Madeleine McCann: Liz Hunt Wonders, The Leaked File And The End

MADDIE WATCH – Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY EXPRESS (front page): “MADELEINE – Anger as Portuguese police file is linked”

Yesterday, Madeleine McCann returned to the Express’s front page, a place she once used to own. She’s back today. What price she will be back many times yet?

KATE and Gerry McCann faced further anguish last night after learning that the final police report into their daughter’s disappearance had been leaked to a Portuguese newspaper.

The Express feels their pain and their hurt. And if its readers want to know how bad it is, well, read on:

According to the document – which purports to be a summary of the final police report handed to prosecutors at the beginning of the month – detectives worked on three main theories about what had happened to Madeleine after she disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on May 3 last year.

The report purports. It’s not fact. So should the Express repeat it? Well:

While some of the information was followed up, much was discounted as useless. Detailing how the police came to declare Kate and Gerry official suspects in the investigation, the report said it followed forensic tests and searches with British-based sniffer dogs.

Let’s reconsider that useless evidence on more time.

DAILY TELEGRAPH (front page): “LIZ HUNT – WHY THE McCANNS MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO MOVE ON”

Why? Is it because Liz Hunt will keep talking about how they cope with not knowing what happened to their missing daughter in the press?

THE GUARDIAN (front page): “How did the most high profile crime in modern times reach such an end?”

It hasn’t ended…
