of Collins Complete UK Hit Singles 1952 – 2005.

That sounds good – and a whole lot better than Geri Halliwell…”

So get entering. (It’s not a dictionary, whatever the caption blurb says.)

But even with such largess, we can only carry on and thrive with your help. Tell everyone to read the site.

Get your company to post the copy on their intranets.

Petition your portal to put Anorak on its news homepage.

Hire us as writers to give your newspaper, your magazine, your site some pep.

All of our fine work is available for syndication. And we are available for hire.
