Government Spends £114,569,056 On DTI Consultants – Blame Darling Of The Treasury

Dizzy looks at Government spending:

Spending on management consultants by Government always gets my back up. This is mainly because the figures always make me cry. However, the DTI (as it was formally known) did well I thought in that it only managed to spend £1,223,423 on management consultants in 2003-04 which really is bugger all when you think of it.

I’m trying to ignore the fact though that the spend for 2006-07 is £40,188,012. After all, they’re actually down on the previous year when it was £48,571,422. Just for reference, the total spend by management consultants at the DTI since 2003 is £114,569,056.

Don’t get angry though, it’s not their fault. They;ve blamed Gordon Brown (or is it Alastair Darling?) saying that they follow procurement practices laid down by HM Treasury to achieve value for money.”

What’s interesting here is that usually, when the spend on something shoots up dramatically they offer an excuse to justify it. This time they havn’t, they’ve just blamed it on the Treasury. Would they have done that a week ago though? Hmmmm
