Life With A Price Gun In America: Shoppers Step Over Stabbed Woman

shoppers.jpgAMERICANS are supposed to be a friendly bunch, always saying hi to neighbors and greeting each other with a friendly “how are you?”

So it came as a bit of a shock to residents of Wichita, Kansas, that as a 27-year-old woman lay bleeding to death on the floor of a convenience store on Saturday no one came to her aid.

In fact, shoppers were so unconcerned with the woman that four of them stepped over her in order to pay at the cash register. And a fifth, stepped over her four times as she went about her shopping, pausing a fifth time to take a photograph with her cell phone.

During that time, the victim LaShanda Calloway struggled to her feet three times before collapsing on the floor.

When shoppers finally called 911, a good two minutes after the stabbing took place, Calloway was rushed to hospital. She died later of her wounds.

Wichita police spokesman Gordon Bassham described the two-minute pause, which was captured on the store’s CCTV camera, as “one of the most disgusting examples of disregard for life I’ve ever seen,”

“It is a very, very tragic video to watch,” Bassham told the Wichita Eagle. “It was revolting to see this lack of humanity.”

Calloway was stabbed once in the stomach after an altercation with a 19-year-old girl in the store. Two people have since been arrested, including Cherish M. McCullough, 19, who was charged with first-degree murder.

Cops have refused to release the store video saying that it is part of their investigation.

But the cell phone camera photographs of Calloway lying on the convenience store floor have started to appear on the Internet. Needless to say, Calloway’s relatives (see video) are not pleased.
