DO we include the adverts or not?
Without the features for alcopops, package weddings abroad, bottled water, anti-ageing creams and sickly sweet condensed milk, the wedding of Cheryl Tweedy and her footballer takes up 28 of OK!’s glossy pages. With the adverts there are 48 pages.
And looking at the products linked with the singers and her footballer’s big day, we decide to keep them in. Condensed milk is as much a part of the big day as the lofty wedding cake.
And so to the flowers – the viburnum stems, hydrangeas, roses, lilies and clipped green boxwood. Look familiar? They might do because the floral display is the work of Simon Lycett, who provided the blooms for Victoria and David Beckham’s big day.
And while we look through the pots for a bit of leftover cake and dove feather from that great day seven years ago, wedding planner Katie Marsh tells us how “lovely” her clients are. And, in case you are wondering, Katie (cards by the font) is a “pro” at planning a wedding by text message.
Groom Ashley Cole soon arrives for photographs by OK!. He’s dressed in a Roberto Cavalli shiny beige suit. With his cream silk shirt and cream and tan leather shoes, Ashley looks like the human version of a latte.
The ushers wear clothes by Richard James (ask for him by name).
As OK! name checks the staff behind the do, we see the bride arrive in a horse-drawn-coach followed by a silver S Class Mercedes (with optional extras).
Cheryl emerges from her Victorian-style ivory carriage in an equally ivory dress by the aforesaid unisex outfitter Roberto Cavalli.
Oh, if you’ve seen it before, it is the same dress Victoria Beckham wore to Sit Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara ball last year. But this is, as Cheryl says, just a crazy coincidence.
On Cheryl’s head she wears a diamond Garrard tiara and a pair of Garrard diamond studs in her ears. Cheryl moves up the aisle, followed by bridesmaids in Roberto Cavalli dresses.
A few songs by the gospel choir (see listings section for details), some vows and it was time to exchange the rings designed by Stephen Webster.
It was then back to the reception for food by Rhubarb Food Design. And to hear David Beckham’s mother Sandra say: “Of course David and Victoria really wished they could be here, but they’re on holiday.”
What a shame. But some things just cannot be avoided. Such are the pressures of being megastars, holidays must be taken.
But at least the Beckhams can recapture the mood and spirit of the event by replaying a video of their own wedding while leafing through a copy of OK! and crying…
